- seena91, on 06/23/2009, -3/+72Adobe Flash! Theres an app for th- ... o wait ...
- anexanhume, on 06/23/2009, -5/+53We need to move beyond the proprietary standard that is flash. Instead of waiting around on Adobe (for ANY platform), we could have webkit browsers that support HTML 5 be ready to support content that is just as good as flash with an OPEN standard.
- LinkinX, on 06/22/2009, -6/+51Android FTW!!!
- geekdw, on 06/23/2009, -7/+42I have never regretted buying the G1. This is awesome!
- Robozilla, on 06/22/2009, -8/+41This news here is the reason I bought an Android phone instead of iPhone last year. :) It'll be worth the wait.
- rajputwarrior, on 06/23/2009, -12/+45flash runs like garbage on pc, linux and osx (for example check your cpu usage when you are on youtube, especially in OSX).
My theory is the reason apple won't support flash is because it would murder battery life. If flash runs like ***** on OSX, and the iPhone OS is just a slim downed version of OSX, would it really be worth having it on the phone if it would kill your battery in like 20 minutes? - Cronikeys, on 06/23/2009, -6/+37The "iPhone 3G F" will have flash support when it comes out next June. I don't think AT&T will support it, though.
- hitemup054, on 06/23/2009, -11/+37apple fanboys will find a way to make this a positive for apple
- rnawky, on 06/23/2009, -2/+22You really want to see FLASH running on top of JAVA?
I can not fathom how slow that would be. - MScrip, on 06/23/2009, -3/+22I'm confused...
People hate Flash websites on full-sized computers... computers that have plenty of horsepower and are plugged into the wall...
And they also hate annoying Flash ads on websites...
So why is Flash such a big deal on a portable device? How will Android be better with Flash? - chicagospur, on 06/23/2009, -5/+24I can live without Flash.
But... I don't think I can live without a Commodore 64 emulator... - dn11, on 06/23/2009, -4/+22I know, 1 hour of battery life is way too much on the current G1. Flash Platform Technology™ will optimize it to 20 minutes.
- shrudheuie, on 06/23/2009, -2/+19yep
- dn11, on 06/23/2009, -6/+21 I wasn't aware that flash has multi touch, accelerometer, GPS, cellular and wifi APIs built into it. But I guess you're right, Flash is such an awesome platform that will obsolete the cocoa touch with all it's Arnold Schwarzenegger sound boards and flash games designed to play with a mouse and keyboard... apple is so scared
- empath, on 06/23/2009, -4/+19This is not a slam on mac or the iphone or flash, but Flash 10 crashes on my macbook all the time or pegs it at 100% cpu. If it does that with the CPU and RAM I have on my macbook, how is an iphone or any kind of smartphone going to handle it?
- Deranged, on 06/23/2009, -2/+16What about blackberry?
- jman583, on 06/23/2009, -1/+14Hulu? any other video site that's not Youtube?
- sdipaola, on 06/23/2009, -1/+11flash gets you video, animated charts, imagery on sites, gaming and simulations. yes there is the awful flash full websites, but there is toms of very needed embedded flash content.
- cfizzo, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9coming to the iphone soon. yeah right. i'll believe it when i see it.
- novalux, on 06/23/2009, -2/+11Hulu, Vimeo, Last.fm, Pandora, and an Imperial Crap Ton of games are why we care.
- kevnaca, on 06/23/2009, -4/+13some people think Flash=the internet
Flash is a garbage format. Ad agencies abuse it like hell and the few people who do use it right are still subjected to a bloated framework that's not very stable or fast on a lot of computers. - restlessdesign, on 06/23/2009, -4/+12yes. that's what flash developers and more importantly, iphone users, have been waiting on for 2 years.
- spookyttws, on 06/23/2009, -1/+9I'm okay with that. As an iPhone user (and lover) I'd like to see a neutered version of Flash that supported video and a few other things. But I'm just fine not having to see stupid moving ads and lame splash screen openings. If Flash does come to the iPhone, I just hope we can get an AdBlock plugin along with it.
- Wilddigi, on 06/23/2009, -27/+35iPhone sucks. NO flash
- waydee, on 06/23/2009, -2/+9No flash and a mediocre camera as well? sign me up.
- superkendall, on 06/23/2009, -3/+10sdipaola - HTML 5 gets you all the things you just mentioned, all without the insane CPU consumption of flash. And you hardly need Flash to get games on an iPhone...
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7two words: user interface
- keyo, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7heard of windows mobile?
- svensksvamp, on 06/23/2009, -3/+9you are comparing flash with native apps, listen to yourself!
- znicket, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7How exactly would Flash change my browsing experience on a mobile device? I am genuinely interested in knowing.
- ousthouse, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6would that make hulu viewable on those devices?
- Baryn, on 06/23/2009, -4/+9Loses out completely to Pre's camera. What's it like being a tool?
- MScrip, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8Flash websites suck?
- svensksvamp, on 06/23/2009, -6/+11Why do you want flash on your phone?
- kschmidt5585, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6Flash is one of the easier languages to program. It's very similar to Java. It can do lots of things that Flash and CSS can't do. At least until HTML5 comes around. I agree about the bloat though.
- Escmymind, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6I'm eager to see what they did to improve the performance/battery life...
- superkendall, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6Windows mobile.... think I saw that etched on a tombstone somewhere.
- rnawky, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8And Windows Mobile has been waiting for 9 years, Blackberry for 10 years, Android for a year.
I'm not sure where you were going with that. - Dotcommer, on 06/23/2009, -7/+12I personally don't give a ***** about flash. Its bloated, ugly, a bitch to program, and all of its features can be achieved with simpler, and more effective and eloquent techniques like java and css.
- theCreator79, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7...everything except for the most popular mobile web browser by far!
- evazan, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8apple will never put flash on their phone because it will make the apps obsolete. no apps = no $$$
- Baryn, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6HU
LU
HERE WE COME! - mr_ziy, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8Blackberries ARE the most popular
- chazuk, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7Beaten by many other (older) phones still.
- kevnaca, on 06/23/2009, -3/+7Forget Flash...it's a resource hog and will most likely bring your phones to a crawl with pathetic battery life. Apple has it right pushing HTML 5. Are we really going pushing a proprietary format that's at the mercy of Adobe to get right?
- SteveMax, on 06/23/2009, -0/+43MP, AF, no flash and awful loss of detail at a time when mid-range phones (even business-only phones, like the E72) get 5MP cameras with AF, flash and reasonable NR. This is as much of a joke as 2MP was back on the first generation iPhone.
- deadbaby, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4RIM needs to focus on delivering a halfway decent web browser for 90% of their installed BlackBerry base before even consider Flash support.
- pentiumii, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5You all do know that know that html 5 is not going to be fully up and running for about 5 years or so
flash is still very much the stander and is going to be for a wile
html 5 is still aways off by then you probable wont own an iphone any how
more then likely u all have mid devices cuz in 5 years wiwax and lte should be out in masses and with dsl speeds any were u go u wont need a cell phone any more skype or any other voip will do
so u will even have a mid or a laptop and u wont have to worrie about flash or html 5 as mid and laptops already support both - kiffar, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5***** OFF
- esumti, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5HTML 5 will indeed offer lots of goodies including video, but it's years away and even then it's questionable the MS will fully support it.
