- Luke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did some work at a Cable Co. and they also do audits with their billing systems and if your cable modems mac isn't listed they shut it off. The software is very good now for monitoring Networks now and if you get caught it's pay up or get charged with stealing services.
- new2this, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, suppose I get the hfc mac of another persons modem on my node. How do I get the CPE IP of that person if my Cable operator is using BPI? BPI encrypts traffic between online modem and CMTS.
Also would the CMTS would have an issue if it sees 2 different CPE MAC's obtaining an IP behind same MAC address?
Just a few questions that popped in my head. - WBSpring, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uncapping wouldn't do many people any good... I have 6 mbps down and 768 kbps up. I have, on rare occassions, maxed out the downstream, but it doesn't last long - files finish or throughput falls. Also, it is hard to max the upstream, unless I'm copying files to work over the VPN, in which case the cable modem general lets me burst up to 900 kbps or so (for 5 - 10 seconds) before dropping back to the 768 kpbs (pattern repeats every 30 seconds).
- cssdev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't get your panties in an uproar, it requires hardware modification to your modem to create a custom serial cable. I am talking to the developer of the software right now on yahoo:
css_dev: i thought it was able to be done through firmware/software
computer___guru: yes, firmware, but in order to flash the firmware you need a modded serial cable connected to the motherboard
A link to obtain pre-mod hardware/software here: http://www.tcniso.net - ryouko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to have a set of files that could do all this stuf, that was supposed to be for uncapping yourself, I chickened out and never did it though
- bannanaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0someone try it and tell me
- phishyJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, ive been waiting for an Astalavista link to show up on digg...
- acr2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are programs like this, and they do work, but its very possible that your cable company will catch on because theyll see increased bandwidth usage if you uncap your modem. Most last mile providers will BAN you from using their service if you are caught. And they could probably even sue you if they really wanted to be dicks about it. So i wouldnt try it.
- apg88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Very interesting.
- XinneR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The program works, i know the guy personal in real life and i helped test it for him
