- FarcicalFart, on 08/01/2008, -0/+72Radeon HD 4850, great performance vs. price ratio.
- DeFex, on 08/02/2008, -0/+709 is the new 8
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -3/+45I'm still waiting for a game that will tax my out of date 8800GTX SLI rig. 9500 sounds great for a budget gamer.
- Armor1901, on 08/02/2008, -2/+42HD4850 FTW...can't beat the price/performance
- MacBookForMe, on 08/01/2008, -12/+49New computer games need an amazing computational power to shine and fly...
- da_bradler, on 08/02/2008, -1/+374850 going for as little as $160 if you shop around and don't mind a mail in rebate. I've seen them blowing out old 9800GTX(without the +)stock for $140 dollars though, which has just a little under the same performance as the 4850
don't waste your money on a 9600gt or 8800Gts or ati 3850 or 3870 though, those are still going for 200ish but there last gen technology and not worth it unless they are in the sub 100 dollar range. Buying a graphics card can be tricky at times since they normally don't reduce prices on out of date cards, they just wait for some poor sap to buy them.
Nvidia 8800gt 9800gt, 9800GTX,ATI 4850, 9800GTX+ GTX 260, ATI 4870 GTX 280
these are the only cards you should be looking at from 100 dollars to 450. going in order from slowest to fastest(although very close between some). - sparkey182, on 08/02/2008, -0/+344850 agreed
- benplaut, on 08/02/2008, -0/+33*woosh*
- andypop481, on 08/01/2008, -0/+29Question for diggers: Best performing card on the market right now for under $230. I'm putting my first computer together and its the one thing i'm just not educated enough on the subject to make a good decision.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -3/+31Either a Radeon HD 4850 for $175 or save up a bit more ($285) for a Geforce 9800 GX2
- GlitchEnzo, on 08/01/2008, -0/+23The 9500 is pretty much just an 8600 that costs twice as much. I wouldn't call it good for the budget gamer.
- annjay, on 08/01/2008, -1/+23I like the way of discussing this topic
- themusicalduck, on 08/02/2008, -3/+25Computers can run Crysis now?
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -4/+26I wonder if those can handle Half Life.
- Mahoney07, on 08/02/2008, -2/+22You should play Crysis some time.
- Mahoney07, on 08/02/2008, -0/+18Why does the 9800GT have the same specs as the 8800GT?
- Dylson, on 08/02/2008, -0/+18I'm happy with my 9600GT. However, if I had to upgrade I would choose the ATI 4870. The thing has 800 damn stream processors for ***** sakes and uses GDDR5 memory.
- nitesoIja, on 08/01/2008, -2/+19no ***** mr macbookforyou
- Mahoney07, on 08/02/2008, -0/+17Crysis all max settings 1600x1200 will tax your system.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -4/+21My 8000KB super VGA card has always worked fine for me...
- andypop481, on 08/02/2008, -0/+16*tear* the digg community....... Thanks everyone!
- Nore, on 08/01/2008, -2/+18Like Crysis?
- davidjunit, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1532 stream processors, 128bit memory; how is this better than the cards that now are dirt cheap? Same old crap, different month.
- OJXs, on 08/02/2008, -1/+16The 9800GT is a renamed 8800GT
the 9500GT is a renamed 8600GT for more $$
even the 9800GTX is a renamed 8800GTX or GTS forget which one
How is this a newsworthy article digg? - MacSuxWindozSux, on 08/02/2008, -0/+14But does it support 24bit "TrueColor"?
And will it run Duke Nukem 3D at 640x480? - mkamal, on 08/02/2008, -1/+15Ofcourse it will, IT'S OVER 9000
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -2/+16www.tomshardware.com is a great site for benchmarking and unbiased reviews ........ and you can troll their forums for very in depth details..
All of those high end cards are good though... i'm waiting to see some 4870 X2 benchmarks .. that sounds like an awsome card...... - inactive, on 08/02/2008, -0/+13I'll take your word for it. I only do my research when it's time for me to build my new "ultimate" machine. Sadly, that doesn't last long the way they come out with the "latest & greatest".
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -1/+14I like turtles
- Dylson, on 08/02/2008, -0/+12Surprisingly yes. I would really like to see ATI make a good comeback seeing as how they have been doing pretty bad lately.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -0/+12The 9800's will on high settings
- kevro, on 08/02/2008, -0/+11"super" VGA sounds sweet. I'm getting tired of 4 colour CGA
- dha07030, on 08/02/2008, -0/+11No... now the hd4850 on the other hand.
- Murdats, on 08/02/2008, -0/+11try updating them some time, I have been running an 8800gtx for ages on vista without a problem
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -2/+12Nah, my 8800GTX runs it fine, but when I kick it in SLI then I can MAX it out and get great FPS too.
- GlitchEnzo, on 08/01/2008, -0/+10A 9800 GT for $140 sounds like a pretty good deal. Although the 8800 GT is $130. Depends upon if you think HybridPower is worth $10.
- Wartz, on 08/02/2008, -0/+10the heat is an easy fix. Just create a profile in CCC, edit its XML config file and increase your fan speed to 35% or so. Dropped my temps from 78-84c to 48-55c
- bigt8dogg, on 08/02/2008, -1/+11Every bullet fired in the game leaves a permanent hole somewhere in the map. I read an article once, and one of the developers of CryEngine2 was quoted as saying "Each tree has more AI in it than the ENTIRE original CryEngine." And mentioned something about "MENSA-smart trees".
I've played it several times. It's the only game I've finished and then started playing immediately again, not to mention 5 times in a row. It's just awesome. Looking forward to Crysis 2. - antdude, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9CrYsis
- Tenoq, on 08/02/2008, -1/+10DeathWish808 - must be nice have an old 12" monitor at 800x600, eh?
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -3/+12power so much power, i must game!
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -1/+10I do and the 8800Gt will max it nicely at HD resolutions at 30fps. 720p is doable at that framerate, anything else not so much, but still its TeH HIGH DEFISIONZ!!!
- suprxtragrav, on 12/09/2008, -0/+9ermm, you just zinged yourself.
Enjoy your Built-in Radeon HD2400! - RyanBlack, on 08/02/2008, -2/+11What's the big deal with Crysis besides nice graphics?...
- da_bradler, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9well that's not really the competition.
it's the HD4870 vs. GTX260
or the HD4850 vs. 9800GTX+
both matchups are fairly even and it really depends on the game which will win.
The Nvidia cards have a higher base price, but Nvidia card makers have really aggressive sales so normally if you look around a bit you can find one for cheaper then it's ATI counter part. ATI doesn't really have heavy sales but still you can catch cards 10-20 bucks off and maybe with a free game. - DarkShroud, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9It's also smaller and uses less power than the Nvidia cards.
- Mohdoo, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9And so it was done. The 9800GT is officially the most pointless release yet.
- OJXs, on 08/02/2008, -1/+9HD4870>GTX260>HD4850>9800GTX+
9800GT = 8800GT with a different name
the HD4850 is about 15-20% faster - KMartSheriff, on 08/02/2008, -1/+9That's so stupid. I HATE their numbering scheme. Make higher numbers = better cards. 9800 should be better than a 8800. 9600 should be better than a 9600. And what's up with GT, GTX, GT+, GT *****?
