(and yet, their still more expensive then other brands!) That being said, although I see a lot of macs in the cafe's close to the business studies classes, they don't have the majority in the comp sci lectures that Ive noticed. (some like the mac's, but Ive noticed more prefer to run run and muck around with Linux distros). This year ive seen a lot more of the asus and dells that have the coloured casings around the place, image is everything! ;)

      Eventually, technology will make people so stupid, they won't be able to spell their own name. It's also been proven that writing notes by hand makes it easier to learn than if you use a computer. I wish I could watch that class write their finals by hand and see how all those damn mac users do.

Taking notes in a notebook does make me think more about what I am writing, but since it's in a notebook, usually I am less inclined to actually re-read them. On a computer, I think much less about what I am typing, although since I use my computer on a regular basis, I tend to look at the notes more often. I do love the look of a full sheet of college rule filled with handwritten notes, though.

      I bought 2 pens for like 3-4 dollars they are quite comfortable and i dont get hand cramps.

      When you but a pen make sure to get ones that are nicely designed don't go for the 20 for a $1 sale

        TheWindBlows is right - spend the money on a good pen and your hands will be fine. Fountain pens require almost no pressure to use, helping your wrists last all day. (They'll render carbon-copy paper useless, but that's just funny)
        Buy yourself a LAMY Vista or Safari pen for ~25 bucks and fill it off a bottle of ink (10-15 dollars). One bottle will last for two semesters, so you're probably spending less on pens overall and saving the environment by not using disposables. People will be impressed by the fountain pen, and your wrists can last all day... until you need to type an essay.

It works and it is fast and flexible.It has weaknesses but if you need to create a record of an experience like a lecture, whether written or graphic, it is hard to beat it. A computer is about the worst option unless you use it to record video...but I find a camcorder better for that. Try getting an ER doctor to use an electronic device. Pen and paper will be replaced but we are not there yet.

However, in the humanities classes I've taken you see many more people with them out (usually browsing facebook, etc.). Not only is it faster, easier and more understandable to take math-related notes on paper, but engineering and science majors realize that if they're going to goof off it's a lot easier to just skip class.

But when I got to uni, I found that it wasn't really needed and the people who did bring laptops just played solitare or surfed the web during the lectures.

It's a distraction for them and the people around them (since most don't have a laptop). I see no benefit to using it in class.
