- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3LMAO, Google just became my favorite company for bashing "Wally World".

What's funny is, that this particular story would'nt even be here if it weren't for a different story on digg, that talked about Google PC's at Wal-Mart, when it was all just predictions, and speculations, yet, the poster made it look like it was a real plan because of lack of research.
Now, that is what needs to be monitored. (although, bad spelling and typo's do bug me).
And also, that "other story", got a LOT of digg's. Now the people who dugg it, are making fun of Wal-Mart, when before, they liked the idea. Why? Because the description TOLD them to like it.
80% of digg readers are bandwagoners with no thoughts for themselves. (well, 80% of the country).
It's a lack of self confidence that makes it this way. Most of us like what popular culture tells us to like. We make fun of stuff too look cool, so we can feel better about ourselves, because it makes us feel normal.
This country is a dysfunctional mess. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The quote about partnering with great companies is obviously being taken way, way out of context.
They are saying that, rather than manufacturing their own computer, they would like to partner with companies that could manufacture them. - pinac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's a question I'd love to have answered with some sort of authority. What kind of computer sits on 90% of google employees' desktops??? I can't imagine Brin and Page settling for paying license fees to apple or MS when they're whole MO is "roll your own."
- INHUMANITY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dozens of companies have made these "dumb" computers and all have tanked. I really hope they don't actually go through with it running a proprietary OS. I can imagine people getting these "computers" and eventually wanting to use digital camera's, MP3's, and other stuff it may not support.
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good god, can't you people read? This was not a slam on Wal-Mart. Christ I swear to god most of Digg's audience is blind and legally retarded.
- thefezman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google: 1, Wally World: 0
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hoax 1 Digg 0 :(
Now my theory on guys that are paid by google to release hoaxes and do viral marketing is gaining momentum. Think that story alone reached 1000+ diggs. - baddmojoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1heh, I don't want to know how you "arse" somebody.
- Billistic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Think they're going to team up with a company that's insanely great!!!!!!!!!????????????? APPOOGLE WOOF WOOF!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the google mac.
- ceekay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1morons. I could have told you that. Did you actually RTFA that http://digg.com/deals/Google_PC_ linked to?
They also predicted Steve Jobs would become the chairman of Disney (among other sensational predictions the LA times thought would bring in ad-banner revenue.) How did the poster pass that over as a possible digg gem? Mentioning something about google and apple in the same post? That's 2x the standard number of diggs right there.
You know that is horrible when the person who POSTS the story doesn't read the whole article. Then again, I guess that's the price you pay for bringing the power to the people. Some people are morons. - rusty_g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"LMAO, Google just became my favorite company for bashing "Wally World"." - trunkster
thank you, you were reading my mind.. - tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"We would rather partner with great companies."
Sorry Wal-Mart! XD - emiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting how the article linked covers the denial (I have no trouble believing it either, as I don't think google is too interested in partnering with Wal Mart) but goes on to cover other rumors about google pc type things. Seems like everyone really wants to see a google computer.
- Soulraven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, i thought this story was bad, then i saw the idiotic comments.(inc mine)
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
What ads? ** using thumb to point to 'CustomizeGoogle' Firefox ext. **
But I do applaude Google for telling Wallmart how it is. :)
"Big Box Mart" (a good poke at Wallmart)

Nice - karch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahahahahhaa, i just "OOH, OUCH"'d the second i finished reading the blurb. haha, i love you mr. google
- tetfsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm digging this not because it's earth shattering or that I even think google or walmart are "good" or "evil". I'm digging it because someone from a company not even in the fortune 500 (Google is 541) company actually went on record and said "We would rather partner with great companies." about the #1 Fortune Company. Talk about a kick in the "Faded Glorys".

+Digg - crispytown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The complete idea was lame. They still have problems with their search sites. I get more HTML errors from their sites then a MS site. Poor quality control on their end. To bad for them that they can't even write a W3C standard website. But making a pc... well that would make them the next dell. Which is crap now-a-days.
- jls777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That statement made the worst economic sense that I have ever heard of!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apparently, Wal-Mart is the greatest company in the country. They're at the VERY TOP of the Fortune 500, after all.
But if it's about credibility/morals/ethics/goodness, and many other things, then no, they're lousy.
Google WOULD look bad to affiliate themselves, of course. - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't need a cheap PC anyway. Now what really interests me is that Google Cube they talk about later in the article. That'd be worth paying for.
- halophoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm actually kind of glad this sets the record straight!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hate to say it, but told you so!
Whoever posted the original story should be banned from digg.
WalMart and Google? How about Apple and Microsoft joining forces then, it seems just as likely. - MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0haha who does google think they are. rofl
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I dont' like Wal-Mart. I love Google. I would be torn anyway. ;)
- soccerob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that's a shame, i'd probably buy one just b/c it's google.

What did I tell you guys? ;) - werns, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No Google Wal-Mart PC, _SAY_ Both
There really should be someone at Digg whose job it is to make sure at least titles are free of spelling and grammatical errors, seeing as the folk who post the stories obviously can't be arsed to check. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0HOW SURPRISING. LIKE WOW, I REALLY THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE. Sorry I'm such an asshat :)
- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2werns, who the F*** cares? NO ONE... If you understand it enough to correct it then its fine.

Perhaps it is referring to a Mr. or Ms. Both. :p - tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Kinda reminds me of the time I walked into the wrong room at Walmart and they were training international assassins.
