How To Make Cufflinks Out Of Ethernet Connectors
geektechnique.org — Mark got invited to a fancy party and couldn't find his cufflinks, so he hacked a pair out of some Ethernet connectors and bits of wire; and thus the crimp-your-own cufflink was born. He's written up his mod in detail for others who want to follow suit.

- CharlesSaint007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That looks about as sly as an elephant in a strip club...

- Scottish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yeah, I will digg the story for its amusing properties, but that summary is ridonkulous. (Written up his "mod"? Give me a break.)
Now that I think about it... I wish there was a way to digg a link, but bury the contributor's headline and/or summary. - cocoamix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Sure, man. I "hacked" my old hard drive by yanking it out and using it as a paperweight.

- anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I think i'll keep with my gold ones.....
- jinksys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35I guess that would be the 101st way to not get laid, well done.
- tetfsu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And now the newest thinkgeek fashion accessory...
- knid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9wow, that looks like *****.
Classy too :ugh: - modusop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This makes me feel geeky just looking at it!
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Not often you find active instructions on how to drive away women and friends in one swift project.
- beesforbreath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9that's not very attractive at all.
- mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9At first i thought "cufflinks" means the same as "handcuff".
Then i asked myself: "Why don't i get invited to such 'parties'?"- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So did I.
Then I was wondering about how kinky geeks really were.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So did I.
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A fancy party ?
oh god. That's .. geeky. - jwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I would have crimped another RJ45 on the other side once they were on. You can always cut them off if need be.
- mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5actually, i don't think there would be any need for putting of his shirt anytime soon.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Nothing says "I'm a ***** tool" like homemade (ethernet???) cufflinks.
'Tis a sad day for humanity. - l0rdn1k0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ethernet cufflinks :D
that'd be hilarious if it turned out that it sold!
judging this guy's logic, i would hope not. - LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The link is dead but just from the description -
Why would you ever do this to yourself? - jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8***** stupid.
- fotowca, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I digg it. I'd never wear it, but I dig it.
- lartexpert, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3When I read the headline, at first I thought it was going to be with 10b2 T-pieces.
Hard to imagine how anyone thought this would look good... - icexe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i think this would have been much more interesting if he had used 10Base-T connectors instead
- ggudggid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I would post a comment about how cheesy this is but someone beat me to it.
- B-o-K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not about design or functionality or whatever... it's just a quick patch for a wedding-suit ;-)
TokenRing would be nice too.
Oh and this is geeky / nerdy humour from my hometown in the Netherlands... so dugg!- mkaufman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2aren't you embarassed?
- ebenthurston, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2worst thing ever?
- ZMoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NEEERRRRDDD!!
- cards, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why not write an article about how to make cufflinks out of paper clips when you're in a pinch. Ya know, to show everyone how organized you are.
/sarcasm - cards, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, this is proof Kevin Rose can get anything to the front page.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Ethernet is not a cable!
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.3 - sixspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Great! Now all I need is a length of Cat5 cable to tie around my waist for a belt and I'm a high-tech Jethro Bodine.
- mjar81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is seriously stupid. Reported as Lame.
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gg~~
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing to see here.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Should be entitled "How to not get laid."
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ERT! Wrong. He made cufflinks out of RJ-45 connectors, NOT ethernet connectors. Ethernet is a software architecture, NOT a physical device.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I hate it when people call physical objects by the protocol that *might* run on them.
- jesterspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think we should move on to some actual tech news.
- mistermark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for the traffic... but somehow it's buried now(?)
it was fun while it lasted (on the frontpage) though :-)
