- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10People doesn't know what DirectX is - nor even what a "chipset" is. They measure graphic cards level in megabytes of memory: Card with 256 Mb > Card with 128Mb, ...
I sometimes realize thet people who knows about DX10, Wii, PS3, Vista, Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, Web 2.0, etc., is a vast, vast minority. But companies are aware of this fact. ALWAYS. - Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I thought I was the only one still stuck with that card. When Vista upgrade advisor ran on my laptop I think I heard chuckling coming out of my speakers........ *maybe* I imagined it.
- TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow.
I need an upgrade- I have a GeForce4 Go 440. 64 MB of memory. - diggems, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yeah so does 95% of technology
- expertninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You aren't kidding about the juice thing. I have a 7900 Go in my laptop, complete with about an hour of battery life while playing anything fancier than minesweeper.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I dont see the point.... Why do these companies continue making DX9 cards with DX10 looming around the corner.....
They really should be concentrating on beating the competetion to DX10..... - Klinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well there's the fact that there are no DX10 games out right now. That this mobile chipset is based off of a DX9 part. That this chipset is still an upgrade versus the previous generation. nVidia no doubt has a DX10 mobile chipset in the works, probably a mobile G80 of some sort. But for the time being there is no reason to hold back better DX9 performance on the mobile platform.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3First of all, there are no DX10 games yet, and there won't be for quite some time. When DX10 games are finally released, they will definately have an excellent DX9 shaderpath because the transition to Vista for most people, will be a slow one. You do need a DX10 card to support all DX10 features, however things aren't going to be using DX10 features until at least mid 2007.
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Like your wallet!
- WDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alright, I have a question: Do I, in all honesty, really NEED a DirectX10 card to run DirectX10 games? I'm planning on buying a budget system for college that's designed to be expandable. The idea was to get a 7900GS now and then later add another 7900 when I need it. I mean, that's plenty of power right there, but do the cards NEED to be built for DirectX10 to use it?
- lasmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the 17" XPS Dell has the 7950 as an option right now...
- Nydas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Im actually in the process of looking for a new gaming laptop. How long before this hits the market? Also, would it just be smarter to wait until DX10 and Vista come out?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dang... that's enough juice to run any game turned up to max res with plenty of AA and AF filtering on. Course it's going to drain the juice too... Guess it's a desktop replacement solution so no biggie. Serious gaming in a nice form factor though!
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love my Geforce 7800Go (256MB RAM). It runs Obilivion at 1280x800 + HDR + far draw distances and all the pretties turned on. I am sure that guy just smokes everything you throw at it.
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't understand people saying "Wow with that I can play everything at max settings!"
I have the predecessor, a GeForce Go 7600 with 512MB in my laptop and I can run EVERY game on full settings. What's the big deal? - ptaylor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like it'll actually fit in a normal laptop! OMG! Now, if it will allow the laptop to run on batteries while playing a game, then it would actually be mobile! Who knew?
Otherwise, keep a power adapter and outlet on standby and some goggles on your face to protect your eyes from the exploding matter... - XopherMV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Any purchase of this video card is a waste of money with DirectX 10 right around the corner.
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice. I'm hoping this will be available as an upgrade to the 24" iMac someday. That would kick some serious ass. Here's to hoping Apple makes more Macs with MXM, and to 3rd party aftermarket upgrades too!
- macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sexy, need a gaming laptop.
Although I have a MacBook Pro and it does the job more than just fine. - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think so.
The G80 based cards are coming out in a month or so. Resulting reviews should give some indication of how well the new technology is going to work early on.
I'm going to wait until at least early '07 and build a completely new rig. From what I've seen of DX3D10 based visuals, I think it could very well be worth the wait. - DarthFredd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Feh, I don't need this. The ATI FireGl 5200 in my IBM T60 is good enough: renders F.E.A.R. and Half Life 2 on decent settings, as well as the Older games. I have no need to upgrade my laptop.
Also, I've never met a gamer who used a laptop as his primary game system. It seems the myraid options of a desktop win over the portability of a laptop.
So it seems to me that neither myself nor anyone I know will be buying this. - ewhac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3There are no DX10 games available. Further, DX10 will only be available for Windows Vista, which also isn't (really) available, and which is going to be a spectacular failure when it finally comes out. So there's no point wasting time on it.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I need an upgrade and I have an ATI X1400 in my laptop! 256 {128} MB of memory - the extra 128 is "hypermemory."
- bangmalley, on 08/30/2008, -0/+0my electric bill..............
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about an AGP version? That would last nicely 'til 2008 and DX10.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let me know who's selling $75 AGP 7800s. They've been around for about a year now and still cost ~$250-300.
Ok, I guess those are in that 5%? - musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The video card you pay 300$ for today will resell for 75$ tomorrow.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Also, would it just be smarter to wait until DX10 and Vista come out?"
It's always better to wait until the new generation stuff is ironed out and prices go down. The question is, can you wait that long? If you can wait six months, then go ahead and wait. :) - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I dont see the point.... Why do these companies continue making DX9 cards with DX10 looming around the corner....."
That's because DX10 *isn't* looming around the corner as MS originally led us to believe. ATI's leaked roadmap shows what's really going on. Don't expect much use of DX10 until 2008 at the earliest. - ineser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The GeForce Go 7950 GTX notebooks will just "eat" more energy, causing the battery to last less than one hour
- cshontz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Can I upgrade the 6800 Go in my Inspiron 9300 with this?
- zzyzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The article says that it's Mac OSX compatible. Hmmm.... Wonder how soon someone will try it in their 24" iMac ;-)
- ray901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Why should they wait on MS before releasing their next generation product? Should they just stop producing any new cards until MS release DX10 (next year or so)?
- bob301, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Alliteration aside, I'll take my chances with my Desktop.
