- 1773nium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The only words out of my mouth would be "Dont put your dirty grimey hands on my LCD, B*tch!"
Then would begin the era of playing stratego alone. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Imagine the RISK of gaming on that!
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Before someone says this is old news, the Entertaible (*snicker*) has just been premiered this week at Internationale Funkausstellung (*snicker*), previously it was only a prototype.

Just keep a box of white latex gloves (the kind hospitals use) next to the table, and make people wear them. - catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I guess like the Wii...
the name grows though.. - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Please everyone... use the coasters for your drinks thank you...
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude...now I can update my Mrs Pac Man / Galaga table.

I don't see this as much different than a traditional stand-up arcade game or those little video game units that they stick on bars.
- maduin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the mitsubishi merl diamondtouch looks better to me

http://www.merl.com/projects/DiamondTouch/ - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just cringe at the thought of a well frosted woman casually brasching her engagement rock all over that screen...
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That'll work until the [frat brother|stupid brother|messy sister|niece|nephew}etc] comes over and sticks their mudsoaked feet up on the table or spills a drink on it.
Charging family $2000 for a ruined LCD touchscreen would be a total PITA. - Barghest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can you put a pint of beer on it without scratching the screen, eh?
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Cool idea. ***** name.
- saigumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll take a few!
Imagine being able to play Carcassonne on that thing. My store could have a ton of boardgames that are easilly demo'ed. - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.research.philips.com/newscenter/pictures/downloads/digsoc_appl_01_entertaible_h.jpg
Wow! They almost look like they're really... playing... a... board... game... Oh. - blaket, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If that makes you think of D&D (as it did me) check this out:
http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=2056851&postcount=1 - ronaldb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@josegutz:
I think if you look at the pictures, they're already using coasters... and they look like... AOL CD's!!! Argh! - Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wish I owned one of those. Pac Man tables used to be in all the Pizza Huts.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are several things I'd like to know about this thing:
- Price?
- Will it eventually be available to the general public? If so, when?
- How durable is that screen? Will it scratch/short out/crack easily?
- Is the screen user-replaceable, or would I have to call a professional to fix it?
- Can you hook it up to a computer and download games/upgrades?
- Could I network it with a handheld touchscreen device (PDA/Nintendo DS), and have a private info screen for my D&D stats, score, a hand of cards, etc? - Gridmark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Perhaps it can be hacked to run the touchscreen Starcraft that was dugg earlier.

One can dream... - Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One more thing... does it have to be built into the table, or can it be a several-inch-thick sheet that is set on top of an existing table?
- pjsk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Just keep a box of white latex gloves (the kind hospitals use) next to the table, and make people wear them."
Make sure they're latex. You wouldn't want Michael Jackson showing up at your doorstep, now would you? HEEheee - st23am, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Anyone else but me thinking Digital Maps and Dungeons and Dragons or some other Pen and Paper RPG?
- flipside3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow! This is incredibly great...
Maybe by the time I have grandchildren it will be affordable. - brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Projection vs LCD? C'mon...
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if you can play foosball or air hockey on that thing....
- liveinabin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5C'mon Nintendo. I want compatible Pokemon cards that set off animation when put into play on the table :)
- ddev2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone else but me think these guys are virgins?
- lerinlas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't see them shelling out 6 grand though if they could get a CRT unit for much less. I guess a few upscale places could buy it, but I don't really see this fitting into their core market.
Once again a case of cool idea... high price... no market. :-P Too bad though. - greedo80000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like how playing stratego requires no strategy at all.
- marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one of those things that made me say...that's so obvious.
- darlok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's neat, those interested in non-video games should wander over toe boardgamegeek.com, it's an amazing resource for games and has one of the best online communities i've ever seen.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1{{{slam}}} DOMINO *****!
- shagz7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i love to have a glass of wine with my board games (see photos in article)
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess this is targeting a Non-smoker/Non-drinker type of demographic...
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yahtzee anyone?
- pjsk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@lerinlas
Some people still like board games, and set in a bar, where many people are around, you're bound go gain some money.....especially if each player has to pop in a few quarters before they can play. - embarkadero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Phillips does not care about black people"
//at least the photographer of these photos didn't - ImmortalLobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its about time the old board games are able to join the 21st century =)
As long as its not overly expensive, I can see this thing selling quite well - ZigZagMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Imagine that for a good FPS, RPG, or RTS etc...Game ,now that's a gaming LCD screen.
- bookishboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Worst name ever"?
What about the Wii? - s1ipstream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... hate leads to suffering, yes.
- JingJang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Pen and paper RPG's - you BET! This would be great assuming we get some software that would recognize which characters held light sources, how far those light sources would reach, how to identify secret/hidden doors versus doors easily visible, etc. 3rd Edition D&D makes the minis and battleboard aspect really enjoyable.
blaket - I saw the post on enworld about the projector setup and you are right it's really cool, but the amount of work on the GM to make it come together is substantial.
ddev2000 - We have 13 people in our D&D group. All but one is married. None of us are virgins - thanks for the concern ;) - simpletim, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6yeah, I want a $6,000 board game. I'm not sure this is what it will actually cost, but I don't see a large amount of people being able to afford this. Especially not me, and that's why I choose to hate it.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Or Yu-Gi-Oh cards...
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Worst. Name. Ever.
- ZigZagMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I seen that before along time ago in pizza shop around my house. good memories. There's nothing like eating and playing your favorite game.
