- Trebis, on 05/25/2009, -2/+35Step 1) Ctrl F
Step 2) Search "iPhone killer"
Step 3) No hits? Dugg. - TheWilder, on 05/25/2009, -3/+31The Palm Pre seriously looks like a contender to go up against the iPhone. It's been said so many times about a lot of phones, but I'm always impressed whenever I read new information on the Pre. It's going to be an interesting battle come WWDC.
- ddogfilm, on 05/25/2009, -0/+13this phone looks like it can compete with the g1
- ookamiwarrior, on 05/25/2009, -3/+13Only 8GB! And no expandable storage ... that has got to be its biggest flaw. I'm just squeezing into the 32GB on my iPod touch.
I'm still excited for the Pre though. - MOJIRA, on 05/25/2009, -1/+11No way we can make some PROFIT off those steps?
- TylerJones32, on 05/25/2009, -0/+8It's about time Sprint got something decent.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -3/+10Why does everyone think sprint is SO bad? they crushed ATT and Verizon in mobile broadband speeds. I have had sprint for 10 years and I love their service. I barely EVER drop calls and I pay $99 a month for unlimited EVERYTHING. A few years ago their customer service was pretty bad but that has gotten MUCH MUCH better even though they can be inconsistent at times. I would recommend sprint to anyone.
btw, my girlfriend has ATT (iPhone). She loves her phone, but she hates her service. she is always dropping calls and her internet cuts out a lot. - tempysmurf, on 05/25/2009, -0/+7pre's prerelease guide.
- decay, on 05/25/2009, -1/+7Now you get to be on Sprint and have a cool phone!
- johnwastaken, on 05/25/2009, -0/+5Jay Leno?!? Is that you?!?
- Tyrghast, on 05/25/2009, -0/+5It looks awesome but like the iPhone, early adopters will most likely be screwed in a few months.
- Amorn, on 05/25/2009, -1/+5This guide is to Pre-pare you for the Pre
- bigredgpk, on 05/25/2009, -0/+4I'm a Palm Fanboy and I admit that 8gb is small, esp seeing how the new iPhone is going to be 16gb/32gb and they are setting the bar for all smart phones these days. But I don't think that 8gb is going to be a bad thing. I have my iPod for music, and this is a phone with music capabilities. I'll be pissed if they release a 16gb version 91 days after the release though.
- thefourcast, on 05/25/2009, -4/+8The biggest thing that excites me about the Palm Pre is the fact that I don't have to be on AT&T to have a cool phone. Also the wireless charging block is awesome.
- heyimfromreddit, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4My thoughts Pre-cisely.
- FrederikNS, on 05/25/2009, -1/+5Well it isn't released yet, so that might be why you don't know anyone who has one yet
- TheWorm, on 05/25/2009, -1/+4Palm really needs to start advertising and hyping this phone outside of the geek community.
- barc0001, on 05/25/2009, -2/+5And what phone does that currently? Certainly not the iPhone. No Divx/xVid support there at all.
- Innuendo24, on 05/25/2009, -1/+4Why is this phone making me chose a bad network for a phone I badly want? Why do you do that to me palm?
- xGORDOx, on 05/25/2009, -0/+3I agree 100%
I have never had a "dropped call" and when Verizon was advertising using that term, I seriously had no idea what they were talking about. Now, of course, I know what they mean, but a couple years ago, I was like "Huh?"
I was hoping Sprint would come out with something good and this seems to be it, the reason I don't have an iPhone at this point is that it's on AT&T. - diggmeordie, on 05/25/2009, -1/+4Great, another phone that doesn't have Java support. The only reason I bought the iphone 3g was to surf web pages at work and listen to internet radio. Looks like I'll be sticking with the iphone because at least it can hold more media and has a better screen.
- Corinthos, on 05/25/2009, -0/+2Thing is besides the internet no one I've ever talked to has heard of this phone. Plus I say palm and they are like eww because most have dealt with a centro or the pre windows mobile treos. I was holding out to get one and got tired of waiting on them to release detailson launch and just got a g1. Plus I didn't really care to have sprint as a carrier anyways since they don't work downtown here for some reason.
I'll wait until my year contract is up and if its as good as they say it is then I'll get one then after bugs are worked out. - HAL90000, on 05/25/2009, -0/+2How punny of you.
- alloystudios, on 05/26/2009, -1/+3I'm on the list to get one at Best Buy. The OS looks slick and it seems like apps are easy to build. And it has basic stuff that the iPhone doesn't, like VIDEO (c'mon Apple, that's like 1999 technology), CUT & PASTE (also basic technology), PHYSICAL KEYBOARD (try writin a text with less than immaculately clean fingers), FLASH (seriously, how much does a little LED cost?). And they came out with MMS like it was actually a groundbreaking feature.
The iPhone is FAR from perfect, but it's the best that's out today. Hopefully the Pre will change that. - CeeAyy, on 05/25/2009, -1/+3Baryn... here's the funny thing... the reason why the screen is smaller is not the relevant part, it's that the screen is smaller.
The poster before you made a relatively neutral and fair comment and you call him a fool? You may just qualify as the first palm pre fanboi that I have seen so far. - Macintoshreader, on 05/26/2009, -0/+28 GB is NOTHING when it comes to video. 8 GB is about 8 hours of video—if encoded using H.264 @1.5 mbps with 128 kbps AAC audio. I had 45 videos on my 8 GB iPod nano and they used a whopping 1.1 GB of storage capacity, so now I only have 14 and it uses 800 MB.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -2/+3Agree with Rob. I would seriously consider getting a Pre if I were buying a new phone because of the innovative interface and I like the slide out keyboard, but the development support looks weak at this point. However, that could change as the Pre becomes more popular.
- 3vno, on 05/25/2009, -1/+2no waiting in line. I went to best buy, and there was 3 people in front of me on the waiting list. The guy said i can come in any time that day and pick it up.
- P5ycHo, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1I love it how apple started this phone war. Lot's of new devices, new software, better speeds. Great !!!
More choice for the consumer. - damnshoes, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Can I buy the phone without the damn data plan? I just want a phone with built-in wireless capability to surf the internet...I think that how it works... right?
- SteveMax, on 05/25/2009, -0/+1Gizmodo can.
- junskey, on 05/25/2009, -2/+3your computer does that
- mthoringen, on 05/25/2009, -4/+5The physical keyboard doesn't come for free; something else has to give. Looks like it's the screen size. At 3.1" vs. 3.5", it has 20% less area than the iPhone. That is significant.
For people doing a lot of text input, this will be worth it. For people mostly using web/maps and viewing photos and video, it won't be. - DipDog3, on 05/25/2009, -1/+2Is there is a interactive version of the Palm Pre online?
I want to test it out but I don't know anyone who has one. - Nintendesert, on 05/25/2009, -1/+2I'm going to get one when they hit Verizon. I really don't want to go to Sprint.
- amorpheus, on 05/25/2009, -1/+28GB is okay-ish, lots of music but the iPhone is bound to bump capacity up a notch soon, which will make it look small in comparison.
- xGORDOx, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Macintoshreader
Then that's even better news! - ChildeRoland420, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1$70 is a lot of money for a charger. Especially considering that you have to use the AC charger that came with the phone to even plug the touchstone in.
- HAL90000, on 05/25/2009, -2/+3There will undoubtedly be another release later this year that offers more memory.
- xGORDOx, on 05/25/2009, -3/+4I'll sacrifice the .4% for an actual qwerty keyboard.
- ookamiwarrior, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1I'm looking for the all in one device, so I no longer have to carry a Tom Tom, iPod touch and a ***** LG Rumour.
- inactive, on 05/25/2009, -1/+2Sprint has a limited coverage area compared to some other carriers.
- shibainu, on 05/25/2009, -0/+1http://mypre.com/no-sero-plan-for-palm-pre-say-spr ...
- BenBenMan, on 05/25/2009, -0/+1However now that you've posted that, if you go Ctrl-F and search for "iPhone Killer", it finds something. Does that mean it's still dugg?
- lostngone, on 05/25/2009, -3/+4There can be only one.
- muteSirens, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1dugg for Micheal Bluth as one of the contacts
- ChildeRoland420, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Why would you need more than 8 hours of video on your PHONE?
- xGORDOx, on 05/25/2009, -1/+1Not yet they don't, I want one at launch!
- zdwade, on 05/26/2009, -1/+1***** ATT
- EndouOuto, on 05/26/2009, -2/+24 will be plenty
