We truly apologize if this decision will cause you any inconveniences and we want you to know that your business has been appreciated over the years.
PCClub Management - Surrealist2020, on 05/14/2008, -3/+31I worked as a technician for PC Club for about 4 years and I experienced the gradual decline of this company's reputation first hand. The company pressured me to start implementing dishonest computer services, hence the reason why I left. Other clues started to hint at the company's inevitable failure such as fewer inventory shipments and the fact that sales were dropping month after month. The writing was smeared all over the walls, but they continued to leave employees and store managers out of the loop. I wish the best of luck to all former PC Club employees.
- frgmstr, on 05/14/2008, -1/+24http://www.clubit.com/ - We are sad to announce that PC Club and Club IT are now closed. We apologize to our customers. If you have any pending orders or concerns please contact us at customerinfo@pcclub.com. Thanks you for all your years of support.
- frgmstr, on 05/14/2008, -2/+24From HardForum.com: "I just called my local pc club and they recieved the order at 2pm today to close their doors and not sell any more stock. They will be allowing current customers to pickup their systems from PC club but that is IT. No firesale sales and no discounts, all stock will be impounded and PC Club will cease to exist."
- JavertHolmes, on 05/14/2008, -3/+23Does all of Digg work at PC Club?
- fuhnoo, on 05/14/2008, -2/+20I used to work at PC Club as well for 1 year. I enjoyed it until management became shrewd and tried to enforce us to implement policies that forced us to cheat and lie to the customers. The internal workings of the company also violated several laws and prohibited any sort of positive internal growth. This isn't even mentioning the inventories that were so inefficient that they often times lasted until 2 or 3 in the morning, most of the time in vain.
I'll miss my coworkers and the deals, but that's about it.
"To focus on customer values by offering quality computer products and services in the most effective and innovative way to computer professionals." ... lol. - skrasis, on 05/14/2008, -3/+21I quit the LASA (Santa Clarita) location almost a year ago and never looked back. For a company that routinely treated its employees with complete disrespect and irregard along with a failing business model (Comp USA anyone) it was only a matter of time.
- Zaeth, on 05/14/2008, -4/+19No idea it is bothering me. I am digging everybody up.
- twiztidsinz, on 05/14/2008, -1/+13I think you mean "cue" as in a 'cue card' or a 'stage cue' as opposed to "queue" as in a 'waiting line'
- Gwencallon, on 05/14/2008, -3/+16Well, I can tell you that I am very angry.
My gaming rig is sitting in the Santa Clarita store right now. They called me today, sometime after 12:30 PM in an attempt to help me get my rig by 5 PM. I came home at 6 to that message on my machine. That's several thousand dollars worth of MY property.
Will I every get my stuff back? What condition will it be in? How long will it take? Who knows!
It's infuriating that the corporation allowed the stores to accept PC's for service when they knew they would be closing their doors. I have already contacted an attorney to see about a class action suit. I don't know if it is actionable ... but if it is ... I'll certainty pursue it.
And, to deny the employees their vacation pay ... outrageous. Vacation pay is earned! Perhaps the employees should look in to taking legal action as well. Good luck to all you guys, I hate that this has happened to you. - Surrealist2020, on 05/14/2008, -1/+10There was no way they could survive against the likes of Newegg or Tiger Direct.
- cmschmidt, on 05/14/2008, -4/+12am I the only one here who considers themself to be a pretty good geek but has no idea what either of these 2 companies are?

PC Club closing stores; customers urged to pick up computers ASAP
03:08 PM PDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
By kgw.com Staff
A computer store is closing its Portland area locations and customers who brought their computers in for repair are urged to pick their computers up as soon as possible, an employee told KGW on Tuesday.
AP
Regional manager Jonas Fowler with the Tigard PC Club store said PC Club was sold to another entity a couple months ago and officials were setting up to liquidate the store but have now filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
He said employees were told to shut down all the stores Tuesday and not to come back on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Fowler -- who is now out of a job -- was trying to reach customers that have computers in the store so they can come pick them up since he doesn’t know what will happen Wednesday. - Jer1, on 05/14/2008, -2/+10Are all the people with rebates pending from either store, pretty much screwed?
- billygreen23, on 05/14/2008, -0/+7k, that got a little weird towards the end there.
- left, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9Seems like there are a few ex-employees in the thread, myself included. We should start a support group. =P PC Club had some really great employees from my experiences, but management drug the company down since the founder died a few years ago, just bad decision making really. Any employee that did not see this coming wasn't paying attention, the signs had been on the walls for awhile, especially the last month or so with all the HQ "seperations" and policy and price changes. I enjoyed my time there, but it's time to move on.
- forsetifox, on 05/14/2008, -2/+10I was at the Mesa location when they closed the store in the middle of the day. Was not even there for 2 months and I already saw the signs of the companys decline. Same thing happened to CompUSA whom I also worked for for 12 years and got let go. Maybe I'm cursed? Think I should apply to Frys? *evil grin* Poor customers have to go to Best Buy and Fry's to get thier computers fixed now. I feel really sorry for them. ^.^;
- mbonnin, on 05/14/2008, -4/+12Am I the only one who does not know what PC Club / Club IT is and why it is interesting that they are going out of business?
- afx1, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7i'll try but no promises
- my4n3rl, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9What a shame!
I have spent over $8, grand at the Westwood (L.A.) store in the past 5-years and really appreciated the relationships with this location's employees. It's really sad the BBB gave them an "F" rating but management really declined after the founder died 2- years ago. Sure I love Newegg, but here the employees knew all their customers who were mostly small business owners, UCLA staff/students, and we enthusiasts. And now another local business is gone forever. "R.I.P..." P C Club... You shall be missed. - fuhnoo, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7Gotta love it. They used to average what... 23% profit on their sales? Recently, products averaged at around 11-17% margin. It definitely was a matter of time.
- daserg, on 05/14/2008, -2/+10Just my 5¢ from another LASA/LATO Ex-Employee/Manager. My condolences go out to all previous PC Club employees and managers. I have myself had the privilege of working with some of the most intelligent/outgoing and witty staff members throughout the years. My staff was professional and my store co-workers, friends. Best to all of you.... On the other hand, to the upper-management of PC Club/ClubIT *whatever*.. (shakes head). You were tasked with continuing a legacy of Mr Jackson Lan, and you successfully drove a vision into the ground.
"To focus on Customer Values by offering Quality Computer Products and Services in the Most Effective and Innovative Way to Computer Professionals." - inactive, on 05/14/2008, -3/+10Am I the only ex-employee that experienced racial discrimination? My AZ, Arrowhead location manager was asian, as was a second employee. I was treated like garbage despite my tech knowledge, experience, and ability to speak english clearly. Forced to mop the store, do the ***** part of inventory, and denied mgmt training (since the other asian with no tech knowledge and poor english was a better choice)
I thought, maybe it was all just a coincidence until I noticed a poster with the management tree leading to the top. It became all too clear that there was no future there.
I'm curious if anyone else was treated poorly for not being asian. - bigt8dogg, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5I worked at the Tigard, Oregon location for a total of about 9 months. While I was there, I could definitely feel the vibe of a company in trouble. I heard stories about how they closed about 10 stores right before I started working there from long time employees that were still with the company at other stores. They told me about their methods of closing the stores: Change the locks in the middle of the night. Nobody knew anything until it happened. I was stunned that they closed completely, without trying to get rid of any of their inventory first, but that's about the way they ran things. It always seemed like nobody at Corporate knew what anyone else at Corporate was doing; to resolve stupid things that would take a couple minutes on the phone w/ someone took 5-10 phone calls, a barrage of emails, and people yelling at people over the phone all the time, and even then, only about 75% of the problems were successfully resolved. I'm sad to see them go, especially now that all of the hundreds of systems I've sold to my own customers no longer have warranties through PC Club; I have to do all the legwork myself and pay out of my own pocket now. Oh well, ***** happens.
- Super6, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6They were more like a newegg that also had retail stores
- Fidget253, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7PC Club was a privately-owned, United States-based chain of computer hardware stores established in City of Industry, California in 1992. The stores are located primarily in west-coast states and stock hardware and peripherals for PCs and complete computer systems assembled under the brand name Enpower. As of Tuesday, May 13, 2008 it is out of business and has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy
PC Club sold directly to both consumers and local resellers from inside 38 brick-and-mortar stores (as of July 2007) and on their website. They provided live tech support by phone, maintained an online forum and would answer questions through E-mail. In-store repairs and upgrades are available at all locations with an average turn-around time of 1-3 days[6].
Enpower
Enpower is the name brand for computer systems sold through PC Club for over 16 years. What makes Enpower systems different from many large distributors is that they are built from brand new , name-brand parts and they include a full-install copy of Microsoft Windows (rather than a recovery disc loaded with extra software). - munawarali2, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9What's PC Club? We only have Bestbuy in Canada.
- exilepc, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6I worked there too, and i was hearing of employees coming to work and the stores where empty and the signs where gone.
- fuhnoo, on 05/14/2008, -2/+7To be honest, I actually enjoyed working at LASA. The problem started when we got the new regional manager from CCBF (whose name won't be mentioned). Once he came in, it all seemed to go to hell. The individual techs and sales people at our location always did our best to help customers--we never overcharged, we cut people slack, and we wanted to make sure the job was done right.
Once our new RM started trying to force us to do things like charge $20 for doing software installations (in this case... driver installations) after the customer spent $99.99 on an XP format/reinstallation WITHOUT telling them until they pick it up. If the customer complained, we were instructed to force them to wait as we undid all of the software changes we made to make it work.
It's pretty much things like that that really turned me off to working there, even disgusted me. I know that Jackson would be rolling over in his grave if he knew about it. Cheers to all former employees though, especially those who worked with me! ^^ - techlyc, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5I forgot the mission statement as soon as a was allowed to. Dugg for remembering it.
Jackson Lan is spinning in his grave at 7200rpm...
--former LATO tech - bradacus, on 05/14/2008, -2/+7As a manager over at LABB Burbank location I can say that the signs were apparent weeks ago. In fact yesterday before we closed I was looking online to see if there were any reports of PC CLUB filing bankruptcy. It didn't come as a shock but rather disbelief that they would just shaft so many of their employees who were so loyal for so long. Quote from my manager meeting today:
"The checks from last week have been finalized and the period thereafter of days were worked is uncertain." - lawyer
"what about vacation hours?" - anonymous
"You will not be getting vacation hours." - lawyer
Best of luck to all you ex-employees out there. Anyone who managed to stay at PC CLUB for over 6 months is qualified to work anywhere in the field. It was a trying job at times but always rewarding. RIP PC CLUB - RIP Jacksons dream.
Adieu. - wernst, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4For whose wondering who the hell PCCLub is, PCClub was basically a national-chain version of the mom-and-pop white-box PC assembler. They generally had good prices and a good selection of hardware, assembled competently, and were willing to do custom work like partition a hard drive a certain way. You could take a PCClub PC bought at one location and get it fixed at another, and with locations all around SoCal, the western US, and apparently in other pockets across the country, it was almost like getting a custom-built PC with nationwide support. No, they weren't the best clone-builders out there, but they were always fine for my clients who didn't want a Dell or Lenovo.
I was counting on them to assemble some WinXP computers after Dell stopped doing so after June 18 for a few clients. I wonder who I will turn to now... - graemee, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4Great tech is like porn. Hope he get's it back soon.
- skylermoon, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6The only time our inventory dident go untill 3 in the monring was when Jim Smith was our manager and aparently he sacked the company for around 30k in theft... so i guess thats why his inventorys went so well..
- bubdubb, on 05/14/2008, -16/+21$23 for a SATA cable, wanting to charge $98.00 to plug in an AC adaptor to make sure that was the problem before I purchased one from you. Closing your doors 4 minutes until closing time when all I need to get is an overpriced parallel cable, charging the customer in front of me $139.99 to remove one virus from his PC.
Good riddance you pricks, I hope your execs take a queue from Enron and eat something chambered in .357 - skrasis, on 05/14/2008, -2/+7My guess would be they would try and process as many that are still pending the really crappy thing is the warranties! all voided
- sigmaman2, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4LOL Not any more!
- LoudMusic, on 05/14/2008, -3/+8Who the hell is PC Club? I've never heard of them. Are they like CompUSA? Those bastards went out of business too. Horrible terrible really really bad service. Thousands of stories, no need to retell mine here.
But I have to ask, are Circuit City and Best Buy going to follow? Circuit City isn't known for being great, and I've heard bad things about Best Buy even though I've never had a bad experience. - skylermoon, on 05/14/2008, -5/+10"$23 for a SATA cable, wanting to charge $98.00 to plug in an AC adaptor to make sure that was the problem before I purchased one from you. I am sorry you had such a bad experience. in Oregon we NEVER sold 20 sata cables.. our 1 meter cable was 12.99 as for the virus and spy ware removal, Its NEVER just one.. and the 98.00 ac adapter thing? I doubt that.. if someone did that at our store we would have been fired.. - Surrealist2020, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4You didn't have to read the article in the first place, or even comment on it
- nblsavage, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5It's a story about PC Club. Do you commonly go to threads and tell people to stop talking about the subject?
- kidd3ckz, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5I bought a PC from them in Denver and like a week or two later after I started having problems with a component, I went back and the store was GONE.
Like Alice in Wonderland type *****. - cid2001, on 05/14/2008, -2/+6I was employed with PC Club when the good years were starting to fade at LASN. We still had Store sale incentive dinners and were selling high volume. I wore all hats I was a Salesman, Tech, and Manager in Training. I met with Jackson Lan Several times and found him a very inspirational person. Since his death PC Club went from bad to worse and I really feel for all of you that lost your jobs. Best of luck to you all.
"To focus on Customer Values by offering Quality Computer Products and Services in the Most Effective and Innovative Way to Computer Professionals." - Fidget253, on 05/14/2008, -2/+6Yet another Ex-Employee here from LASA.. This kinda sucks but there were a few signs that lead up to this. But After we had to packup the Thermaltake and AG neovo i know we were going to be in trouble.. We just all figure that a few store would be shutdown.. No all of them at once.. But there was no office warning. Not even our regional Manager knew about this
- electr0, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4I know a lot of you guys that are on this board, I'm Dana M, from PC Club Thousand Oaks. I worked there for about 4 years from the Palmdale location originally. It was pretty much obvious if you would have been suspicious about the activity that goes on. They recalled all Thermaltake Products out of the store, which emptied out the store pretty much, we had a lot of their stuff. If you asked your manager, the excuse I believe they got was, we are switching vendors to someone who can give us a lower price. That is a bunch of BS. When you switch vendors you dont give the vendor everything back. So anyway, I am on my lunch break at my new job, the one i got a month prior because it was obvious that the store was closing. Good thing i was suspicious. To all of you guys that worked with me, through pc club. Thanks for the memories, they made me who I am today. I will miss this job.
- alittleroy101, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4Get a sturdy axe, go to the store, and let yourself in. Maybe it's still in the repair bay in the back.
- cmschmidt, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3twice?
- ender7074, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I bet its just like every other franchise store. It really depends on where you are at. At BB, Ive seen the Geek Squad in one location totally lie to a person whereas the other BB 10 minutes up the street does quality work (or at least as good as you can expect from Geek Squad). Sucks when you get stuck with the crappy store over the ones trying to do right by their clients.
- techlyc, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I remember early '06 when our store manager (who the week prior got promoted to RM) told us that he was going to CO for a week to assist with a management problem.
He came back a little upset that he helped pack all the inventory onto pallets and load it onto trucks - just minutes after telling closing employees that they were doing a "special inventory check". Employees at ALL PC Clubs located outside of CA arrived to work the next morning to empty lots with handwritten signs on the doors. *SHOCK* just like today?!
The next week after that, an underperforming CA store figured that all nonprofitable stores were next under the axe, and decided to preempt a company decision. They started walking with tech parts and abandoned customer systems to the parking lot and putting it in their cars. Once again, my RM had to go handle the situation. Imagine his surprise seeing the entire staff sitting on the curb - all in handcuffs.
This is over two years in the making. When Jackson's brother took over - the death knell had sounded for the company. Newegg, Pricewatch and TigerDirect didnt help. Falling hardware prices, and rapid new generations of hardware creating quick obsolescence (and thus "dust-gatherers") didnt help. Poor top-level management after Mr Lan's passing was just the nail in the coffin.
I resigned from the company rather than watch it bleed to death. I helped set a few records for the company with a couple of the other Digger/former PCClub employees here. I cannot say it was a favorite job - but I don't regret any of it. It helped place me in a good spot, and I'm still in contact with most of the staff that worked at my location when I did.
R.I.P Jackson's dream. - nblsavage, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5Who the hell are you again?
