- obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -6/+187Virtus? I read that as Virus! Good marketing HP.
- lovekudu, on 10/10/2007, -9/+99HPs industrial design team (in the last 2 years) seem to be the only group asides from Apple that's doing something both good and individual - Dell make ugly window-equipped bright red LAN party rigs, and everyone else seems to be busy knocking off Apple.
I have a DV2000 series laptop (works great our of the box, including remote control, heat sensitive keys, and media reader, in UbuntuStudio) with a distinct, subtle wavey pinstripe look. It's conservative (black/silver colors) but distinct at the same time. - alwaysmc2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30Yes, and if you open up a Mac it's filled with cookies and pie. :-/
- Amablue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24I KNEW IT
- Toshers, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23I really dont understand why anybody cares at all before they know what it has in it and how much it costs. I'd trade that case for an ugly grey box in half a second if it would save me £30 =|
It will only be full of hopelessly mismatched hardware anyway, like the majority of all prebuilt desktops. Yay, a quadcore processor and 2GB of RAM... they just forget to mention that it's 400MHz RAM ¬.¬ - ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Apple Pie?
- SilentJay74, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Cool design, to bad the whole thing will be ruined by the default install of Vista.
- LanceHardenburg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14This looks like the Verve notebook in desktop form.

Which basically means it will be ridiculously overpriced. - GRTWHT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Of course you don't, anyone that is geeky enough to care about their tower isn't going to be using a service like that.
- sint4x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I like how the USB ports are outside of the doors. I have a 2 year old and I need a case with doors, but its annoying to leave the door open to plugin a flash key.
- dasinfernet, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Finally! Out of the thousands of hours I've spent at my desk staring blankly at my PC's case, I finally have the chance to stare at slightly more decorated case. Kudos, HP!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14HP's design team isn't that great. Let's not gush too much, it looks like a mini oriental dresser.
- pierre, on 10/10/2007, -8/+17That is hideous. Looks like a paper shredder or a psychedelic trash bin.... stupid designers trying too hard. Keep it simple and clean, when will they learn.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Yeah, I'd love it if the case were available, but I'm not going to take my chances on an HP system to get one.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Wow...a computer in a tower box.
- kreatre2007, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Same old *****. That's just an ordinary box made up to look good. There's no engineering there. Apple's designs are both beautiful and functional. This new HP is just lipstick on a pig.
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -9/+16It looks like any old case I could pick up from frys and shove a couple hundred dollars worth of parts in. It's silkscreened plastic. Nothing revolutionary there. It's still just a faceplate that covers a vague, ugly chassis.
- cfuse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Call me back when it doesn't look like a box with a coat of paint. Not design, wallpaper.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10I thought computers were getting smaller,? Looks like a biscuit tin. Clearly HP think that by putting a swirly design on the front it will be cool, no, no it doesn't.
- kidvicious1973, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It is still an HP. Had a laptop from them, worst pc I ever had.
- jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Once you open the door, all you see it a $400 plastic PC.
Lame. - chaosium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This will change everything.
- xtraa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I think the problem of any PC vendor besides Apple is the form factor. They all stick with ATX to keep it expansionable and cheap.
And thats why it looks like a chinese powder box to me.
But at least they tried. - Cwo655321, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7the votes are not all in.
- loculi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I don't care how many bells and whistles it has or how slick the design is. HP makes terrible PCs, a complete waste of money. Btw, to the poster lauding their slick black laptops, yup they *look* really nice... too bad they're also complete pieces of crap. Just to give you an example, we have a few of the Pavilion DV9000 models in our office, over the past week I have now seen two suffer from hardware failures, both running on Vista, both shipped to us with "Vista Capable" stickers on them from HP. One had the network chipset completely fried by installing a VPN client, the other had the VIDEO die on it from installing Microsoft Project. Estimated time on repair for the laptop with the fried video chipset? 7 - 9 business days. We just purchased three new Dell laptops with next business day maintenance agreements, and I'll be encouraging our director of technology to never purchase another HP PC again (their printers are still nice though).
- nobullmouth, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9I have had a lot of luck with HP. I have two of their high end laptops in my home and one is over a year old now, and the other about 6 mos. I couldn't be more happy with the performance and the build. At one point I spilled a coke in the laptop keyboard; I thought it was a disaster. However, when I took apart the laptop there was a plastic overlay that protected the internal components from getting water damage. All I had to replace was the keyboard which had the part number printed on it. $15 later on EBAY my machine is as good as new. HP makes a quality machine and they are an innovative company, unlike Dell. However, I am not impressed with this desktop design. I wish they would come out with something as slick as MAC produces with a minimal amount of wires and space. This just looks like the same old computer parts in a custom case. Plus, does it come with Ubuntu?????
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I honestly do appreciate the effort, but it's not for me. It reminds me of a 19th-century dresser exported from mainland China, except without the fine wood construction. I'll stick with Ives and Apple for design.
- GRTWHT, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Congratulations, but as an IT, I can definitely add another (mostly meaningless) personal observation: we have more problems with HPs and more HP warranty work than any of the other manufacturers. On the upside though, the newer HPs are definitely better than previous ones.
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You do you HP is #1 PC maker, right?
- chrisc262, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5that is probably what most people think when purchasing a computer - score another one for marketing
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They were going to call it the "Spywar"
- lcmatt, on 10/10/2007, -9/+13And whats wrong with HP? I have a Laptop and PC which were bought at the same time 4 years ago and I've not had one problem with them.
- chaosium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What a waste of a merger.
- Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Meh. Bigger is not better.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Toshiba? You're kidding right?
- airstrike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you, sir, are a moron.
either that or very superficial.
or a n00b to care more about the 'outsid3' than specs.
or all of the above. - chrisc262, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4big deal - i could build that setup for under $1000
- UncleRico, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I second that...we've got 4 year old dells that haven't had any problems, but our HPs have had problems within the first year of use.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Nice looking case. I've had mostly good luck with HP products (printers and such). Lot's of people here talking about Apple's designs in comparison but c'mon people, these are towers and most people will stick them under their desks and never see them again. The only part of design for towers that matters for me is how easy it is to get inside to change common items like drives and Ram. Secondary features like USB/FireWire ports that are easy to access. Maybe even flash memory access. I think Apple has it right for most of that (not Flash memory obviously) but people with no intention of using OS X aren't going to buy a Mac to run XP/Vista even though they now can easily.
The outer case is sauce for the goose. What else is there about this one that makes it good? We'll find out later. - mojoel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7As long as it's less proprietary as stuff from their past and as long as I can put whatever OS on it I want. The I'd have no problem with it. Flashy is good but what's inside is more important.
- hassanchop13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4sony's designs have been consistently nice
- monsterofNone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3how long before those shiny plastic doors break off? in my office they'd be open all the time to allow access to the ports and drives. they're just begging to be knocked off by a knee or a swivel office chair.
pretty but impractical. - jhails, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Same old ginormous PC box with window dressing. Nothing particularly interesting and as everyone has pointed out... it will sit on the floor next to your desk, take up space and collect huge piles of dust. Nice try but no cigar. If its gonna sit on the floor maybe it should be designed like a waste paper basket.
- ryan112ryan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3what is that cable sticking out of the top?
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yeah, the problem with dell was, that they could offer good service when they weren't selling so many PCs. When they got huge, however, theeir razor thin profit margins were not enough to support all the customers. Unfortunately, in the computer world, people value price over quality and service for some reason.
- nstern2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Don't expect much from HP. It will be crammed with so much junk you'd be better off just wiping it and putting ubuntu or xp on it.
- loculi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3And what exactly does that have to do with two of them crapping out for no apparent reason other than software installations? Nothing, try again fanboi.
- RainNIU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Seriously, if you're an apple fanboy, you came here with the intention of ripping the design apart regardless of it's looks. Grow up. Lots of us own both Apple and PC products. Guess what? We don't give a sh*t about your zeal for the Church of Apple.
- RainNIU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You pulled your tongue away from Steve Job's ***** long enough to type that. I applaud you.
- RexMaxus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Personally I would go with medium traffic, with heavy traffic the speeds will be lower and at times even stopped. With medium traffic there is a much better chance of injury because there are still lots of cars, but they are going full speed. If you are going to try to have idiots injure themselves at least make sure that your plan is idiot proof.
