- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"This board is simply awesome for the price. As of writing this, it is going for $145 at Newegg. Not the cheapest in the world, but far from the $300 and $400 prices we have seen on the nForce 680i series." frgmstr...I wish you put the price in the description.

I personally like the EVGA board, but that is just because I am such a big fan of the company. $250, stable, and very overclockable.

I have never had anything but reliability problems with ASSUS. I never had a board from them last longer then 6 months. And I've owned four of them.

it comes with the heatsink and fan...and a pcmcia slot...
as i said, i would hope they would be familiar with their product. it's not that difficult a concept. - mhemu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After doing some searching I decided to cancel my order for a 680 EVGA board. I then looked at the 650 but saw similar issues. There are numerous issues with both these chipsets that have not been addressed yet. Buyer beware. Head on over to www.evga.com and hit up the mobo forums, or the same from asus, and read the horror stories which include fried ram, constant drive corruption, and a possible hardware problem with the ps2 ports.
- frgmstr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The EVGA is looking to be a great board, even though there have been some struggles to overcome, but when it comes down to bang for the buck, the 650i is going to be hard to argue with from a budget perspective.
I am going to do a personal build here in the next few weeks and I will likely go with a 680i if we continue to see it SATA problems stay away. - frgmstr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is a good mobo and a great chipset that should be very stable for you. No buyers remorse there.
- WarMace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is good news for those holding out for overclocking, too bad it has to be something with an Asus warranty.
Plus its not using a heatpipe, so that is nice for those who wish to watercool the northbridge without cutting. - afruff23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought the Asus P5B-E (P965 chipset) recently from newegg.com for $153. Did I make a mistake?
- UKeTommyV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not good enough , SLI MODE only 8x and 8x instead of full 16x and 16x . i mean another video card down the road is essential now a days.
- Staticreator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that's crazy, that's my motherboard.
I picked it because it was cheap and had lots of nifty stuff. Works great too. Ice cold. - endgame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have this exact board currently & it's FAN EFFING TASTIC! I'm running it with the following config & I have had no issues at all.
Using board since: 12/23
E6600 OC'd @ 3.1 Ghz
2 GB DDR2 RAM (800Mhz)
2 SATA HDD (NON Raid)
550 Watt PSU
BFG 7950 Gforce Card OC'd @ 550 Mhz
System stays VERY COOL
Core 2 @ 39 C
GPU @ 42 C
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the cooling on the 650i board doesn't seem to be very good. You could buy some cheap 40mm fans for it I guess, but then what's the advantage, other than dual IDE ports, compared to just getting a cheaper p965 board? If it had better cooling, I'd be sold.
- endgame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm using the AC cooler

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have the eVGA one. I've been very happy with it except for the network adapter, which didn't work at all out of the box. Turns out in order to get it to work I needed to install the network adapter drivers FIRST, then reboot and install the other drivers. After that it worked fine, although I get a myriad of errors when trying to install Ubuntu 6.06.
- frgmstr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can look at this thread for the mobo's that are really showing off when it comes to overclocking the Core 2 Duo.

Lots of good information in that thread from the HardForum community. - Visk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What sort of cooling are you using on your E6600?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice, looking to go dualcore, this might be the board for me
- maniacripper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Asus A8N-SLI
I've had my a8n-sli running an opteron 165 at 2.6ghz on air no problem - willh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Still waiting for Part two of Tom's roundup, supposedly coming in a week of so
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/12/21/680i-motherboard-comparison/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Damn, I just built a computer on a 570 chipset :(
- liloconf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1First if it was DOA then why did you rma it to ASUS instead of just returning it to the place you bought it at?
Second, Last I checked most boards don't have PCMCIA slots on them, which is probably why ASUS tech support thought you were on crack....
Oh and your cpu fan didn't come with the board, so why is it ASUS's fault that your cheap off brand fan died?
picnic bitch... - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4i've haven't had a good history with asus products and i find their support to be...well, lacking.
I had a barebones HTPC from them....was DOA. It took me about a year to get the damn thing RMA'd due to a total lack of support and communication on their end.
Once I did get the darn thing RMA'd - the motherboard I received had a damaged PCMCIA slot. Luckily, I was able to swap parts. I e-mailed them and they suggested that it wasn't even possible - How great that their support department didn't know jack about the product they were dealing with.
The new board was received by me about 3-4 months ago, and guess what just happened about a month ago? The CPU fan died. I didn't even bother contacting ASUS.
***** ASUS in the ASSUS.
