That spooked the hell out of my mother. She told me to put it away and never open it again. I asked if she wasn't curious to find out how it worked, and she said we shouldn't "mess" with stuff like that. Even after I explained her how it worked she was uncomfortable with it.
Of course, the fact that it was made to look mystical helped, but it still was the most obvious; and scary; example - my own mother! - ever of how dangerous religion really is. It instills fear onto people and stops critical thinking. If this story is true, she just started up media player with out actually selecting the new media to be played, it would load up the last file played in it, and of course she would probably click play, and away she would go with whatever had been played before. And since she probably doesn't know that much about computers(especially if she was a little nutty and thought the cd was possessed) she's going to think it's the cd she just put in that's playing. And the way her son sounds, I doubt he was sitting right there guiding her through it, so this story is very plausible.
