- cheez124, on 04/07/2009, -1/+24This looks like a really good contender for a small media PC that does 1080p, if the price is right I'm sold.
- TKidd, on 04/08/2009, -0/+19Wake me up when they put this GPU in a netbook.
- Ricochetbiscuit, on 04/08/2009, -0/+15The HDMI output from an Ion machine is pretty dang sweet too. Drop on an eSATA hard drive and in addition to the on-board 250G drive, you get a nice little machine for storage and streaming. $299ish supposedly is the target price... want!
- patm1987, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13R&D is free now? Time for me to find a new profession.
- hoju7887, on 04/08/2009, -0/+12wtf was the point of the "win"?
- sonofabiscuit, on 04/08/2009, -1/+13"Pricing for the AspireRevo, though not confirmed just yet, is expected to be around the $299 mark."
I shat bricks. - SirFragsMore, on 04/08/2009, -0/+10Sim City 5? It plays games that haven't been created yet!
- jostheller, on 04/08/2009, -0/+9That would make a pretty sweet mythTV frontend.
- Wreckage, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8Who needs an AppleTV when you can now buy a HuluTV
- Dougman82, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8Well, if the eee pc taught us ANYTHING about "target prices," this thing will probably debut closer to $400.
- sodappop, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8no battery, keyboard, touchpad?
- PseudoThink, on 04/08/2009, -4/+11Want. With no Vista.
- numberneal, on 04/08/2009, -1/+7yeah yeah!

With NVidia now having VDPAU support in Linux, and all the major media players supporting it, this "nettop" will be incredibly useful. I've been browsing around news sites, and the biggest complaint from people is that they think that the Atom single-core won't be powerful enough for 1080p decoding. Of course, this is untrue. Using VDPAU, NVidia off-loads the decoding process directly to the GPU, leaving the CPU virtually untouched. On my home system with an 8800GT, I watch 1080p stuff and my CPU doesn't go over 3-4% utilization. So, this is PERFECT for a media centre plugged into a high-def tv.
There are a few really nice media centre applications for Linux, the main two being XBMC and Boxee (boxee being based off of xbmc). I'm not completely sure about Boxee, but I know that XBMC now supports VDPAU, which is what I use, its amazing. - mishaneah, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6Look'n Snazzy
- AmyVernon, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5talk about compact!
- shifty2, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5Are you using Media Player Classic Home Cinema? Out of the box watching a MKV container file will automatically use the GPU to do most of the decoding.
I have an old P4 2.0Ghz with a Nvidia 9500 and it sits around 20% average CPU usage. My C2D w/ a 4780 sits around 5% and these are 1080P MKV files.
If you're using the stock Windows Media Player then you're doing it wrong. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6I cant ***** wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- ninjadave, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4why hello there little computer ;)
- orville1151, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4It's future proof!
- kidcodea, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4ASUS N10.
been out for 6 months with nvidia 9300m
not exactly same, but close performance, also 1080p dxva decode with 30% cpu taken under mediaplayerclassic cinema. - MacEnvy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4The next revision of eSATA is supposed to carry power, so it looks like you'll get your wish.
And how is it an "idiotic standard"? It's just an external SATA port. I wish we'd had the ease of use of a standardized external ATA-6 port a few years back, it would've been pretty handy.
It's a huge step up from USB or FW400, you just have to provide a power source to use it until the next revision - which you have to do with 3.5" desktop drives using USB or FW anyway. I wouldn't have bought a laptop without it. - palmer, on 04/08/2009, -2/+5eSATA. What an idiotic standard. Someone PLEASE come up with a better I/O port that carries POWER.
- Burn, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3What? No.
It's saying that it's Nvidia's first 'Win' for the platform, i.e, first client who will be purchasing it. It has nothing to do with Windows or memes. - dubjah, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3I wish it had 802.11g/n, but that's the only thing I'd change.*
*I reserve the right to revise my comment after I get my hands on one. - hellsing47, on 04/09/2009, -2/+5Not coming with Linux will be a selling point to a lot of people.
- mtglass, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Price tag, hdmi, 1080p........does it for me.
- pyrates, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Me want, xbmc should be sweet on this.
- garryw, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4How is this different from a laptop without a LCD?
- MacEnvy, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3The standard SATA interface is inappropriate for external use. It's flimsy in regard to lateral pressure, is not meant to last through hundreds of connects/disconnects, and also leaves the pinout relatively unprotected. The eSATA interface, at least from my own use, seems much more durable and appropriate for a frequently used port form factor.
I really can't believe I'm defending eSATA, since I don't even like it that much, it's just a much better interface than USB, FW, or standard SATA for its intended use. I can't wait until the powered version comes out. - themastersb, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I can hardly wait to see Nvidia Ion netbooks... even though I just bought a netbook...
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2i hope you're right.
- skinturtle, on 04/08/2009, -3/+5I knew very well they were gonna get into just turning the graphic card into essentially a PC.
If this had of been built by Apple...they would have charged at least $1200 for it. - Elranzer, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2XP Pro or Linux will do.
- srg13, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2It looks pretty good, but I actually like the reference box a lot better...
- iamjero, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Ever since they showed this off, ive wanted one. First one i see for retail im snagging.
- CrazySpaniard, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2well garry edited his post so now you just look like an idiot
- FelixDrylock, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I like how they casually place CPU on the bottom of the spec list. Part of their attempt to put all the focus on GPU, with all their talk lately about GPU taking over for the CPU.
- Burn, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Except it's a different socket just for the sake of being external. If it had power I'd understand the different socket, but since it's just straight SATA, why didn't they use a standard SATA socket?
I also agree that it's a stupid standard without power, in fact I don't even understand the point of the standard without power. - Fozefy, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Actually from the stats given it might handle it on low settings :P
- Chrysalii, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1agreed, though I just got a 1000HE so I can wait a while.
- MacEnvy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1That's what I've been waiting for as well before I buy one.
- SteveMax, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Wow... That's, like, the opposite of "win".
- zeth006, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Agreed. Same here. Going to grad school in a year and won't be needing a heavy notebook.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Would this work for a network computer? feed back?
- Elranzer, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1This OEM product looks nice... but will Nvidia sell the motherboard by itself for us system builder/hobbyists to use?
- Elranzer, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1FTA: "In addition, NVIDIA plans to foster VIA-based Ion designs as well."
Eww. - skinturtle, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2"Starting" at $599...
