- TKn00b, on 10/10/2007, -3/+130ERROR: Burn Failed... Try again?
MOTHHHERRRRRRRRRRR F******CCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKERRRRRRRRRRR! - Renton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+50Of course, 500GB is the capacity of the hard drive, not the blu-ray disc. I know it shouldn't have to be stated, but there was an article a few months ago about a blu-ray DVR with a 1TB hard drive, and people were thinking it was the blu-ray disc. The title of this story is also somewhat misleading.
- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30The discs aren't 500GB, the hard drive on the recorder is. The discs are 50GB. The title and the article are a bit misleading.
- 11Heather, on 10/10/2007, -8/+30500GB from the same media? Can't wait for these high end recorders to drop in price. Going to wait it out.
- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18The discs aren't 500GB, the hard drive on the recorder is. The discs are 50GB.
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17If people are going to buy $4000 plasma screen TVs, then why not buy something just as useful that would compliment it all? As for me, I'll stick to my 23 inch CRT from before i was born.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Those discs will become very expensive coasters.
- JJCDAD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Oh come on! That made me laugh.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14It's called "stumping" when someone doesn't have limbs, silly.
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12No it won't. The manufacturers will decrease the price directly relative to the pace the early adopters set. DVD was far more expensive for much longer than HD-DVD or Blu Ray.
At some point, they have to lower their price. If they notice an upswing in sales anywhere along the way, they'll take note and find ways to deliver at that price. In a competitive market, consumers set the quality standards and the prices, not manufacturers. - CoronaVegas, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13So will this be in the 2.00 update for the PS3?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Thats the thing , if everyone waits it out then the tech will fail :(
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+23Think of all the porn...... hmmmmmm my entire amputee midget fisting porn collection all on one disc.
- modix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's a recorder, not a player; RTFA.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6tell that to the dreamcast
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/24/2007, -1/+5OOOOOOooooooOOOOO I'll answer: no
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8$1200 of that is probably a licensing fee for future copyright violations.
(a la Zune or CD/DVD burners in Canada) - shampoovta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Don't care about the battle between Blue Ray or HD (Blue Ray is a cooler name that's all I know). However The PS3 is Blue Ray and we have a plan to get that this year. Now I see this which is way out of our price range but it looks grate! I still don't care ether way it just so happens Sony is making products I like and they use Blue Ray.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -4/+7Other than mindless bashing of Sony, does your comment make any sense?
- wafflez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3aww why is he getting dugg down?
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3there also 25gigs
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3for sure, not worth getting it now. But if they could jack up the speed a little these would be awsome in the future.
- theprez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Huh? Everything over 50GB in the article is referring to the hard drives in the recorders. There is no such as thing as 50GB+ discs anytime soon.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Their drivers should go see a doctor about that.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, insulting someone really shows us what you're like.
- ObeseSnake, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Weren't plain old DVD recorders over $1000 when they first came out?
- dubbleenerd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I don't think there is 500gb of that stuff in the world :P
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I was at Fry's the other day - their price for one single burnable 50GB Blu-Ray disc was $39.99. For one. That's a lot o' storage, granted, but damn, that's one hell of an expensive coaster if your burn fails.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What the ***** are you talking about. Where was HDMI cables EVER brought up?
- tmcdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Consumers are just not ready to make either HD-DVD or BLUE-RAY a "standard" at current 9/2007 prices... also worth noting: BLUE-RAY has a 2:1 ratio of price dis-advantage, however a 2:1 capacity advantage..
Oh well, both are gonna get BURNED and I don't believe either will be a standard if the war goes on for another whole year.... something bigger and better will CERTAINLY come along. - Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3...UH DUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH!!!!
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It does....on DVD's
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11755 buys you like 5 x 500gb hard drive you could connect to your router and put 2.5 tb on your home network.
Who the hell is looking to spend 2 grand on portable media? for ***** sake if I want to carry 50gb in my pocket, Ill make a folder on my ipod and throw it in there. - rcausgrove, on 10/10/2007, -8/+9I bet their drivers are full of root kits.
- morphie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Read the article before trolling like this.
- sephiroth4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1whaaa?
- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You'd think so, and I wasn't even going to post it, but apparently most people are assuming that the discs are that big.
Go figure. - galore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What is this for, officially? To legally (?) record open HD signals?
Who pays $1755 to be able to record a lame TV show? - morphie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ever used a HDMI or DVI cable which was longer than 2 meters?
Now you know why gold-plated is better. - CoronaVegas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am not a "Fanboy" or a dumbass. I am HUMAN, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!
- strangePanda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1nice, if it gets cheaper i will sure be getting one of these bad boys
- culbeda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why is the submitter so excited about the inclusion of a 500 GB HD in a $1755 recorder? For that amount of scratch, I want at least 1 TB!
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Uh, just buy a 500gb harddrive. its under 200 bucks and will last longer than a flimsy blu-ray disc. And its a 50gb disc, not 500gb disc RTFA...
For the price of 10 of these discs and the recorder, you could just buy the damn 500gb drive.
Oh, and its compatible with any computer or OS and doesnt require an encrypted connection to your tv or monitor. - culbeda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"my entire amputee midget fisting porn collection all on one disc"
1 disc!?! Light-weight! - birkbott, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2To Sony and those who are excited about the gold plated hdmi. It doesn't matter! It's a DIGITAL signal. It either works or it doesn't. The picture will look just as good with a $5 hdmi cable from amazon than with a $75 gold-plated monster cable. Do usb devices transfer better with gold plating? No, they don't, so how would gold hdmi transfer the digital information better?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I got's to get me HDMI gold-plated YAL!
- SnapETom, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Forget this crap. Sony needs to concentrate on making Blu-Ray players affordable if they're going to beat HDDVD.
- bobak2000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Other than the 51Gb HDDVDs. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/09/11/hd_dvd_51gb_approved/
- diggdogdang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+050gb discs
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1i bet it burns at 16x.
