- Shenaniganz08, on 05/19/2009, -4/+128I will reserve judgment until I can actually use the phone in real life
Much like the iPhone, or any touch device, the OS will make or break it. - holzp, on 05/19/2009, -5/+96Wait, is that the pre-release?
- Omaplatypus, on 05/19/2009, -5/+60Sprint's Everything Plus programs ($59.99/500 Anytime Minutes + Unlimited Text/Data) coupled with the Palm Pre ($199)... sounds like a better deal than what at&t's got going for it... add to it a true 3G network that's proven to be faster, and you've gotta be taking it in the ass and loving it to think you've got a better thing going with at&t. The iPhone is a great device on a ***** network, enough said.
- beachtrader, on 05/19/2009, -8/+62Dumb release date. The article says poor Apple because this is two days before Apple's big conference, but what a way to cut short your press. So, the maximum press you will get with your product is one or two days before the marketing blitz of Apple hits. Dumb, dumb, dumb idea. There is a reason each year that each blockbuster movie avoids each other--so each can dominate the press.
- canyonblue, on 05/19/2009, -2/+51Totally disagree. This release date was their ONLY choice (and not a great one at that). If they launched in May or earlier many folks would wait to see what iPhone offered in summer and the buzz would be gone from the Pre by the iPhone launch. If they waited till Fall everyone would already have the 3rd iPhone. By launching June 6th they GUARANTEE that every media outlet, tv, newspaper, and magazine will run iPhone launch stories that compare it to the just released Pre. While that is a dangerous game to play, in particular if the new iPhone seems the superior product (we'll see) it at least gets Palm huge media attention that I doubt they would get otherwise. You can bet after the keynote on June 8th every single iPhone story will mention the Pre to folks who otherwise would have never heard of it.
- Blisshead, on 05/19/2009, -6/+54I own an iphone and I'm even digging you down.
- Me1000, on 05/19/2009, -0/+41We don't do that here.
- Isandunk, on 05/19/2009, -7/+42Finally... took your time about getting this out Palm.
I'm waiting with baited breath to see what $299 translates to in the UK (and when it'll be released here)... hopefully something reasonable and not the common $1:£1 pricing we usually see. - goat2, on 05/19/2009, -7/+32ive got some pre to release into your palm
- GMirza, on 05/19/2009, -5/+28If you missed the Palm Pre Keynote at CES: (Full Keynote)

I love Apple, but Palm has really won this time with Multi-tasking. The ability to open up multiple apps and windows much you would in a desktop environment is a much needed function I hope other mobile operating systems start implementing. - thephosphorbox, on 05/19/2009, -0/+18Amen to that, sir. I hope webOS is all its cracked up to be.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+15You're right that the iPhone sells more (probably way more), but the Pre only known to people on Digg? Not quite. The only people who think Digg is the center of the universe are Digg commenters.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -10/+25The Pre will probably not sell as much as the iPhone. The Pre is not widely known to people outside of Digg. Very unfortunate for Palm.
- TallestSkil, on 05/19/2009, -1/+15Beginning of June, imbicile. Two days after the Pre launch.
- dominiej, on 05/19/2009, -6/+20I already have Sprint - never had a problem, and now a great phone is coming - very cool!
- robbob, on 05/19/2009, -2/+15This is Palm's last chance. As a Capitalist, I hope they succeed
- SteveMax, on 05/19/2009, -4/+16"Multitasking FTW"
Using this phrase to praise a Palm still sounds very odd. - sandipc, on 05/19/2009, -2/+14......after mail-in rebate
- Darkckai, on 05/19/2009, -6/+17Wonder when the UK will get some Pre love...
- jonshipman, on 05/19/2009, -0/+10Well Palm has said the first half of 09. So that was a warning that it couldn't be too long now.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 05/19/2009, -4/+14This device will be able to do so many of the things that the iPhone can't (or couldn't do until OS 3.0?)-- not to mention a more compact footprint and attractive package. I'll be buying myself a Pre on 6/6, and I hope to God the webOS craze catches on! Palm pretty much NEEDS it to!
- Soragon, on 05/19/2009, -0/+9Funny... that's what people said about Android.
Don't take me wrong but I love the G1, except for the ***** battery life... and the laggy environment... and the fact that I can't tether (Jailbroken iPhone).
People also said that about the Blackberry Storm.
For me to decide, I'll wait and see. - birch25, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10Fanboyism does not create a better product, stiff competition does.
I'm leaving my parents' family plan this summer and will likely get an iPhone but the better the Pre is and the better it sells, the more pressure will be on Apple to make the iPhone even better. In the end we all win :) - iDiggr, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10Oh, he's talking about ejaculation.
- MacParrot, on 05/19/2009, -0/+9I would agree with that. Releasing it in May would have given the tech press some extra time to play with it. I like having competition (keeps prices down), but with this release so close to the iPhone and other Apple announcements it might get lost in the buzz. I hope not though
- SteveMax, on 05/19/2009, -0/+9Your Blackberry, my S60, Windows Mobile, Sony-Ericsson's dumbphones... Actually, only PalmOS and the iPhone are limited to single-tasking among smartphones.
- beervolcano, on 05/19/2009, -0/+9Dugg for being the first non-retarded comment.
I absolutely agree. I'm in the market for a smartphone right now, and am eagerly awaiting some hands-on time with the new products coming out. It's very exciting! - jblade, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10I see what you did there!
I should pre-pare for more of those jokes! - ryansmith18, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10...that's why he asked what the regular price is.
- freeridstylee, on 05/19/2009, -0/+9Was the article tilted, "What kind of phone do you like?"
- open2discussion, on 05/19/2009, -4/+13@sprint just said on twitter that anyone with a SERO plan will have to change it "The Pre requires an Everything Data plan - SERO plans will need upgrade to Everything Plus plan or other Everything Data (450/900/S.E.)."
No thanks... I'm not paying $300 - $100 MIR, AND doubling the cost I'm paying per month for this phone (currently $30/month on SERO) - the cheapest Everything data plan is $70/month (with 50 less minutes than I get on SERO). Screw you Sprint... not remotely worth it. - thephosphorbox, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10You're right.. Palm is definitely the underdog here. I think the Pre is going to be a great product, thought it might take some time before it gains a foothold. Can Palm survive as a company long enough to see that happen? That's my burning question.
- ryansmith18, on 05/19/2009, -2/+10I think that makes June 7th the post pre release :o
- nevinl, on 05/19/2009, -0/+8@Digging4life: And you blew it...nice job...
Good luck with your career... - HurricaneDC, on 05/19/2009, -0/+7I'm gonna wager $600.
- jeremymccurdy, on 05/19/2009, -0/+7"No Europe release dates = who gives a f**k"
I would imagine people who don't live in Europe might give a *****. I don't think US consumers are going to boycott a product because it hasn't been released outside of their country yet. - Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -0/+7I had doubts about webOS until I saw it has a tab that launches the classic PalmOS and is actually faster than the native devices like the LifeDrive or Tungsten TX.
- IanLacy, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6Full retail price is $549.
- or3n, on 05/20/2009, -0/+6That was pre-tty lame.
:D - zeeky, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6could change the case
- beret9987, on 05/19/2009, -2/+8Liks Blisshead, I own an iPhone as well and have dugg you down. Mainly for being an idiotic fanboy.
- AndrewWiggin, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6It's exclusive to Sprint.
Source: Palm Pre keynote. - HurricaneDC, on 05/19/2009, -2/+8Sprint's network isn't that expansive either.
- wilhoitm, on 05/19/2009, -4/+10This is really going to kill Windows Mobile. Microsoft should be even more scared now! Microsoft cannot compete against a features battle between Apple and Palm. Let the competition begin!
- dsmith5237, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5You know it's cheaper to get the discount then cancel later and pay the fee if needed. Right? Right?
- herbiehancock00, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Sucks to be paying the same price as everyone else huh?
- aeiou, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Free roaming means I don't care. When I actually need the speed I'll be in their coverage.
- thephosphorbox, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Sure if you want intentionally crippled smartphones, go for Verizon. I'm jumping off the VZW ship as soon as the Pre is available.
- HurricaneDC, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6Palm needs to launch an aggressive marketing campaign. I heard on Engadget that last week they were filming stuff in LA and that they'll be putting out ads this week or next.
- freeridstylee, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Centro started it's life as a Sprint only phone, then some months later it ended up on every network, I suspect the same from the pre. Palm also has another phone in the works that should be availabe on more networks.
