- stoanhart, on 04/28/2009, -7/+62Man, ATI is kicking ass and taking names lately. Plus, they are hugely supportive of Open Source these days. My nVidia buying days are over.
- LordSkywalker, on 04/28/2009, -0/+47Throw that junk away man, it's an antique.
- MScrip, on 04/28/2009, -2/+43Silkscreens add about 3 FPS
- Frixionburne, on 04/28/2009, -3/+44I'm quite happy that my ATI obsession has payed off...
Plus, ATI has WAY cooler silkscreens on their cards. - waver01, on 04/28/2009, -1/+39I love their new bang for buck strategy. Sure as hell beats nvidia's $650 GTX 280 strategy.
- DroidBlender, on 04/28/2009, -1/+35$100 is a steal! Tom's Hardware ran a few benchmarks, if you're interested:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-4770 ... - CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+23Wow, and I wasn't even in the market for a graphics card.
- bllambert, on 04/28/2009, -0/+23The 4800 series cards are enormous, and require 2 power cables. The HD4770 is comparable to the 4830, but a lot shorter, and only needs a single cable. These should sell well for people with stock power supplys and retail PC cases. Kick ass gaming for all.
- anexanhume, on 04/28/2009, -0/+19Not necessary with openCL
- disrupter, on 04/28/2009, -4/+22In before NVIDIA fanboys
- richgustavson, on 04/28/2009, -3/+19nVidia should say ***** it, we're using GDDR6.
- fuzzynyanko, on 04/28/2009, -1/+17$650... more than how much an entire major upgrade costed for me (motherboard/cpu/RAM/GPU)
- Jeepinator, on 04/28/2009, -4/+20Now why would one buy a performance ATI card to run Ubuntu? I guess you can dual boot, but these hi-po cards are made for Windows.
- hawkspur, on 04/28/2009, -0/+14All to make you get 10 more FPS at high res.
- acdcfanbill, on 04/28/2009, -0/+13My digital media is write-protected
Every file inspected, no viruses detected - waver01, on 04/28/2009, -0/+12At launch. But when the HD4800 cards launched it was reduced by $200 to $450 to stay competitive.
- scuba7183, on 04/28/2009, -0/+12Your laptop is a month old? Well that's great
If you could use a nice, heavy paperweight - noboot, on 04/28/2009, -0/+11Adblock is your friend.
- highgeere, on 04/28/2009, -0/+10I can't speak for the other 48xx cards, but my 4830 also only needs a single power cable(comes with a 4 to 6-pin molex cable). It is a big-ass card, though.
- richgustavson, on 04/28/2009, -1/+11For those who didn't get the joke: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/33930
- jgtg32a, on 04/28/2009, -0/+10RTFA
- Sedako, on 04/28/2009, -0/+8I'm very happy with my 4870, and I'm glad ATI remains fiercely competitive on the GPU front. A $100 video card at this performance bracket is truly proof that competition in business is important for consumers. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Larrabee finally shows up.
- anexanhume, on 04/28/2009, -1/+9Yes, on high details 1680x1050 30+ fps.
And oh, um, haha - getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -2/+10Solitaire?
- Nintendesert, on 04/28/2009, -0/+84850 only requires one as well.
- angelgabe, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7Same here, my 4850 wasn't small by any stretch but it only required one 6-pin connection. Plus it didn't require the second slot for the cooler like the comparable nvidia 9800GTX+ does. I ended up trading my HD4850 for my friend's 9800GTX+ cause his stock PC case was too small for the cooler. Performance differences were negligible. I'd prefer the nvidia card in my machine ONLY because the dual slot cooler keeps the inside of my PC case a few degrees cooler. FYI the 9800GTX+ also requires only one 6-pin connector.
- jordn, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7naturally!
http://en.expreview.com/2009/04/28/first-look-at-r ... - Jektal, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7ATI is the old sexy, too, they're just bringing it back.
- Slizzo, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7All of the 4 series has the capability to output HDMI. Most cards come with the DVI-HDMI (which DOES output sound) adapter, and some cards come with a dedicated HDMI port.
- bllambert, on 04/28/2009, -0/+6My bad. I got the 4870 (it was ~$120 at newegg a month ago), and assumed the others required the same power, as they were the same size and based on the same design. That monster barley fit into my Antec P182...and it is the size of a Chinese compact car.
- Rassa, on 04/28/2009, -1/+7I'm not loyal when it comes to CPU parts. I go with the best bang for the buck. ATI has done a great job in this department in the last 6-8 months. I still today am shocked how well my 4870 performs for the price I paid for it.
- Warom, on 04/28/2009, -1/+7Random Fact No.154:
The technology behind Go Faster Stripes has been effectively used to increase graphics cards in the form of silkscreens, not only that, but the technology have been improved, resulting in even more effective Go Faster Stripes. Just another way that the computer industry has helped make the world a better place. - bochiman, on 04/28/2009, -4/+10This is the future in the present
- subxero37, on 04/28/2009, -1/+7@evisr8r: Are you serious? I've installed the Catalyst drivers on multiple (Windows) PCs without any problems, regardless of my GPU model. (I have a Radeon 3870 in one machine, a Radeon 9800 Pro in another, and have reformatted several machines with Radeons in them.)
- dbixler, on 04/28/2009, -1/+7Current pricing on newegg for the 4770 and 4850, after rebate, is almost identical. Given that, I'd probably go with the 4850. There's a card based on the 4850 by Sapphire that's $99.00 after rebate. Faster graphics, same price, the 4770 loses. Granted, the 4770 does use less power, but if you take that out, the 4770 loses (imo).
I'm revising this. Newegg has an additional $10.00 off of that Sapphire card, making the 4850 only $89.99. Brb, gotta press the "BUY NOW" button ;). - inactive, on 04/28/2009, -2/+8we live in a time right now where $400 can build you a whole gaming tower that can play crysis at 1080p with 30+fps. fun times for us hobbiests- because it wasnt 4 years ago it would take $1300 just to get to play the latest games....
- N0DIGGITY, on 04/28/2009, -0/+6exactly. Launch price was $650 with overclocked versions higher than that.
- maxer64, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5Hrm.. I just built a computer with a HD4830 in it. Oh well.. it ended up costing like 75 bucks. Saving $25 for 10 fps is okay with me, the poor student.
- stuffradio, on 04/28/2009, -4/+9Linux?
- specialcases, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5ah fair play!
also, digging up your name ^ - thecheatah, on 04/28/2009, -7/+12I dont know man, the closed source drivers nvidia gives are pretty good.
Does dual screen + compiz work on all ati cards? - mooninite, on 04/28/2009, -0/+4Most 9800GTX+ cards require two connectors and dual-slots.
The Gigabyte 9800GTX+ card only requires one connector and one slot. Gigabyte used solid capacitors and other higher quality parts, plus a Zalman HSF. It runs cooler than most 9800GTX+ cards. - sadisticmind, on 04/28/2009, -0/+4a marathon?
- inigomntoya, on 04/28/2009, -0/+4Yeah. Sorry that we didn't get your joke from 5 years ago...
- Jeremyz0r, on 04/28/2009, -0/+4The benchmark states that it does 19fps SUB-1080p (1680x1050)
(which is amazing for that ***** coded Crysis Engine v1.) - Jeepinator, on 04/28/2009, -1/+5Neither was I. I am now.
- misfit410, on 04/29/2009, -1/+5Uhm, think you need to read those reviews again, 250 was beaten by the 4770 in pretty much every game except COD:WAW..
GTS250 is a no brainer, if buy it, you have no brain. - mpdickso, on 04/28/2009, -2/+6Comprehensive review:

- Jektal, on 04/28/2009, -0/+3The box for my 4870 was larger than the box for my ATX motherboard.
