- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+173how about saving yourself 2500 bucks and walking a measly mile...
- grinch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+161i could get one of these to drive to and from my mailbox..
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -5/+101Have you seen the prices of water recently??!?! we just don't get enough MPG from water to economically justify walking that far.
- dh8r, on 10/12/2007, -8/+97Steering wheels, engine, brakes, headlights, transmission, and seats optional.
- topgun553, on 10/12/2007, -3/+86Finally my saturn will have more horsepower than another car
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -12/+88Your $3,000 could buy you a used Honda Civic that won't implode when you're sideswiped by a grocery cart.
- ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -3/+78i really do NOT like compact cars but with gas hitting 4$ a gallon this summer i think its time to lose the jeep
- speezer, on 10/29/2007, -0/+75When it runs out of gas you can just throw it away.
- DontEatTheFish, on 10/12/2007, -11/+81if its anything like the 350Z, I'm sold.
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -7/+72this thing isn't made for americans. I don't know how many people realize it, but most people in the world don't need cars as big as an SUV. most americans don't either. most countries are very cramped in terms of space, they need a small, not fast (by american standards) car like this. I'm sure they laugh when they see the huge SUVs that most of us drive.
- l337phoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+67doood, you can get a whole team of these cars to pull a camper when you go camping...
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -4/+68Or get a bicycle for like 20$.. your one mile commute will take several minutes. Environment and body friendly.
Who needs a car? - Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59Hmm...33hp. I wonder how that would fare up steep hills and such.
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -18/+69A 3000 dollar car is nice, but that doesn't do anything about insurance prices. Especially if you're a young male (as I suspect most diggers are). Anyways, nothing Nissan can do about it!
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51Okay that's cheaper than a top of the line computer rig. There's something odd about that.
- SourWorm, on 10/29/2007, -2/+45Should be light enough to get a push from that friendly SUV flying up the road behind you.
- Raidenwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45Tata's model is a four door
Well with a name like Tata it would do very well in america We are already used to paying $3000.00 for boob jobs. :) - DevilDunkard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42They already have a car under 2,500 dollars. its called the 87 Nissan Hardbody truck. I have a friend with one and it wont die. It has 250,000 miles and still runs good. But we think draws power from the dark side.
- Triffid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35"That isn't going to be embarrasing to drive at all..."
ya... if you use your car as a status symbol, that may be part of your problem - ROFLance, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37What's with all these "This car will only drive for 1 mile and run out of gas" *****.. nowhere in the article does it say it runs out of gas quickly, but rather that it's likely to be fuel efficient. You diggers are weird.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39$3000 will not buy you a used Civic. No ***** way. Those care are about $22,000 new, and they hold their value. Yeah, you can get a Civic for $3000, if it was made before 1992 with over 150,000 miles on it.
- Thermopylae, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Woah, this would be an awesome idea.
Props to Nissan! - Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30A bigscreen TV, or a car..
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30But... I'll buy it. In a second. I live in a hill-less city, have limited income, and could deal happily with a 33HP engine getting good gas mileage.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32@codyman Unfortunately, if you don't live in a city, you pretty much have to drive to work, even a mile away, lest you be killed walking aside a 60 mph freeway or unless you have the ability to fly over several rows of fences.
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30I borrowed a Jeep while my car was in the shop. I needed to gas the damned thing up every other day.
- Egoist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28I remember a job I had a few years ago that I was able to ride to on a bike. I didn't do it to be enviromentally friendly or because traffic was bad, but that little bit of exercise in the morning really gave me a lot of energy for the day. It's amazing how much a little sweat in the morning will improve your whole day.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29The VW Beetle was originally 36hp... for comparison, and we're talkin about the old 50s split window.
- Buckiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Not likely to release in America?
- DextaRussell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Put put
- dudemanbro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29I think I can I think I can I think I can etc
- sparkysko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26+1 for darkside comment
-1,000,000 for pointing out that used cars can cost less than new cars. - haileris23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27@ganjadude4391
$4 a gallon? Wow, you should try living in England for a while...we're on 93p/$1.86 a litre! By my calculations that puts us at just over $7.00 p/gallon at the moment...ouch. - sparkysko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21uh, 4k in 1986 dollars ain't anywhere near 3k in 2007 dollars. According to the consumer price index 4k would be about 8k in 2007 dollars.
- heiroglyph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22That isn't it. Nissan isn't making it yet.
That is a Cherry QQ. - HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24I'd drop a motorcycle engine in it. Get an extra 50HP and still get 40+mpg. And it'd boost that top speed too.
- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20knowing how much horsepower is useless without knowing the weight, it could be made out of carbon nano-tubes (unlikely) and weigh about the same as a push bike... (in which case 33hp is overkill ;)
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23This car as one third as much horsepower than a Yaris. It couldn't climb a hill in San Francisco unless there was a truck with a winch at the top. Chance of sale in North America = zero.
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21That's good advice. The wife wanted to upgrade the house. I said fine, just find a place within walking distance to work. My commute still takes about 25 min but I'm walking instead of stuck in traffic.
- HoosbinPharteen, on 10/29/2007, -1/+18kinda like printers eh?
It's about time the auto industry does something interesting. Concept cars and dreams of 100mpg are lame. They need to produce ***** we need now. - sparkysko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22$3,000 won't buy you a decent civic. Searching by craigslist, the majority of used civics under 3,001$ are 1992 or older. A small percentage are as new as 1995. Don't buy a car that's 15 years old unless you want to make fixing it your new hobby.
- rhfb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2121st Century Model T? I would buy one of these if they came out in America.
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19omg you UK citizens are so poor
lets see
$4 a gallon/$5.15 federal minimum wage in US = 77% of one hour of work to pay for a gallon of gas
$7 a gallon/$11 minimum wage in UK = 63% of on hour of work to pay for gallon of gas
so, while you UK people might pay a little more for gas, you also get payed more. so stop bitching :P - fefu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I'm a woman. I drove a car for ten years with a manual transmission and no power steering. My mom and my best friend (female) borrowed it when they needed it.
Don't be ignorant. Unless you're very ill, no one, man or woman, would have trouble driving a car without power steering. Yes, men are in general stronger than women, but you're DRIVING, not picking the damn thing up. - neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"It's amazing how much a little sweat in the morning will improve your whole day."
It also keeps co-workers away so you are more productive too! - ChiefSpoonS, on 10/29/2007, -6/+21"The automaker claims it will even pass a crash test."
Oh that makes me want to buy it - captjc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18looks fine to me
- ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I think they'd be great for getting around town, to and from class, to and from work if you work in an office w/in 25 miles. Sounds like a great idea. With our modern technology it shouldn't be that hard to make a dirt cheap car. The tech of building the motor has been mostly the same for around 100 years!
- m0n3y, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17@haileris23
I totally agree. I wish more Americans realized how cheap our gasoline is compared to Asian and European prices. I see a lot of SUVs in my neck of the woods, and most people are sipping a Starbucks on their commute (which, by the way, costs $32/gallon).
Maybe I'm just tired of all the complaining from the top 3% wealthiest people in the world. =/ - okcdude72, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Man can you imagine if a American car company tried this. They cant even make a good car for $20,000.
This would be sweet. I think it will be my only chance to walk into a car dealership and say, I LIKE IT, IL TAKE TWO. -
