They had some audio electronics company measure the accoustics of the dogs and produce a filter circuit to get the best possible sound out of them.

It's actually making fun of kitsch in a way; the designers aren't taking it seriously. An example of an appropriate setting would be in a bachelor pad or a hip boutique hotel.
