No, THIS is irresponsible:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=995389845963718192 - buryme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why exactly is this "irresponsible"? It's an interesting method to utilizing a 12-gauge, but I don't see how that makes it irresponsible...
Great idea, crappy "article" with it. - Leonaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You know you're a redneck when...
- Valence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I dunno ... This could be pretty useful, especially for apartment dwellers.
Just imagine your "favorite" next door neighboor getting a loud knock on the door, and when they open it they see that thing with a barrel pointing at them and a note: "I SAID TURN DOWN THE ***** STEREO. YOU HAVE THREE SECONDS TO COMPLY." - LucianSolaris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LaCamiseta said:

How is it irresponsible to teach a child gun safety (which INCLUDES how to use a firearm). There is nothing wrong or dangerous with what she and her father (presumed to be) are participating in.

I note it doesn't fire in the air. You think an AA12 has very little kick? Well, an R/C helicopter also isn't very stable.
I have about 2 hours experience with RC crap. And I could hook up a servo to pull a trigger. The trick is making it at all useful. This provides no evidence of that.
This is completely unremarkable.
I will give them credit though for noting in the beginning that you cannot own an armed gunship in the US. - ideefix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry bad link, mea coulpa http://users.skynet.be/mobilavenue/AutoCopter_Gunship.mpg
- leep80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This shot gun looks like the AA-12, it is a gas operated selective fire shotgun. It was developed by a group in Tennessee, they wanted to sell it to the military. I went to the manufacturer once and got to shoot it. The shotgun had amazing little recoil.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would the military be intrested in duct taping glocks to furbies? it can mentally and physically hurt the enemy :)

@Seumus
For clarification, you are properly classified as "leftists" and not the more classic "liberal". When one calls someone a "liberal" and thinks you're insulting them, you're grouping them with me, Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington - those who would protect and defend your innate human rights. This includes most if not all gun owners. "Liberal" is therefore a high compliment.
(BTW, gun owners are split 50/50 across Democrats and Republicans, most make over $50K a year, and most are married. Read some studies before you insult rednecks like that.)
When you want to insult someone for taking away your rights, call them a "Leftist". You're comparing someone to Pol Pot, Mao, and Stalin - those who would take away your rights and enslave you, therefore, the insult is correctly applied. - YuleLogger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They say that very many emergency room visits begin with:
Hey, y'all! Watch this! - mckinnej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crainium: I'd rather have a shark with a friggin' laser on it's head.
Funny, but unless you can control the shark with R/C, it won't be nearly as much fun. Wait, I meant effective.
Now let me think. Got to have one. Hmmm...can't buy one...don't have too much money...friend has an R/C copter..I can get an old shotgun..DUCT TAPE! This my friends, is how the Darwin Awards got started. :) - BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>I'd rather have a shark with a friggin' laser on it's head."
Probably the best comment so far.
For all those "whatever" amendmenters, guns don't kill people, people kill people, thats right isn't it?
Orrr, not... - bt2006d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe most don't know this, but Huntsville, AL is the center of missile defense and where most missile systems in the US arsenal were developed. This is part of a US army contract, not just a couple of guys behind their trailer shooting possum for dinner. Huntsville's also where the Saturn program was built. The people who built this are probably rocket scientists.
- noodhoog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is Rita did.
Sofa king Rita did. - dlvolk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They did this in Alias
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And to all the people who said this thing would never stand up to the kick of a shotgun, in the extended video they fire 3 12-gauge rounds in quick succession with minimal kickback that is easily countered by the pilot or onboard computer flight controller.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Or, try this, an extended version of the same, off the original website, for anyone with enough time to attempt at the root of the directory.

we already have them. Predator drones with hell-fire missles. I read a story recently about a guy down here in colorado springs who works for the military. He flies Predators in Iraq from CO. Warfare is evolving but I will leave it at that. A helicopter with a mounted shot-gun isn't being built to hunt animals.. - Snarfalunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Suffering digg effect now but...
ftp://autocopter:gunship@www.neural-robotics.com/AutoCopter_Gunship.mpg - Quimosabe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The shotgun shown is a Auto Assault 12 (AA12) Combat Shotgun
The full-auto-only Auto Assault 12 Automatic Shotgun fires at a relatively slow rate of 300 rpm (rounds-per-minute) and employs the "Constant-Recoil" principle, which is a recoil attenuation/mitigation system

These guys are no rednecks, they knew what they were doing
I am almost sorry I know this information - cranium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd rather have a shark with a friggin' laser on it's head.
- turdferguson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm militantly (no pun intended) pro-gun, I think gun ownership should be mandatory for almost every (male) citizen, like in finland, but even I know this is a bad idea. It may technically work fine and everything, but this thing violates just about every rule of firearm safety. I don't know of any range officer that would allow this at their range. This is a perfect example of an idea that is both really clever and really stupid. Although since it is a 12ga shotgun (it IS an auto assault 12 BTW) you could load beanbag rounds and other different types of loads, much more versital than a centerfire rifle round. But I'm not one to stand in the way of technology's development, so if they want to build this thing, let 'em.
Oh yeah, and you guys do realize this is the prototype for the HKs from terminator right?

- 2day, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.neural-robotics.com/Products.htm
it is not a robot, it has an operator:
The AutoCopter is a self-stabilized unmanned mini-helicopter that can be used as an aerial platform in the sky. Applications include aerial photography, surveillance, pipeline and utility line inspection, convoy escort, and mine detection. For those wanting to perform aerial photography the helicopter will maintain stability and position at any altitude up to its design limit of 7000 MSL. Payload capacity 15-20 pounds, depending on configuration. An aerial video system can be provided at additional cost.
The company's patented neural network-based flight control algorithms provide "intelligence" to the system. The operator, without any helicopter piloting experience, can maneuver the helicopter (via the joysticks on the transmitter) forward, backward, sideways, and vertically. Basic avionics consist of a PC/104 computer, attitude & heading reference system, GPS receiver (WAAS compatible), and heading-hold gyro. An optional Ground Control Station (GCS) permits remote mission planning and real time telemetry.

- 2day, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01. i doubt this is a robot but is a UAV with a controller.
2. It is obvious;y built to be an anti-IED weapon. I will fly down the road ahead of a convoy and when the operatpr detects a suspicious item, it can fire into the item. It is not anti-personnel, that is just stupid.
3. Huntsville has a lot of prototype weapons development, this is not a bunch or red necks but a bunch of scientists who will make more in the year than 95% of the losers on this site crying about this being a bunch of rednecks.
4. stop being hysterical and start thinking libs! - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm for anything that puts more guns on the streets. Or in the air, whatever.
- chess007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Nothing worse than a red neck MacGyver."
MacGyver was strickly antigun. Don't levy insults at the GREATEST tv character ever!
"A helicopter with a mounted shot-gun isn't being built to hunt animals..."
Yes it is. Animals of the variety suicidus bomberus. Its also great vs the terrorists. :) Great for CQB. One shot could put pellets in every terrorist in the room. Definately not a weapon for liberal pansys. - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh the little girl shooting the machine gun is cute. She has to learn to shoot sometimes. :)
As for the helo with the shot gun. I'm kind of disappointed they did not fire it in flight.
I'm very sure the shock loads would cause a boom strike causing the whole thing to spin wildly out of control. In full auto mode it would bring a new twist to Russian roulette. - freeboarder1402, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not impressed. If you're going to spend time and money "developing" something like this you should probably try to make it accurate... did any body see a single round hit its intended target?!

- Cuda444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I can assure you 99% plus don't have a gun"
Where did you find that statistic? That's a bit extreme at best I'd say... Do some research and post intelligently. - LucianSolaris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Seumas:
It is a fun thing to do! People go out with their legally owned firearms and have fun. No one is being harmed in this sport! There is nothing morally or legally wrong with it. Football games come out with more injuries than machine gun shoots! Hell, there are more deaths on sunday drives then there are at machine gun shoots. Do you like violent video games? Violent video games things depict more violence than shooting at gas filled broken down cars in the middle of a field!
Now, you tell me, whats -wrong- with it? - u3b3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GOOD NEWS, EVERYBODY! ever seen an Apache helicopter? the military has them! I'd rather deal with a shotgun on a toy than that.

"you're an idiot. If this were used over in Iraq or other hostile areas, it could save countless lives. "
Well that depends on how you look at it. If US soliders are killed by doing it the old way, evil iraqies live (so lives saved here), public opinion in the US may turn further, and the US pulls out (no more war, more lives saved). - Numbers_of_pi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@waterdragon
