- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+171Duke Nukem - Legend of The Optimus Keyboard
- Sedako, on 10/12/2007, -2/+158So now, instead of paying $1200 for monochrome, we pay $2000 for color. Yay!
- a3r0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+80Hey, that some great math there, guys.
Let's see, I can get a 2 colour 32 character display from eBay for about $2. Each character has 40 pixels, so thats 1280 pixels in total.
2/1280 = $0.0015625 per pixel. ($0.00078125 per colour)
My LCD has a resolution of 1440 * 900, so that's 1296000 pixels in total.
Each pixel can display 256^3 colours, giving me 21,743,271,936,000 colours in total.
$0.00078125 x 21743271936000
Therefore, my monitor should have cost me $16,986,931,200. Funny that it was only $220 :) - pvtjohndoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79This company has proven time and time again that they are full of false promises. As kick-ass as this keyboard would be to have, I think it's still years off.
- Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+62From the Digg 101 textbook:
"Blog spam" is when the blog *isn't* the original source. - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -24/+75Try $304,800
1200 x 254 colors (256 colors, minus B&W = 254) = 304800 - gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+60technically
$1200/2 colors = 600/color
so 600*256 = $153600 - hriwo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50because its a blog.
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45also... the model numbers seem to correspond with the number of keys they'll have for each keyboard. very interesting. i shall look into this AT ONCE!
- combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Actually, they're going with a new technology for this keyboard. Each key has its own sensor made of unicorn hair and dreams.
- alexlr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Why? Microsoft could probably do it for far less and get it out there in a semi-timely fashion, considering how big a company they are.
- HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31No, you don't get it. This IS the source. That's the creator's blog. It's linked from their website.
- loconet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30One curious thing someone else noted. Anyone noticed the model numbers are primes? "Optimus-prime"
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31It isn't listed how much colors they use... instead of black/white they might just use pink/green.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23This has the smell of the Phantom gaming console.
- nicksource, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I hope they go from colour to 3d, glasses included. :)
- kidford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I think the headline should read, Optimus Keyboard Remains Vaporware.
After such a long time and so many changes, I don't see this ever coming to market. It's a nice thought, and a neat product - but it ain't gonna happen. - seanalltogether, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22If you look at some of the other posts at on their main page http://community.livejournal.com/optimus_project/ they've been posting alot of disinformation this month just to jerk around with people. This could just be another fake post.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24"semi-timely"
lol - brewer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26You must be too stupid to understand the difference between "too", "to", and "two", too.
/tutu? - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21They obviously got scared that the 'pre orders' would drop, so to scam a bit more cash, they resorted back to the colour idea.
- sethworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Like this is ever going to be released.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16At this point, I don't give a *****. This thing's vaporware as far as I'm concerned.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@jonnyboy88:
heh... let me guess, the only "good" mobile is the one studded with diamonds right? - wordsofwisedumb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Yeah but it might look something like this:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~rsw/images/ms-keyboard.jpg - clownfart, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Well by the time the develop it it'll be cheaper, I say around the same price range.
- jonnyboy88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"It will cost less than a good mobile phone."
-From their FAQ: http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/answers/ - robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The only people getting "OWNED" here are the people dumb enough to believe these guys will have this keyboard done in the next year.
http://www.digg.com/view/all/popular/thisyear
oops. - WiBu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@ Aggort "Then please explain to me where any sources are listed?"
The blog is the blog of the company who are making the keyboard, I believe they are the source, you tool. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Ah ha Aggort! Put that knee back down and come out of your mother's basement for some fresh air.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's always fun to point out the retards flamingmb.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Just like Vista!
- Picard102, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I'll belive it when I see it.
- kosibar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Sounds like they need to learn from Apple. Sell us the monochrome version now, then get us to upgrade to the color version later. Then get us to upgrade to a color version with a card reader where inserting a card into the card slot displays tiny thumbnails of our digital photos on each key. Then we will have to upgrade to the version with built-in remote control capability for our TV, VCR, etc.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Man, I -so- cannot wait to play Duke Nukem Forever on my new Optimus keyboard!
- flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the minute this comes out there will be a cheaper chinese version.
- Ansible, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Why don't they go with 3D holograms over the keyboard while they're at it... or nanites that remanufacture each key into a little sculture of the icon...
- WUThad, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12do you think we'll still be using computers when this comes out?
- PsychoPNut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Not like anyone cares what I have to say.... but, anyone/any company or whatever who buys this at this price or similar price is stupid.
- LiquidPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Who cares? It's not like it's going to be released at a time that it'll make a difference.
- TenMinuteParty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11OWNED
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I declare shenanigans!
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6As far as I'm concerned, this confirms that the Optimus Keyboard is a hoax. OLED does not yet have the lifespan to be used in an always-on display type device. That's why it is only used on cell phones currently.
- jackspade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6never understood people going ape ***** over this. The more proficient you become at using a keyboard the less you should need to look at the keys, whether you're playing a game or just typing a letter. Oh well, we can always use more crap to allow people waste their hard earned money on; god forbid you buy a fully functional and likely superior keyboard on sale for less then 40 bucks at office max and put the rest in the bank.
- kefler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Personally I LOVE using laptop keyboards.. I find that the short key movement saves my fingers from any pain, and I can type a lot faster that way.
- jonnyboy88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Does anyone know what kind of key technology it will use?
-Rubber membrane?
-Capacitor?
-Buckling spring? - Pests, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Its a blog...
- V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Stop giving these optimus jerks air time; there is and will not be this keyboard ever (by them).
- Pests, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'd like you to go post a new thread on their blog then.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This thing doesn't exist. It's all just a big joke.
