- Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2DDR2 is cheaper than DDR though, so you save money, sort of.
- xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3works good for me, im still on socket939 [ddr1]. Now I can just skip to quadcore/ddr3/dx10 ....sigh... too bad my bank account shudders at the thought.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For what I've saw in past reviews, DDR2 doesn't provides much performance improvement from current DDR400. It's like Intel's netburst architecture, makes you go faster but not much of a performance gain. ... I could be wrong though, haven't seen benchmarks for DDR2 vs DDR lately.
- lm314159, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This also causes problems now that AMD has put the Memory controller on the processor chip itself. Yes, most processors have always worked well with a specific type of memory, but there was a period of time where you could change your processor to the latest, and use your older memory at the same time.
I remember changing from 30 to 72pin SIMMS and being able to choose on some mainboards, and moving from SIMMS to DIMMS.
My point is, the inclusion of the memory controller on the CPU Die has now solidified the Tri-fecta upgrade: Motherboard, processor & memory even further. With the amount of socket changes recently though on the AMD side, it really doesn't make much of a difference anyway. - pugfug90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These would be designated for performance segment though.

It should come by Q307, when Intel's 'native' quads come ;) - Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Err.. this was supposed to be a reply to ChileanGoD.
- bdizzlefizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So what does "1 Gb devices with capacity up to 2 GB" mean? A 1 GB chip is actually a 2 GB chip?
- caseycoold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It has become even more of a gamble of "when's the right time to build a new machine?" Since RAM, Proc, Mobo, and PCI-E (if you don't have it yet) and you have to buy all new at the same time. And if you wait to long, you have a slow system. If you buy soon, opps you got ripped off and your friend just bought the same system for $200 less less than a month later.
The hardware companies play this game well. - williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hell yeah they need to slow down. I like having memory, but dancing on that damn dance-pad thing gets tiring.
- theblacknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A stick of RAM has up to 16 devices on it (8 on each side) and so 16x1Gb=2GB
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1me neather, i still have ddr1-400. althoiugh i could switch to ddr2 any time i wanted relitivly painlessly as my mobo has both ddr1 and ddr2 slots... im using an asrock 775dual vista.
