- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31It's "OLED" not "LED"
- ThinkBox, on 11/11/2007, -4/+32Funny how the most dugg story of the year is obviously innacurate now.
- dan4prez, on 11/11/2007, -5/+24Most dugg story of the year was false...HAHA
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Damn, they should offer pre-orders, they could have made enough to have gotten into production by now.
I'm pretty sure if I bought one of these, it'd be the last keyboard I ever bought (well, maybe. there was a really cool prototype keyboard with rearrangable keys, I'd buy one of those just for the hell of it). It'd definitely have a spot on my desk for year and years to come.
I can't wait until the SDK gets released either. Imagine keys that played a little splash animation when you pressed it, or the colors of your keys changing to ambiently match the light put out by your monitor. The possibilites are endless. - TJ229ER, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Ummm so where do I order it then?
- FreakTrap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16"I would totally pre-order it the second it came out.."
If it was all ready out, why would you pre-order it? - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Why are people still digging this story?
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"How much!"
ITFA: "It'll cost as much as a good mobile phone". So anywhere between $100 and $300, depending if you're talking RAZR/Treo good or LG good. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15The site reads "Release date: 14.07.2005"; and another part of it reads "End of 2006". A good product is all about attention to detail. Their site has fickle information. With that said, so will the product.
- billflu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Everyone should now un-digg this story... I know I did.
- Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10am i the only one who thought optimus keyboard would be a keyboard capable of leading autobots aganist the decpeticons?
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"It'd be really cool if they opened it up so you could program it yourself..."
LOL It'd be really cool if you RFTA:
It’s in the initial stage of production.
It will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available.
It will be OS-independent (at least it’s going to be able to work in some default state with any OS).
It will support any language or layout
Each key could be programmed to produce any sequence.
BOLD::: It will cost less than a good mobile phone. :::END BOLD - billflu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They chopped off some of the keys, made the whole thing black and white, pushed the release date to over a year from originally planned, and jacked the price to $1,200. You still digg?
- mkjones, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Finally. I really thought this was gonna fade and die like so many other great ideas.
- jhatcher16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ok...so who dugg this story just because of DiggNation :P
- Floris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This sounds like the duke-nukem forever ware to me. I really hope they can realize this 100% as intended and have a super cool keyboard fro the leet.
- glenneroo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5prolly because its on the TOP DIGGS OF THE YEAR list?
- aknowles5139, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So uhh.... its a little past February... I was looking froward to this keyboard... i just hope it comes out PERIOD.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Only on digg would people complain about a product that they havent ever used.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Finally,
http://digg.com/tech_news/Optimus_Keyboard_Launch_Date - Tkkt, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10I'm going to set up the custom buttons to launch diff kinds of porn.
Butthole pleasures at the push of a button! - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought it was an error at first. Just comes to tell you how much people want that bad boy of a keyboard.
- TitaniumSniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the 3 key version costs $150 so a 100 key could be $5000 at $50 per key
- greymonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If it's less than 2 months away from release, why do they still only have photoshop images instead of actual shots?
- tcomputerchip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story is inaccurate, the idea was stolen from a patent filed more than a decade ago. If anything they have paid for the patent and are using it or being sued.
I have seen the original patent more than 2 years before the product was even release on that site. And, it was from the person who invented it. Not some bogus site claiming they have made the first LED keyboard. - oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its 2007 now, i'm still using my Saitek Eclipse. =[ I want my OLED's.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7How much!
- afbase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is the first thing on my Christmas list
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What can a person tell from a photo? The keys look like they'll be smushy to me.

Optimus-113 Pricing
I know that many people are trying to guess or calculate the price for the upcoming Optimus-113 ('big') keyboard.
Some went as far as dividing the 160 US$ price tag for the mini three by three and multiplying it by at least 100 to get the figure. Well, they're wrong. Mini keyboard actually uses very large keys about the area of four keys of a standard keyboard. Optimus-113 will use smaller screens with a resolution of a standard icon on a desktop - 32x32 pixels.
The price for the shipping unit remains withing range of a good mobile phone (but not $20,000 or $5,000 as some people may think after shopping for another Vertu).
And we had to make one very important decision during the engineering: we will not use OLED screens for the Optimus-113.
Another important thing: all keys will be replaceable.[/quote] - AndyVenus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.firefreak.net
- SirBotchness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will be finished when it is finished! Also comes packaged in a bigfoot fur box.
This is a cool idea, but by the quake3 buttons in the picture it will only be a matter of time before its out. That game is BOSS. - mucha7012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So now its the end of '06 and its still not out. But they said they will start taking pre-orders for the item. It should release next year. I have been waiting for this keyboard for a long time.
- digid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5This keyboard concept is already patented in the USA by another individual. US Patent 5,818,361
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5,818,361.WKU.&OS=PN/5,818,361&RS=PN/5,818,361
This pictures on the Optimus site are computer models. They are not the actual product. I doubt this product is going to be released February 1 in the US. - aphexmandelbrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They sell the 3-key prototype on ThinkGeek - it was the first time I had heard about this in several months.
Just an FYI for you. - inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1http://1stperfume.fryoutune.com/ good find
- optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do professional photography and I the best thing is not a keyboard with little lame lights; it's my 9x12 intuos writing tablet. It's the best $400 I've ever spent and it allows me to edit like no other. I processed these photos:
http://www.gavinphotography.com/galleries/irenejimmy/
down from 700 images and then adjusted color levels, applied b&w and sepia, and exported it to the web and full rez copies in 1 1/2 hours. This was done while BARELY touching my keyboard.
Trust me, if you do any PS, editing, or 3D, get a tablet. - skell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I totally forgot that I dugg it. Undugg until I see it on the shelves.
- nowisee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hear its going to be bundled with Duke Nukem Forever
- Kyoushu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The 3-key version also has alot bigger keys. You can probably assume that each key will be around 20-30(according to size difference), making the overall price 2000-3000.
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3feb 1st. lol.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now that they have the code worked out it will go a lot faster
- Yang1205, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm guessing by the pictures its wireless. I think that would be awesome looking at the fonts change on your keyboard. I do have some more questions that aren't answered on the FAQ.
For one, are there any other ports the keyboard needs to hook up to besides the standard one? maybe USB also? and of course How much does it cost? And will i have to download a driver for each program/game that I am running or is it automatic? - LoneStar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2hah too bad it didnt release
- jervana, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2this sh*t ain't coming out. nearly four months later and nothing.
- jwa131, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Any keyboard that shares the same name with my favorite Transformer...priceless. :D
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well its august... and the mini-three is available for pre order (the first lot is already sold out).
as for the keyboard - what most people REALLY want: "We hope it will be released in 2006." - straight from the answers section. i think we hope it will be too, though i doubt it since the mini 3 was delayed by 6 months.
some easy math: 104 keys/3 keys = ~35, 35 * 6 months = 210 months, 210 / 12 years = 17.5 years left till we get it :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ther three ket keyboard looks good. ill set one up with every windows systen in my company
ctrl+alt+del - Craig1394, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'd sell out my family to get one of those!
- psychospam90, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't wait until this comes out, I do need a new keyboard, too...
