- invasian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good article!!
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PLAIN toothpaste does work well. The white stuff. You do need to clean from inside out,)or visa versa, and never in a circle. rinse and dry the same way. NO HAIRDRYER... Cotton T shirt, just like for your car.
It said basic, and it was, but they did leave out some important things, when you figure that anyone who NEEDED this basic how to, also needs to know HOW to do it right.....
Nay
Cyborg - regeya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tend to stick with Brasso, Pledge, and soft cloths.
Also, being careful so you don't have to mess with it helps. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Better idea... tell the *AA to go screw itself, and the second you open your cd / dvd... make an ISO image of it, AND burn a backup.
- ufoq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing mentioned that in fact the most delicate is the upper side of the disc, when you scratch it from the top, the data is lost....
- derblase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maxell makes a kit for 12 bucks at target and you get about 100 uses out of it. It works. You might have to do it 3 or 4 times but it works.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apparently, I'm retarded, musicgenious.
- turbopro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dude. just use armor all, not penile lube.
- NickDanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hands down, the best emergency cleaner is the wood cleaner, Pledge. just spray it on, wait a second, then wipe it off.
- acidzebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the 'great article' can be summarised by 'polish with toothpaste'. Lame.
2 words & an url:
unstoppable copier
http://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.html
That'll save your data. - J_Omega, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EAC.... and wait. ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ )
My test junk-CD (Metallica's "Ride the Lightning") I ran steel wool over a bunch of times. Nothing, normal CD player or PC drive, plays it properly. EAC took something like 45 mins to extract one 5-min song from it, but it sounds fine! (as fine as anything Metallica can sound.)
EAC rip - burn - done. - supyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pretty bad article. didnt go into detail about how to wipe (what direction) and didn't seem to test it themselves.
http://supyo.com/home/projects/scratch_rumors/cd_scratches.htm - Njall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Missed an extremely basic test... see if you can look through a scratch and see light on the other side. If you can, the CD is ruined. Recover as much of the CD as you can and, assuming it's NOT copyrighted material, throw it away. If it is copyrighted, as for example a commercial music CD might be, save the CD as proof that you have fair use rights to copies of the songs.
Otherwise this still does not deserve a DIGG. Sorry. - toyotaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0brighto works, but this has been dugg before and didn't make front page, so no digg.
- n3xu5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I want to sue the RIAA becuase I have to constantly replace their crappy vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes, cds, laserdiscs, vhs....
- Kissitfatty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah so the upperside of the disk is gone on my cds.... can i repair them?..... just joking thats why we have bt!! and put all your cds in LOOSELESS FORMAT on an external hd.
- MonkeyFCoconut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dude.. as soon as I read "vaseline" I was like.. no digg. If you want vaseline inside your drives.. go for it. Personally I have developed a system to restore any CD back to readability, and it looks better than disks from disk doctor. Disk Doctor is a joke; well, I guess it's good enough for people that don't know any better.
- AnimeRules15421, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I know a(n) easyer way you go to a profesinal and pay him to do it.
- rooke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow. Talk about a very basic article on CD restoration. They also fail to mention to make a copy if you have to put toothpaste/brasso/Vaseline/oil/etc on it to get it to read.
I've never tried toothpaste, but I would think the dyes/graininess would be worse than Vaseline or a clearer oil on the surface.
Did anyone else get lost with the "silver metallic, plastic side" explanation he gave even knowing what was being talked about? - matx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2cd? what is this so called cd?
- ZigZags, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1if all else fails, they make awesome coasters
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Lamest front page story ever. How is this news? If I'm unfortunate enough to have a scratched CD, I can look on Google to fix it. Besides, I've known how to do this since I was a fetus, even before CDs were around!
- UnKnownViper27, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1JUST USE A SKIP DOCTOR.... damn its the oldest trick since 2000.
http://www.digitalinnovations.com/ - nerdherder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0durr, kinda no brainer stuff isnt it?
- sfslim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Again I have to ask... what is a "CD"?
- halikar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ah, the sweet sound of the internet nazi, yes musicgenius? Since I am apparently retarded by your definition of things, I felt the need to report your reply as a flame as well. Such is life I suppose.
- n3xu5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1CDs worst medium ever.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Wow... people still own CD's? How 1985....
- steviefungi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0lame
- musicgenius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0This is incredibly lame and I reported it as such. Anyone using digg already knows this and if they don't then they are retarded. NO DIGG!!!!!
Was also gonna give a link to skip doctor (which I use and recommend) but I see viper27 beat me to it. : )
Let's try to put actual news here OK noobs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Well no *****. I learned this when I was like 7. No digg.

What is Digg?
