- tormod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18You mean besides changing resolutions and refresh rates?
- tinkafoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5two words: FIRE HAZARD.
- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Obsolete" is a rather absolute word to have used. Perhaps the word "old" would have been more appropriate, given the fact that a handful of those computers can still run a modern-day OS and perform "normal" tasks, albeit a bit slow.
- Innagadadavida, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Two things. It doubles as a room heating system!
- KrashTheMighty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You must think you are on fark.
- Alisic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4CRTs are still way better than LCDs for many, many people, most importantly to designers and gamers. They can display unlimited colours, have good deep black display, can change resolutions, feature no ghosting, and their display doesn't change depending on the angle you view them from.
- jonnyfatman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Macs and PCs living together in perfect harmony. Aaaahhh.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't want to be under that arch when an earthquake hit :-o
- likwidtek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder what OS they are running and what they are using to display that color. Is it just displaying a picture full screen or a small app that displays a color or what. It's interesting that I saw a few apple computers in there too. Also I saw some VGA splitters in the rear as well. So possibly he only needs one computer for each color to run. You will notice not every PC is turned on or plugged in. Just each monitor. I think it's pretty cool.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3December 11.
restate my assumptions:
1) The art exhibition is made up of obsoltete machines, each one running a portion of the program.
2) Just as the rest of the universe is an interlocking mesh of finite machines, pushing each other in circles, Euclid will be a derivitave of that very system.
3) Everything is a machine of machines.
Press Return. - matt9m5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i bet the racks up an energy bill.
- pyper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love how they used stacked keyboards, mice, speakers, 3 1/4 floppy drives and stuff to fill the voids between all the cases, brilliant!
What would be even cooler would be to have the color sequence move up the wall. - dadood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like a gold farming operation in disguise to me.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This would be even cooler if there was music coming out of the speakers and the colors of the screens changed along with the beat.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you look closely, most of the ones with power are old Macs. I would guess MacOS 7.5 thru 9.
- danep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Haha that's brilliant. I hope they've got good A/C in that place... I'm surprised the thing hasn't turned into a mountain of molten plastic yet.
- flipmeat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, you're not supposed to publish pics of Google data centers.
- Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My render farm is starting to look a lot like that.
- RichGC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looked ok, but I think the noise would drive you nuts.
- Whomever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Obsolete!? I'm surfing on one of those models now. Maybe it's time for an upgrade...
- CoffeeandTV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It actually looks decent. Nice.
- stargatesteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love it, but how about the power bill? At least the heating bill is down a bit...
- razordancer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Alisic- While I agree that CRT may be preferred by some designers, I think that you overstate their importance in today's market, especially where gaming is concerned. 32 bit color depth is good enough for my gaming experience, and black levels aren't really important for gaming in my opinion.
I will concede the fixed resolution and color accuracy issues, but ghosting isn't really an issue with any modern LCD. Viewing angle, while in my opinion a non-factor for a PC display, is also much improved in the latest LCDs. Additionally, wide format is the future, and many wide format LCD choices are out there, while there are very few CRT solutions. - johnie1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks a bit like me flat
- LAhazmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, looks like my garage except I don't have my piles of computer hardware neatly stacked! Good on you Mate!
- wetard57, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mighty Fine, gj
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally some art I can appreciate!
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the black levels on CRT's
I prefer my main system to be an LCD as they are easier on my eyes.
CRT's can really strain after hours of use - PDubNYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not saying that it wouldn't be hot or noisy, but most of those machines are not plugged in. Most likely just the ones connected to the monitors.
I like the way the artist gave access to both sides of the display. - aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1they aren't your computers. He can do what ever the hell he wants with them. There is no law that says that he has to donate them. oh and, gimme 10 "obsolete" systems and i will give you 10 systems that Nigerians can use to send spam to people.
- kstyron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's what I was about to say. My words exactly....
Sort of interesting looking but a fire hazard nonetheless. - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thats a fire waiting to happen...
- Stonekeeper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Gimme 10 "obselete" machines, and I'll give you 10 machines that can give unpriviledged kids a chance at learning. Wasting computers disgusts me.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can't be any worse than the fan noise on an Xbox 360. Probably puts off just as much heat too.
- manicdvln, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1What a waste of energy
- IIIKrazyKiDDIII, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Radiation Room.... this is pretty neat, looks like something youd see off of one of the "Alien "movies.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@KrashTheMighty
You must think you are not on Digg. - kyle90, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6A prize to the first person who photoshops it so they all display matrix code.
- imlas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Interesting concept. Even though it is not something I could do, I don't know that I'm that impressed by what the final product looks like.
- itisme, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1More of a commentary on the crying shame that is big tech!
-
Shame he didn't use consoles, then you could have all the peripherals and region locked non interoperable software in the bin too, closed system rubbish that they all are digg me down wii/xbox/ps3 muppets! - awinn233, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Are you sure that's safe?
