- jakatan, on 04/23/2008, -3/+155My computer's case is nothing but endangered animals stitched together.
- whiteyak41, on 04/23/2008, -1/+93Ikea is making computers now?
- 15damcharacters, on 04/23/2008, -3/+90It looks like a Fig Newton
- lukas88, on 04/23/2008, -2/+82Is it liquid cooled with children's tears?
- replaysMike, on 04/23/2008, -7/+76Wow this will go great with my eco-friendly baby seal wrapped office chair.
- RubberBinder, on 04/23/2008, -0/+59Bamboo has an incredibly fast growth rate which is why it is "green" and why Dell used it for their concept.
- vandy, on 04/23/2008, -1/+57Nice set of ports on the back. This would act well for a media server I think. HDMI and optical? Good stuff.
- keithwired, on 04/23/2008, -0/+44There is no shortage of supply of Bamboo, it grows ridiculusly fast and is an invasive weed, once it takes hold of an area it can turn into a bamboo forest in a very short amount of time, I know because it happened at my college where we have 2 separate bamboo forests on campus grown by students who planted just one bamboo shoot a couple of years ago. They are not chopping down forests with living animals to get the bamboo, they could grow it in their own warehouses if they wanted to.
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 04/23/2008, -1/+42*****, HONEY! We gotta get rid of the panda.....
- IAmTheGuy, on 04/23/2008, -2/+31Luckily you don't have to worry about it because the article clearly says bamboo. Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and it matures in about 7 years making it very eco-friendly.
- mizay7, on 04/23/2008, -0/+26bamboo is bio degradable and renewable, which makes it eco-friendly. also bamboo is a grass not a tree. *the more you know... *
- mkling176, on 04/23/2008, -2/+27thought this was an onion article from the title
- coachmcguirk, on 04/23/2008, -17/+41This whole "green" thing is starting to get sort of silly..
I'm all for people who want to save the planet and such, but are wood encased laptops seriously considered "green"?... - centerblack, on 04/23/2008, -2/+26Depends on wether the plastic/metal case production is bad for the environment. Bamboo grows like a ***** weed so... no problem there right?
- InspectorGadget, on 04/23/2008, -0/+22Voldemort?
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -1/+23Are you serious? Fur coat to a PETA party? Waste of resources?
1) It replaces plastic
2) bamboo is very sustainable, so it's more green than plastic and wood
3) The bamboo most companies use is a species of bamboo not eaten by pandas
I like how it's a lot smaller, like a Mac mini. Computers don't need to be huge! - bluetytanium, on 04/23/2008, -0/+18Bamboo is extremely common and has a multitude of uses.
- Sinai, on 04/23/2008, -0/+17But green! You can't argue humans aren't a renewable resource.
- centerblack, on 04/23/2008, -1/+17Bamboo grows like a weed... are we worried about bamboo?
- pzwhite125, on 04/23/2008, -2/+18iKea?
- VeniceCA, on 04/23/2008, -2/+17Warning: Keep out of the reach of Panda bears.
- saxreturns, on 04/23/2008, -1/+15A Mac Mini killer? I've got wood.
- StanislawLem, on 04/23/2008, -6/+19Wow, someone besides Apple has finally come up with a good looking computer. Kudos Dell.
- mateusap, on 04/23/2008, -2/+15God damn it, learn to read!
"the machine is 81 percent smaller than a standard desktop and uses 70 percent less power." - bigfloppydonkey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13I have wood before this article.
And by wood, I mean erection.
And by erection, I mean I had an erection. - digitul, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13wow this place s full of idiots
- centerblack, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13Hey at least it's not human skin. That would be creepy.
- Kratos76, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13The wooden case is a nice cliche, but the Green is referencing its smaller power consumption and recycled(able) components.
- stubear, on 04/23/2008, -2/+14It's bamboo moron. The stuff grows quite fast which is why it's considered green. One can easily replenish the supply, even with the growing (no pun intended) demand for bamboo in house construction and the like.
- InspectorGadget, on 04/23/2008, -1/+13Steve Jobs thanks you for your fellatio.
- KMartSheriff, on 04/23/2008, -0/+12As a Mac fanboy, I gotta say I'm impressed as well. The Mac Mini is pretty underwhelming, and this looks much more interesting.
- doyoulikeworms, on 04/23/2008, -1/+11Why? The case isn't made out of weed. Not that a case made out of weed wouldn't be awesome.
- doyoulikeworms, on 04/23/2008, -1/+11I'm surprised at how nice Dell and HP computers are looking these days. Still not as cheap as you-know-who's computers, but they are definitely paying more attention to design.
- stix213, on 04/23/2008, -2/+11The real question.... Does it ship with Ubuntu?
- johnn11238, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9How about 1/3rd the electricity? Like this one.
".....and uses 70 percent less power."
(from article desc.) - mateusap, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9It can reach more than 3 feet a day, to be precise
- centerblack, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9Interesting looking case... I wish the pictures were higher resolution though.
- silentdragoon, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9No, you have to have three iterations before you can make that joke.
- Aokitsune, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8THE SOUL OF A FORSAKEN CHILD?!?!
- CatsAreGods, on 04/23/2008, -1/+9It's not green. It's brown. Is everyone color-blind lately or what?
- Evolutuon, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8Green because it uses 70% less power and uses a renewable resource as a case. While the necessary parts can't be built out of wood and not use electricity at all, its a good direction for being part of the solution and not entirely part of the problem.
- saxreturns, on 04/23/2008, -1/+9I'll iterate you in a minute!
- bluetytanium, on 04/23/2008, -3/+11You look like a fig newton.
- snagra, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7Yea but i'm pretty sure that bamboo grows amazingly fast.
- centerblack, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7They claim it's bamboo. Not exactly the most difficult thing to grow eh?
- humboldt79, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7It's funny that the next article on the front page is about a 24k Mac.
- FFXIfrohike, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7It's bamboo. All bamboo deserves to die... Ask any gardener XD
- chaos7, on 04/23/2008, -1/+8the fig newton comment is the best one here
- Dotcommer, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7I foresee loneliness in your future then.
