- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I can't believe our soldiers are going to become a bunch of cheating wallhackers. What's next, aimbots? Does the DOD have no shame?
- patmfitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately it detects only good-looking terrorists since it uses stud-finder technology.

a link to the actual device instead of some crappy blog - valen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When is this new gadget scheduled to be implemented in the America's Army game?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aluminum foil is going to be banned in the future, because it stops ALL this new fancy-ass tech. RFIDs, radars, bugs, microwave-based non-lethal weapons, EMP pulses., etc.
You laughed at Aluminum hats, but now they are the only things that will safe your life! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Next up, terrorists tape wire mesh to walls in order to foil US military device....
- empty01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"you're an idiot. you shouldn't say sh*t about guys out there giving their lives up for your way of life. any edge that a soldier can get on the battlefield is a necessity and is priceless. put your a$$ out there in the urban field and we'll see how long before you beg to have one of these gadgets. power-ups don't exist in reality..." can't we have one comment session without political *****. Obviously you were brainwashed through boot camp. No one has given up their life for my way of life since WW2. The war is about money for people that are rich not about protecting freedom or bringing freedom to Iraq. I've heard people say that the Iraqi children that the US killed because they were worried about bombers were the casualties of war. The Iraqi civilians didn't attack us and neither did the Iraqi military, we attacked them because our president has ties to a company that makes alot of money off wars in the middle east. I had a friend who got hit in his tank and had his organs rattled loose go back out because he believes this *****. Don't you dare say this war or any since WW2 (and even then barely) is about freedom. Almost all wars after the signing the declaration were in one extent or another about profiteering by those who don't risk their lives. And yes I recognize the political nature of this rant.
As far as the device goes, if the enemy ever gets their hands on a radar receiver they can just wire up a bomb in empty buildings so when our troops go in they don't leave. That's a big if but one that could potentially take lives. - DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's like the F Ray on Futurama. : "Ouch! My Sperm!"
- Vladk1000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lol, someone's probably going to invent god mode next.

- jpbleuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0article rather not device
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I want one! I mean if it can see through 12 inches of concrete, then I'm sure it could see through clothes no problem :-P"
What part of RADAR don't you understand? - cplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its almost useless in Iraq. In Iraq they need to who the good and bad guys are -- not if there is somebody there.
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also, cplusplus, you make an excellent point. The future of warfair will only become more anonymous. Unless one is really sure who they will find on the other side, is it safe to assume it is an enemy.
- Carnixx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want one! I mean if it can see through 12 inches of concrete, then I'm sure it could see through clothes no problem :-P
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, if it can detect someone breathing, how often does it return false positives? It seems like a mouse eating a piece of cheese is liable to be blown to shreds if they trust this device...
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy Crap!!! That is freggin' awesome!!
I wish I could have one!!!
Diggidy Diggidy Diggidy Digg! - mercnboy3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg += 1
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0" Unfortunately it detects only good-looking terrorists since it uses stud-finder technology. "
hahahaha - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's no spying involved... it simply detects movement. Whether it's a cooling fan, a dog, a bird just outside the window, or a person the thing will just say that there is movement and that the soldiers need to be careful.
- FAT_PIGGY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ nihilator that's already happening with the depleted uranium they use in the tank rounds and in the bombs we drop.
- TyRaNNOus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thats ***** especially for the counter culture people like me.
What America needs is a lower prison population since it has the seconde highest in the world. Devices like these are used to arrest people like me who don't harm others and obide by the law.
This device will most likely be used by the DEA and other orgs to spy on people like me good thing i'm Canadian. *hits bong* - nihilator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And years from now, the soldiers may develop brain cancer or become infertile from being so close to the waves.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As the above said. This doesn't see though walls at all, just senses motion.
- dumbwhiteguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG HAX
- AKron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a neat device. If a terrorist gets a detection on their anti-wall radar device they can scan the wall to see exactly where to shoot, and hit the person who's scanning their wall on the other side. Good idea!
-AK - j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** wall hackers.
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that's creepy...
8-/ - julian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any agnecy that conducts raids should have this....
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is one step closer to the "heartbeat sensor" in Rainbow Six... how awesome!
- Wolfman~K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0havn't all the tom clancy games had this for years???
- yesukai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as for the seeing through walls...
when I was working in a camera shop I got to talking with a guy about infrared cameras. Turns out he actually helped work on some when the company he was with was contracting with the government. They have some pretty sophisticated cameras, that even use computers to color the image correctly, so it looks like a picture through a crappy digital camera, but still good enough to see who you are through a wall. I would assume it uses multiple frequencies to get a more complete picture.
anyhow, this motion detectors is cool enough. hope it helps keep our guys alive. - pumkinut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember reading about this when I was still in school at NC State. It's from a company call Time Domain ( http://www.timedomain.com/products/thruwallradar.html ) who have seemingly spun off a subsidiary RadarVision ( http://www.radarvision.com/ ). It uses ultra wideband (UWB) RF to "see" through solid objects. It's very similar to RADAR, but uses a very wideband signal for transmission and extrapolates the return signal from the noise. It's actually very cool tech.
- Draconiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ pacificdave
ever heard of sarcasm? - pumkinut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Update:
Here's a mpg of the unit in operation. It seems very much like the motion detectors in Aliens.
http://www.radarvision.com/Video/SV2_TD.mpg - clarketc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would hate to be an insurgent fighting against this stuff.
- wooILL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"is this that angel light thing that guy who made the bear suit created? isnt this really harmful to humans if its ..."rays" hits them? they say nothing on HOW it works.... lets the deadly spying start!"
yea, that's what i was thinking about when i read the title, that thing can actually make the objects transparent.. but unfortunately this article is not about that :/
it would have been awesome if they were able to control that technology - TheDarkTipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Solid Snake's radar is way better. It senses motion through the whole room. This sux.
- cwcentral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out "Michelson Interferometer", you'll learn about how it really works. This techs been around for 10 years (really!).
I know someone who works @Time Domain, they been trying to market this stuff (for national & international customers) for the last 5 years. - TCDToxic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From article comments:

>wow- i bet this could find the studs in the wall so i can hang that tv...
Yeah forget the stud finders designed to do that job, lest spen 1000$ on something that wouldn't work (cause incase you didn't know wall-studs don't move around that much...)

http://www.TopNotchCarpentry.com - VeritasAequitas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is an awesome tool for our guys over there. I have a ton of friends in Iraq and just home from, as well as a couple about to re-deploy. Also some of you need to stop playing so many video games and watching bad action movies. Or at least realize that this isn't a toy that they are going to use to shoot through walls at unseen enemies or possible civilians. Its a safety measure to tell them hey there's someone or thing there be alert! or room all clear stomp on through, American soldiers aren't going to walk up to houses and put this thing to the wall and say somethings moving in there BLOW IT UP! that's just irrational.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WHEN ARE THEY GONNA IMPLEMIENT THISIN THE GAME AMERICA'S ARMY?
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Finally, the US military has solved an age old problem that has plagued the men of America for far too long... how to peep into the girl's changeroom without getting caught.
- Hyperion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The first thing I thought when reading the title to this was "Wallhax!"
- hackez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I heard about this from a guy that designs this stuff for the military.
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad it won't do squat to keep our guys from getting blown up by gigantic IEDs.
- tech10171968, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quote by kin242:
"Yay- now you can kill even more brown people... :("
If you don't want to see any more "brown people" getting killed then maybe you should tell the insurgents to stop trying to kill soldiers in the first place. This piece of equipment, if implemented, will serve the purpose of keeping troops from getting killed from having to blindly enter spaces while clearing them. - stolenpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"this is one step closer to the "heartbeat sensor" in Rainbow Six... how awesome!
rcomegys"
That is exactly what I was thinking. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yea, it should be pretty helpful for the government when america turns into a police state
