- malkir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Summary:
On Newegg.com
AB9 = 145.99
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 = 212.99
They came out mostly equal in all benchmarks. The Gigabyte has more options. As usual, you get what you pay for. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'd rather buy an Asustek board. All my Asus boards have always worked beautifully. One has survived living in barracks with shotty wiring and two lightning strikes on the transformers outside.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No doubt, Asus makes good stuff always but lately Abit has been coming back strong.
- yohojones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I vote for the Gigabyte DS3.. It's 965.. has all the overclock potential and solid state capacitors too boot for a cheaper price...
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have the Asus P5B Deluxe. fricken love it.
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't mean to say it was any faster or less cheap, just that it was easier to build a system since the memory requirements (presumably) weren't so fussy (by fussy I mean you need an exact speed at such and such timings, from what I've read on newegg comments and whatnot).
- CoolSilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly
- zolox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had Abit and I've never had a problem and they were overclocked quite abit
- pantuky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have the Gigabyte 965P-DQ6, and I must say that it has turned out to be a pretty kick-arse board. Totally stable, outstanding over clocking, high degree of compatibility, runs cool, totally silent due to the passive cooling. My one and only complaint is the stupid crazy cool plate opposite the CPU socket. This prevents you from mounting most high performance heat sinks, like the Zalman CNPS 9500 or 9700.
Folks have recommended sawing on the plates, but I have no intention of doing that. - fjc8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had an Abit AB9 Pro and it refused to boot 75% of the time. I returned it for a better motherboard.
- frofro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can go even cheaper with the 965P-S3. From what I've read, it's practically the DS3 minus the solid capacitors.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude how often do you have power surges and power outages at your house? Do you live in California circa 2001?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From my perspective, i got an abit fatal1ty mobo when they first came out it was about 180 dollars, after a few months it just died on me. I sent it back and they sent me a new version of the same mobo, now when we have a power surge, or the power goes out, the bios "forgets" the settings . Needless to say i am not pleased with Abit, i dont believe the products to be quality.
- LovelyCrap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Neither the DS3 nor the S3 use the ICH8R southbridge, meaning they lack important SATA features. Both the DQ6 and the AB9 Pro have the ICH8R.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah i live in south alabama/florida, power outages are almostly monthly. But, the bios should not "forget" its setting due to an outage, i have several pcs in the home , that have never been effected by this
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in Cali in an older building with crap wiring and my APC battery backup catches power drops/surges all the time.
digitallysick definitely needs to get one. everyone should have one. - ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why would you go with the 965 chipset? Doesn't that have some super-fussy memory requirements? 975x for the win :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1umm, no, it's a cheaper chipset overall. The 975 is slightly more expensive but barely faster in terms of memory bandwidth
- phobie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about GA-965P-DS4?
It has a ICH8R and everything the GA-965P-DQ6 has, but is much cheaper. - TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1***** those I got my Asus P5B Deluxe! I got it for 185$ too :D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1and why do we need to go here?
- Jedipottsy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1www.duggmirror.com
- CoolSilver, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Personally I wouldn't trust either company.
