- OGTK423, on 12/29/2008, -15/+121I'm sorry but I think that might be the most useless thing I've ever seen.
- enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -4/+89way too small
way too ugly - mattmcegg, on 12/29/2008, -1/+76good idea. poor design. awful execution.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -12/+62that's lame. why bother with the goofy ass pop out when they could just up the resolution of the existing screen.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+41put one on both sides and make them so you can angle them a bit.
then play flight simulators. - uriman, on 12/29/2008, -4/+40YAY!. more space for pr0n =D
- sfhock, on 12/28/2008, -11/+47I really love my dual monitor desktop, and having this on a laptop would be really great too!
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/29/2008, -2/+32That's what she said.
- Kardde, on 12/29/2008, -0/+25Seems kind of fragile. Not what I expected. I thought it'd be something like a DS with a touchscreen keyboard and trackpad when needed.
- marthaphoebe, on 12/29/2008, -1/+25nice try lenovo, but you've got to make it wider
- xt0xicx, on 12/29/2008, -1/+24Porn
- navk2005, on 12/29/2008, -8/+30that laptop will not run crysis.
back to the drawing board, lenovo. - groo68, on 12/29/2008, -2/+23two monitors are sometimes more useful than one big one.
- jkevin2, on 12/29/2008, -0/+18Sweet! with this I can keep an eye on my stocks and be insulted by diggers at the same time. Add a 3rd screen on the left for some lolcat action and i'm in.
- eklife, on 12/29/2008, -1/+17well, I wish the side that popped open would be bigger. and open on both sides , left and right.
- waluum, on 12/29/2008, -0/+16Lenovo, not IBM - IBM sold their PC division to Lenovo (a Chinese company partially owned by the Chinese Government). When you buy a Lenovo Thinkpad you don't buy an IBM Thinkpad.
- cweave, on 12/28/2008, -8/+23Lenovo (err IBM) is really getting innovative these days, first the built in wacom pad and now this. WTF happened?
- tidu, on 12/29/2008, -2/+17I don't want to be carrying around a surfboard
- fatcatdaddy, on 12/29/2008, -1/+14In the words of Bill Hicks; "That's almost a good idea."
- banthis, on 12/29/2008, -4/+16I don't know. I think if they'll just accommodate us with a 22" laptop screen, that would do.
- linagee, on 12/29/2008, -0/+11Extra 3 inches of screen for what?
- Xinil, on 12/29/2008, -1/+12Would actually be decently useful as a programmer. Code on right, application on left. If it was a bigger extension I'd think about it.
- Memnochxx, on 12/29/2008, -0/+10You're right, let start making 23" laptops.
- Wrangler76, on 12/29/2008, -6/+15A Samsung monitor already has done a similar concept before- a Samsung 22" monitor with a 7" monitor attached to it. It's VERY useful for monitoring two windows at once without going for eye-straining resolution or massive screens. That Samsung was an award-winning monitor at the last CES, so I'm going to assume that this thing is going to get even more praise because it's a much bigger engineering feat. Pretty neat I must say.
By the way, if you think this is useless or "ugly", you're obviously not in the professional market that they created this for. - DatDudeWiggs, on 12/29/2008, -5/+13But will it blend?
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -2/+10That's pretty neat. Too bad the repair costs would be astronomical if anything were to happen.
- hardwareguy, on 12/29/2008, -1/+8now i can easily hide my p0rn.
Just pop in the screen.
In my book that's very innovative - hyperspaztik, on 12/29/2008, -1/+8I used to have dual monitors, but then I bought just one 24" monitor instead. I liked having two, but I don't do enough to need two anymore.
However, Lenovo is really going to jump into the corporate crowd with business people looking to get dual monitor support on-the-go. - Slacker1031, on 12/29/2008, -0/+7Cool idea, but this video doesn't really show any sort of practical use for it. running paint on one side and word on the other is a poor way to demonstrate the functionality of two screens.
- GarryBarker, on 12/29/2008, -3/+10What an overpriced and gimmicky computer! Lenovo has always made unstylish computers, but this takes ugly to a whole new level.
- Techwid, on 12/29/2008, -1/+8dugg for the coolness of dual screen laptop, however I must say the reviewer could use a little more practice doing video reviews. Anyone else find him dragging on a bit...? Oh well, tech is still really cool
- BossKey, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6floating tool palettes, chat window, email in box, network monitor, stock ticker, CSS reference, sports scores, spell checker floating window, email monitor, webcam/streaming video window, etc....there are a lot of displays you might want to show alongside your main window but don't need a whole monitor to be useful.
- farfromhere, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6Short of buying a second computer?
No.
What's so hard with just using the same keyboard and mouse with the second monitor? You only have 2 hands...... - Cimlite, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6Even if the porn when into the computer with the display... how would you explain the goat sounds coming from your computer?
Yeah, your plan is flawed. :P - slyzxx, on 12/28/2008, -4/+10Interesting concept with the built in wacom pad and the dual screens is defiantly the way to bring in the new era of laptops, just curious to see how much that will actually weigh as opposed to normal laptops.
- yacks, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5maybe he is talking about the way this will defiantly bring in the new era of laptops that many companies will defiantly definitely resist doing..
- uppedbyhiggins, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5Hmm that may well be, but I still think it's ugly and stupid.
Comedy option for Lenovo competition: Duct tape two laptops together. - yacks, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5no... he really means =D
- fxu1989, on 12/29/2008, -1/+6that's what she said...?
- groo68, on 12/29/2008, -3/+8you could do photoshop full screen with the controls in the little screen. or any program like that.
you could do aim in the little screen while watching a movie in the big one. - johnboycanada, on 12/29/2008, -9/+14Innovation Fail.
- s.lucero, on 12/29/2008, -2/+7Did you see how thick the secondary monitor made the top half of that laptop? I'm not willing to sacrifice and additional 1/2 inch of thickness for a tiny deployable monitor that I don't particularly see myself using.
- groo68, on 12/29/2008, -1/+6or make the second screen twice as wide.
- trademarkhero, on 12/29/2008, -0/+4Lenovo DS?
- yacks, on 12/29/2008, -0/+4you know you can buy a pretty decent laptop with some actual power behind it for 3x the cost of netbook, right?
- roxgod666, on 12/29/2008, -3/+7How is that a fail? If it suit my job and i had the money i would buy it. You can't bring a dual desktop workstation on a plane but this would achieve just as much.
- groo68, on 12/29/2008, -0/+4it will just switch to the main screen when your looking away and it moves all the windows to the main screen and people will wonder why you look proud about yourself watching porn.
- cactus476, on 12/29/2008, -1/+5Seriously folks, this look likes crap compared to what customers really want.
- vanguardanon, on 12/29/2008, -1/+5You sounds like a guy with good eyesight. For me, the ever increasing resolutions and decreasing font sizes have reached their usable limit. I like the idea of adding a secondary screen instead of just focusing on a single screen.
Also, as a developer I tend to use my laptop as a workstation. I really wouldn't care if it was 12 lbs if I could have something with the power of a desktop so when I see a trend of packing things into a more capable laptop I'm happy.
Having said that, I'm using a lenovo right now and it's a total POS. I've been getting thinkpads from work for 7 or 8 years and since IBM sold off their PC division the quality has dropped notably. I like the trend but I'm glad it's not my money going toward these crappy machines. -
