- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+125I'm sorry, that's not a hair question.
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+106Apparently posting ASCII art is against the ToS. Digg crew consider it trolling/spamming. I got popped for the same thing yesterday after posting ASCII in a different 'hoax device' related story. Had my account disabled and had to email digg to get an explanation, promise not to do it again, and finally get my account reinstated. I'm now on 30 days double secret probation because of it :(
- WeDooWeDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+81I added a picture of the Terrorists holding the device and here is what he has to say:
We are America's new shadow to be afraid of. We have LEDs, we can solder, we have perfboards, we have 3 volts of power, we have a Darth Vader cookie jar, we have Make Magazine, we have played Gears of War, we have almost reconstructed an ancient energy sword, we have watched all episodes of Futurama, we have reconstructed the lightsaber bat, we have Luke Skywalker, we know how many types of people there are (there is 10 types), we have chainmail to protect us from your attacks, we watch [Adult Swim], we have the "sinister looking device," we have many Legos of many colors, we read Megatokyo, we repair your 8 year old PCs, we run your GrandMA Lighting systems, we operate your 112 channel sound systems, we install Firefox and delete your Internet Explorer shortcuts, we torrent both audio and video episodes of DiggNation. We are them, they, and the 31337. We are geeks. - DarkSenay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55OMG, there are wires coming out the back, what a menacing looking device!!!
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52You're going to put it in the mail? Congratulations on winning a free trip to sunny Guantanamo Bay Happy Camp!
- jcblitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Just going off your comment I don't think you'll be able to even put the batteries in that device.
- Jaryd2006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29someone set us up the bomb
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27*You* don't make the LEDs.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Whoa, what the hell? The mooninite comment has been removed!
- colinmhayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23LEDs are easy, just take some n-type material and some p-type material and play around with it. you'll get something eventually.
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27You can make LEDs. If no one can make LEDs we wouldn't be able to buy them at the store.
- pixelbasic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23'Lite-bright' is about to make a MAJOR comeback.
PS > http://www.sfpg.com/animation/liteBrite.html# - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25mancat has been a member of Digg since August 2005, but has dugg less than 100 stories.
Go back to Myspace. :) - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19uhh, yeah. why was it removed?
- Shiftgood, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28I can't believe they are paying the city 500,00+. What about the person dumb enough to call it in as a bomb!? who is this person? why are they not being held responsible!? if called in a bomb threat, but it turned out to be a kitty cat in a tree... I wouldn't sue the momma cat for having babies... id sue the person who made the phone call.
what is going on in America? we need to find some way to make Darwinism more influential.
PS. "we have a Darth Vader cookie jar" - that made me giggle.
nice lights. - jake57, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Oh noes! Bomb in the webpage!
- LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Right, because they REALLY didn't sell any copies or anything...
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17You buy LEDs from a hardware shop, wire them up in a circuit and arrange them into a pattern. In this case on a surface.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If you have to ask these questions, you should not be playing with electricity. Even 3volts.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14and all your base are belong to us
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Somebody set us up THE digg bomb.
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Somebody set us up a digg bomb.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12How about for those that don't know how to use the Reply link on Digg? What should they do?
- cofo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14cooooooool.....got any plans for it? I wanna make one...but im no electronics whiz..
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It's 2 million not 500,000. I just hope the money gets the charges dropped against the guys who put the signs up.
- zoomtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11People are little stupid to call Boston nuts. Just hear me out for a sec. You think everyone should know who a Mooninite is. You think everyone 40 and up watches cartoon network??? Think about it your 40 to 60 you see this weird sign under a bridge that is giving you the bird. Can you really blame a old person???
Now if I saw it I would have thought it was the funniest ***** ever.
Also people do not have a right to put items on other people’s private property. If some wants to take down one of those sign of the mooninites. They have to get up on a ladder, and what if someone falls of that ladder???
This whole Boston thing is nothing more then a generation gap. - NetJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11They don't need to know about about the cartoon, just have enough of a clue to figure out what an LED sign is. Sure they were probably trespassing, and maybe vandalizing. But what happened in boston is no worse than tagging. Hosing up a city that size because someone tagged a few public places with an electronic sign is just lame.
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Are you kidding? What they're paying Boston is cheaper than a 30 second ad during American Idol. Talk about a steal! 30seconds versus a week of discussion. Turner got their money's worth for sure. Brilliant.
- thebghate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9This makes me miss my Lite Brite.
- macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Mumbles Menino or any of his cronies has NEVER heard of Digg, I will put money on that.
- heyjosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8dont't foget - "We have seen the faces of the last five Cylon models"
- xkenny13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Jameco Electronics (www.jameco.com) -- Very large bins of more-or-less surplus stuff. Some new manufacturer stuff as well.
Digi-Key (www.digikey.com) -- All new manufacturer stuff. $25 minimum order (or $5 service fee)
Mouser (www.mouser.com) -- Not the greatest selection, low inventories. Still, not a bad place to shop if you can't find it elsewhere.
E-Bay (www.ebay.com) -- Tons of stuff out there, not sure about the quality, though. - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Time to go back to typing class.
- diggernaught, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'M CALLING HOMELAND SECURITY ON YOU! ha ha ha
It really is too bad that our own country is terrorizing ourselves, this is just what the original terrorists wanted. - bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Get them on ebay you can usually find a hundred led for about $15 including shipping. as a posed to $4 a piece at radioshack

- aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Boston PD JUST closed this page for questioning
- Jsmakr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7After taking a close look at the pictures, it's easy to determine that hoax device is harmless. For a moment, I thought my hair was not safe.
- drewskyjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'd love to see the construction details and parts list a la instructibles. I'm no electronics genius either, but I can follow instructions pretty well. I would make one for the Dallas Cowboys and put in on my bar. I have a friend who will want to make one of these with a UT logo...assuming he can find a burnt orange LED.
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5just waiting for the first actual bomb made to *look* like an LED sign... there's no way any smart terrorist would pass up the opportunity now. i mean, we all got big heads from being able to tell the difference.. let's hope no one takes advantage of it
(though, at the same time....) - Duelist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7People read Megatokyo?
Wow. - jinglee, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16make a "DIGG" out of any ***** and it shall be brought to the forefront of the site...
That's digging for dummies.. - colinmhayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5what are you talking about? mouser has the largest inventory of any of those places.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Steve?
- NoBullet2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6He's using reverse psychology. It probably really is a bomb. Kevin don't open it.
- Foamator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Darn... beat me to it. My version was "Someone Dugg us up the bomb", but you just had to go and post before me, didn't you? Arrghhh!
- politech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hey! ... that's the bomb diggity
- cann3dheat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Do you have any pictures of the production process?
- WeDooWeDoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6powered by 3 volts of drum thumping bunnies
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh please with the ass-coverage. It was a monumentally wasteful overreaction. Whoever ran that op should be fired and evaluated for subnormal IQ.
