- clos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32doesn't matter how cool they are, we'll never see them in america
- Genmasho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26as someone currently in japan, some of you said that they looked boxy or cheap, from the pictures alone yes thats true, if you were to hold one and use one, you would fall in love with the phone, the phones here in japan are way better than the current cell phones in the states. when you get a phone that looks different than anything you have seen before, it has a 3.1 mega pixel phone, streaming t.v. (ligitamate tv, that you could find on tv at the same time as whats on your phone), internet and yes it has great calling quality. you simply cant beat the phones here in japan they are just so much better than anything currently on the market right now ( CURRENTLY, so go all pissy on me about saying that the phones here in japan are better than the Iphone)
- Anomaly427, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You seriously think a Japanese phone has two colours?. Even if it had 256 it would be unsaleable. Can't find data right now but even my old one has 4096... A few seconds of googling show that the D800iDS has two LCD screens, one of them a touchscreen, OLED sub-surface panel on the outside,
How's your phone? - thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12You really have no idea do you? Japan has been producing phones way more advance than the ones here in the US. I was there in 2001 when they had video conferencing introduced into a mobile phone. Also, the flip phone was popular there while we were still using the old stick style Nokias.
- shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"it's no iPhone......" You're right. It's not. Most the cell phones over here in Japan are amazing - they have outclassed US-made phones for years, and continue to do so. I will say though, the iPhone does have a very slick and attractive design and interface, but comparing technical specs.. Japan's phones are king.
- juggertehnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9where? All I see is a cute girl :D.
- kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7why was he dugg down..? everything he says is true..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10well at least the chick was cute.
- grungegbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think they look cool! maybe a big long but extremely thin! and touch screen too?
c'mon very innovative. - monkeyman08854, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thin is in...I don't see how they are copying anything.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But will you go block? That is the question.
Hint: Yes - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5they look cool to me, if i was in japan, i would have one?? Of course, i would probably have better sevice, and a faster data network , gps, etc
- kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"japs"?
what era do you live in, fool. racist bastard.
and you do know that asia had color screen phones way before america did? - avalenci, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@4NDr01D ... Well , in some points the Iphone ,looks old as well ... On my phone I can use GPS and automatically connect to the internet to get a map of my location. I can also plan routes for a trip ( including train and bus schedules ) based on my GPS position. Watch and RECORD TV and Radio, take video, use an SD card , etc... As far as I understand I will not be able to do some of this things with the Iphone .... Its so last century ...
( I have had a Sanyo W32SA for more than 1 year. http://www.sanyo-keitai.com/au/w32sa/index.shtml ) - dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The white one on the right looks like an early prototype, not a consumer product. It seems as if practically no thought was put into making the phone or the firmware look nice. The red one on the left seems like it might be nice, but it's hard to tell from that angle.
- vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The level of capability there totally outstrips anything the carriers here have and will have in the next little while. The reason is that these providers are big and slow moving companies with the traditional american business attitude. Why bother with high technology when older stuff works and makes you money?
- melophobia07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You think those are fugly?? you need a history lesson my friend.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h317/techspilled/phone1.jpg
Now THAT is fugly - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5When will we stop getting so excited about phones. They are just phones, not lifestyles.
- WhiteHawX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Is it just me, or does the white one look awesomely like a DS?
- Nar1117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yep... thats 3G for ya. The only reason iPhone is a 2G phone is because there isnt enough network infrastructure in the States to support a 3G phone in most places. People complain, but if they made it 3G it would hardly take advantage of the services that 3G offers.
- avalenci, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I forgot the Soft Bank models .

The W52T is damn sexy, wish I could have one. - vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's a new moto coming out, which is basically a stripped down SCPL. 11mm or so, black-and-white display, basic functions. It was on engadget quite a while ago, and it was designed specifically for the just-a-phone-please market (and emerging gsm markets as well).
- swin101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In the US, we're giddy about the iPhone, but Asian phone companies like DoComo put out similar quality devices year in and year out. It's just another example of (sadly) how far the US is falling behind in the cell phone market. We're lagging in cell phone penetration, innovation, and quality of service...yet pay the most for the service. So much for free trade in the US cell phone market.

- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ avalenci
I did not mention the iPhone in my post, thank you
I like its multi-touch screen, and agree it is under-powered in other areas
My point is about interface, and Buttons do not adapt with each application.
I'd trade all my features for a 4G connection like they are testing in South Korea
1Gigabit/second connectivity sounds great to me.
sadly the state of american cell phones is yet another market we have fallen behind in. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The one on the far left is the cutest...and I don't mean the phone. ;)
(2nd photo for non-clickers.) - phuqju, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Razr's are horrible phones!! They have BIGGEST return ratio.
- gullevek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm, finally a thin phone again. I am sick of this thick docomo phones. all other providers already have super slim editions ...
- avalenci, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its easier to write on them , and you have BIG screens ... I love them.
Ore you can see http://www.au.kddi.com/collection/07spring/main.html spring collection for KDDI- AU - imyayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ugly.
- dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23 megapixel, Video Conferencing, 3.5G , and T-DMB are nearly standard over there while we are stuck with... the Motorolas they copied?
Hmm.... - dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bleh, muti-touch is hype to me. Anything portable that I can't use with one hand comfortably is unattractive to me.
The large shape of the phones is for a bigger screen. Japanese phones have some of the most vibrant screens I have ever seen. Bar None...
Oh and no, none of the Japanese Phones work in any of the US frequencies, so no importing... - LegalSatire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Okay, so where can I buy these? And if I do buy them, can I make them work on a US network? I'd take any of these over the iPhone anyday... I particularly like something with buttons so I can text during class - something the iPhone makes impossible with lack of feelable buttons.
Anyone know if there's some way to convert them to US networks? - yujie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll take it over any phone provided by the 3 major provider here
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stupid clamshells.
- killrrabit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. I used to live in Taiwan and the phones there were bad ass. I want an iPhone (and I'm going to buy one), but honestly I'd rather just have a f-ing tiny thin phone that I don't give a damn about if I lose it or accidentally drop it in the pool.
- Zer0kill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Time to go down to my local Seiyu(Japan's version of Wal-Mart but with cooler *****) and check these out.
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, you are obviously not ready for.... the revolution.
- forchilli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3they are all mad cool!
those girls are pretty gorgeous too. - zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These look awesome. C'mon, American phone companies! get to crippling these things so we can buy them here!
- qster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damn..I thought the title said domo kun..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(After looking at the photos) So, maybe the Japanese aren't really yawning at the iPhone after all :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Err.. you forget, this is digg. I think you belong in the real world.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I say screw the phones, I want those girls.
- phuqju, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What frequencies do these phones use?
- CzescToJa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I predict these phones are going to be very successful, especially since they don't cost you your soul and $499.
- hungryduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Nintendo DS Phone?
- swin101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out photo #5 on the link...would love to see more photos with that feature. The one thing that I really wish the the iPhone had was a clamshell design. I admit it, I am addicted to the flip phone.
- applepro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they're all look identical except coloring.
