- theorem4, on 11/07/2007, -2/+37Great card, I'm getting one as soon they're at places like newegg.
- aggies11, on 11/02/2007, -0/+25Looks to be *THE* card to have if you are on a budget and game @ 1680x1050. Can do Crysis (based off of SP Demo) at High settings for that resolution. Also SLI scales past the performance of an 8800 Ultra so that could be a very attractive upgrade in the future (throw in another 8800GT which is sure to be cheaper).
Can ATI's RV670 hope to compete? Somehow I'm guessing no (what are the odds that two cards are released with such high performance, low price in addition to low power requirements)
Aggies - BrandonMills, on 11/02/2007, -0/+20To anyone who bought an 8800 GTS 640MB or 320MB recently and didn't know about this upcoming release, you have my sympathies.
Then again, I bought a 9800 Pro just before the 6600 GT, but that was more due to timing of building a new machine than anything else. Oh well, that's the way the tech industry works. I have tons of used-to-be-expensive hardware that isn't worth shipping now. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 11/02/2007, -5/+19Kind of a biased review if you check the graphics settings for some of them. They have different settings for each card in each game... How can you compare hardware like that? Otherwise, good review, it gets the message across at least.
- wowy, on 11/02/2007, -0/+13Already there. The XFX card is $260 plus shipping.
- aggies11, on 11/02/2007, -0/+13Personally I much prefer HardOCP's methods, they benchmark games in the same way people play them. That is they aim for the best image quality at a given performance level (fps). So they crank the game as high as it can go while still getting playable framerates. Personally knowing that my card gets 11fps @ 1920 rez doesn't really help me much, as it's something I'll never actually experience. Knowing that spending an extra $300 going from an 8800GT to GTX will allow me to max both the shadow and shader settings but not the resolution, DOES help, as it's the actual difference I would experience if I owned each of the cards.
They take a lot of flak from uninformed readers who request "apples to apples" comparisons. To which I've always found strange because it's like "requesting apples to apples comparisons, when all you actually ever eat are oranges.."
Aggies - frgmstr, on 11/02/2007, -4/+14EVGA GT at Frys on preorder for $230.00. http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5434329 Yeah, this GT is crazy fast. SLI with the GT should be fine up to 1920 rez or so, but at that point and surely beyond you are going to be memory bandwidth bound if not by the size of the frame buffer as well. So unless you have 24"+ monitor, the GT should fit you well. :)
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -2/+12Why would anyone buy a fast card with only 256Mb though??
- SlipstreamLucas, on 11/02/2007, -1/+11:@ i wish new egg did international - specifically australia. now that the dollar is at 92cents it starts to be worth it !
- Dustmuffins, on 10/31/2007, -0/+9Damn... it outdoes my 8800GTS 640 meg for 100 bucks less =(
- Asianwaste, on 11/02/2007, -1/+8So says the guy who managed to put 3 geek speak terms in one sentence?
- aznhomig, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7Be wary of ordering from the Egg right now; they've had this nasty habit of price gouging for new and popular components. MSRP on an 8800GT 512MB should be $200-250 (I got mine at Fry's for $222), and the Egg sells it for $270-299! :O
Remember the Q6600 a few months back? Yeah.
If you can, wait a bit (or look for other vendors) and wait for the prices of the 8800GT to stabilize (or if you want to, wait a couple more weeks to see what AMD has in store). - tomz17, on 11/02/2007, -4/+10Guess what... it is....
- Archon810, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6How the hell does the GT have the lowest wattage by a long shot?!
110W vs 145W GTS vs 185W GTX.
Edit: oh wait, 65nm... that's impressive! - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -10/+16HURP DEE DERP I SIGN MY POSTS ON THE INTERNET
Aggies - tLove, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6More reviews... http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_880 ...
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6I believe they try to compare cards running at close fps and measure the pros and cons of each card. Be it resolution, image settings, and other given options.
- sb66, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5The damn card is 95% of a GTX for 250 bucks. It must suck if you recently bought a GTX or GTS....
- powerhouse, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5From anandTech: Not only that, but we can expect the stock clocked 512MB 8800 GT to hit $200 at the low end. The 256MB part, which won't show up until the end of November, will hit prices below $200.
I will wait a little bit longer to save $60. - fatadamblog, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Yeah the 8800GT is a great card for performance.
The name though GT not GTS or GTX seems kind of iffy to me.
Why couldn't Nvidia call it something else and rather not confuse customers like this. - Shuk, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6Any good Canadian deals (remember that the dollar is at parity with US)?
- SlipstreamLucas, on 11/02/2007, -0/+4genuinely looks like a great card.
- spritom, on 11/02/2007, -1/+5After reading that review....I need a hug
...from a nice buxom blonde - SkeetTron5000, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5Seconded
- orgazmo, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Not if it was an eVGA and within 90days, they get a free step up (And by free I mean you have to pay for shipping)
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+4Use a service like vPost https://www.vpostasia.com/australia/index.html to get things shipped from America to Australia. I bought 2 Zune's from Woot.com and had them shipped to my virtual U.S. address, to be shipped to Australia.
- aznhomig, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4NCIX? That's like Newegg in Canada, pretty much.
- powerhouse, on 11/07/2007, -0/+4Did you read this part of my comment: "we can expect the stock clocked 512MB 8800 GT to hit $200"
I was talking about the 512MB 8800gt - Sabretou, on 11/02/2007, -1/+5Call me poor, but I'm still from a third world country, a lower middle class background and find that a little on the high side. I'll be taking the 8600, thank you.
- DrIce926, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3I bought my new computer exactly 3 weeks ago so my girlfriend could play TF2 with me. I scoured the net for information on anything new that either company would be releasing, but everybody was being silent. *sigh*
Maybe I'll just sell my 8800GTS 320MB. Do you think I'd get a decent price for it? - inactive, on 11/02/2007, -2/+5eVGA 8800GT 512MB for $229.99 @ outpost.com/fry's http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5434329
- hackerssidekick, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3Damn no New Zealand :(
- Stevethegreat, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3Wow, is there such a thing for Europe?
- BrandonMills, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4The new R670 was supposed to perform quite well, but ATI will most likely have to change their pricing structure because of this.
- Carsonauto, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Why would you WANT to buy them in Canada? We pay tons more than the US. On the back of every book we buy, it says US: $30 CAN: $45
- Its garbage, really. - Paramour, on 11/02/2007, -1/+4Step Up Program? Do you use it?
I know I will. 8800GTS to a new spec 8800GTS I guess. - SPARTACVS, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3I only play at 1280x720, but I think I'm willing to pull out the wallet for *this* card, so I should be fine for years of new games at high detail considering my resolution.
- maticus, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3awesome awesome awesome. And here I was, ready to drop the same amount of money on a 8600GTS. (Which I now see has dropped well under $200 for most cards.)
- frgmstr, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3The PCIe Gen 1 Vs PCIe Gen 2 issue is not going to make any difference right now and will likely not till we see next-gen high-end multicard solutions. Remember those little connectors on top of AMD and NVIDIA cards? Those are there to make up for limitations seen on the PCIe bus. We MIGHT see those go away with gen 2 configurations.
- freshgrease, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3I was gonna get the 8600GT to hold me over to the 9-series, but this 8800GT sounds too good to pass up. I won't need a 9-series for a year or two (I'm still using a 6500
- quentinp, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3tigerdirect.ca has them for $500.
- ScottDaMan, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3No idea why you are being dugg down +1. It's $49 cheaper there than NewEgg!!
- Cyber_Akuma, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Wait a second, so according to these benchmarks it scored similar to both the GTS and GTX? Damn, I wanted to get a GTX. And they were still only averaging around 30fps on "high" for Crysis, do I need to spend over $1000(fat chance) on video rendering hardware before the game is playable on Very High with AA? :(
- ferrariman60, on 11/02/2007, -2/+4There's one available now at Zipzoomfly:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?Pr ...
And yeah, this looks liike a rockin' deal. Unbelievable. I do wonder when the second revision of the GTS is due out, though..... soon I hope.
Edit: Look's like they're gone, sorry. They'll show up soon, though. - Ben1220, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2I agree too, UT2004 is better, but 8800 doesn't play it well. For most people it stutters like mad, it has since the 8 series began. Type 8800 UT2004 into google or just look here http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904
- aggies11, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Yes, but the new GTS will also cost the same price as a GTS. The GT's other advantage is that it's hella cheap. Even if the new GTS can beat it out in terms of performance, in terms of value (performance/price) the GT will have it beat hands down. So for people who are value conscious, or on a budget, this is the new watermark.
Aggies - powerhouse, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Digg down, It was valid and in stock yesterday but not today.
- cherwilco, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2nah for distributed password recovery I would go for the quadro plex. with 64x AA password recovery should be, well prettier anyways!
http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadroplex.html - Genma, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2basically if you got an evga card less than 90 days ago you can send it in and pay the difference for a newer one. so gts would be free I guess. I was so about to do this until I checked my invoice, I'm like a week or 2 past the mark. sonofabitch.
http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp?switch=2 - Slydevil01, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3I have this problem during Lost Planet with a GTX and Vista. Hope it doesn't happen with Crysis.
