"looks like GoldenEye"
that's the first thing I thought - johanm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I bet there is some kinky executive star trek role playing going on there at night
- drewbles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I used to work for AT&T in their Tier 3 Network Engineering group. They actually have more NOC's around the world that are smaller and monitor in-region data networks. This NOC is not used for day-to-day Operations for Data customers at least. They used to have NOC's in-region with call centres at the same locations for customer support and pro-active fault monitoring and problem resolution.
The NOC is real in the picture, but it's not used for IP/ATM/Frame services. - eoliveri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25That workstation in the upper left corner is where the NSA agent sits.
- Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23FYI, all junkmail did was rip off the 2 highest dugg comments in the thread and post them as his own in the top comment string. Bury this tool.
- Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15To clean...this is NOT an operational NOC, no way in hell.
Where is the fat dude eating 3 hotdogs, the trashcan basketball hoop, the guy passed out in his chair, and the 3 guys talking about their WoW characters at? - SundayTrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14NORAD's setup looks pretty cool as well. At least it did in WarGames :-)
- FalseProphecy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13That's why I can't get any damn tech support from those guys. No one's there.
- EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Someone hook up the Nintendo Wii to that screen!
- G_money, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11where is the WOPR?
- prgrmmr736, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Maybe its just me but this reminds me of NASA mission control.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13PROTECT NATALYA!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Dude I see my last call I made on the bottom left screen.
- nfreader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yes, but does it seal hermetically?
- VANOS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12In before someone asks if it runs linux...
- Lerg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Having had the dubious pleasure of designing similar, albeit smaller, NOCs, I always find these things a complete waste of shareholder money. These things are designed to look very impressive, but rarely are they the most efficient or functional way to monitor and manage a large set of devices.
I actually was ordered to put a red phone in a NOC in direct view of the customer viewing window, just because someone thought it would impress a customer.
If you are choosing your network provider based on the size and flashiness of their customer facing NOC... well, you will probably get the type of service you deserve. - callmejordy265, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11question is, are you?
- simpleman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9ok I will bring the Wargames DVD now somebody needs to bring the popcorn and cherry Coke.
- jasonlich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Why did they spend on that money just to label the room at the top? a banner would have done the trick.
- grendel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9CTU has nothing on Ma Bell.
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here is some more information on it: http://www.christiedigital.com/AMEN/ApplicationStories/CommandControlRooms/ATTGlobalNetworkOperationsCenter.htm
Or some more here: http://www.extron.com/company/archive.asp?id=featureappatt - jellyroll713, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9As evil as AT&T is, I must say that looks pretty ***** cool.
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Now if only AT&T had Jack Bauer working for them
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sith Telecom
- h0zae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sell your soul to the devil, I mean government and you too can have this NOC
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I saw that picture, I imagined the part where you have to defend the terminal in Goldeneye while Natalya hacks into the satellite. "Hold on, I'm almost done!"
- KB3JUV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The screens are for show. All network operation centers have large screens like that so that when high up executives and big customers come in for tours, they have a lot of stuff to show off. Each one of the consoles on the floor can bring up any of the screens that you see up on the wall in better and closer resolution then they can see from that far away. That's the whole reason for having 5 or 6 panels at each console.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's powered by the souls of the damned.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is there any way to reach its reactor core? We may be able to stop it.
- Somniis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know that has been said at least 5 times already, right?
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The fishbowl or sykbox is were Lord Vader watches over his minions
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye That really does look like Goldeneye..... oh and That really does look like Goldeneye!
OK, enough people have pointed out how this looks like Golden Eye, if you anyone writes any comment below this one about how it looks like Goldeneye, please jump of a bridge! - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5arent they making wargames 2?
i see a burgerking product tie-in - jaydoug, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8does this remind anyone of the N64 Goldeneye level where you're there and shooting the bad guys as the come down the stairs? :)
- GrayOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Didn't MCIWorldcom use this room before going bankrupt or being bought back by AT&T?
AT&T is like the T-1000 in Terminator 2. We all thought that it being broken up into a bunch of little pieces would of killed it but unfortunately we are watching it pool together right before our eyes. - pabloD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's where they're gonna play the cartoons and the video game tourneys. They had to justify it somehow, so they hired some dude from CNN to create the cheesy motion graphic (cause you *know* that *****'s movin', all futuristic like).
- kernelhappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Pretty amazing, I wonder what the overall screen resolution of their screens is? 1,000,000,000x100,000?!?!?
*********************
On the bottom display I count 33 screens across 3 high, figuring the screens are 1024x768 (decent compromise on price and resolution considering the distance they're viewed from) that works out to 27,648x2,304 or as my mom would call it 63.7 mega pickles. The upper display is 11 screens across, 3 high, which works out to abotu 11,231x2304 and 25.8 mega pickles. There may be more displays, the bottom right side has at least one screen cut off.
No I don't have too much time on my hands, it's probably just OCD. - Gunegune, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6They probably run Unix since AT&T developed it (even though they sold all rights to Novell).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix - scams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is the Global Operations Centre for Telstra, the largest telco in Australia;

There are 400 terminals in the main surveillance hall, the focal point being the video wall containing 96 screens. It is located in Clayton, Victoria and open for members of the public to tour any time with prior arrangement.
