- whiteknives, on 08/19/2008, -0/+199I want AMD to do well not because I'm a fanboy, but because competition = win for the consumer.
- Merp08, on 08/18/2008, -5/+108I'm not a fanboy at all. I used to go only with AMD when they were on top (I bought lots of their chips back when) but if I built one right now I would go with Intel. I want AMD to do well though. Hopefully they will come back sometime and the battle can continue.
- colonels1020, on 08/19/2008, -5/+85Yay! Go AMD! :-)

(original article) - fwertz, on 08/19/2008, -2/+55Maybe you should read some of the reviews on Newegg.
There are fanboys. There are fanboys. - Dested, on 08/19/2008, -6/+50You saying the statement twice makes it sound more credible.
... You saying the statement twice makes it sound more credible. - zeabu, on 08/18/2008, -7/+37I was a AMD fanboy, until they did not could deliver year after year..
We'll see if this is just some convulsion, or a comeback. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -5/+32WTF is a netbook?
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -2/+27It's a book connected with tubes.
- TheSpook, on 08/19/2008, -3/+21Dirty vaginal canal here, I'm looking for something to wash me out. You interested?
- bmdt2000, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15The other day, I was going down on my girlfriend, I said to her, "Jeez you got a big pussy. Jeez you got a big pussy." She said, "Why did you say that twice?" I said, "I didn't."
- rynvndrp, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15I don't care what the top products are at. I buy mid level at best. And in the mid range, AMD competes. At the low range, the Athlon is a lot better than the celerons. The chipsets are by far the best anywhere out of the 'too much money gamer' market.
- cherwilco, on 08/19/2008, -0/+14read the article at tomshardware about this, yeah the cpu uses 8watts vs the atoms 4 watts but the amd 780g chipset runs on only 0.95 watt vs the 22.2 watts of the intel 945gc.
so 8.95 watts vs 26.2 watts + much better graphics capability on the amd (radeon hd 3200 vs GMA950)......hmmm
just noticed the amd runs cooler too - Chicken, on 08/19/2008, -0/+13I've got a sandbelt handy. How about it?
- jb0nd38372, on 08/19/2008, -0/+13Is it me, or has the quality of toms site kinda degraded over the past few years?
- drgruney, on 08/19/2008, -4/+17"did not could"????
- cherwilco, on 08/19/2008, -1/+13wow that ***** loser submitter sure had that comin!
ass - da_bradler, on 08/19/2008, -4/+16Yeah! socialism is EVILLLLLLLLLLLLL how the ***** am I as an independent fire fighter supposed to start my own business, when the god damn government is just running around putting out fires for FREE!. god damn mother ***** communists is what they are, why the ***** should I have to pay extra tax just because some ***** set their houses on fire.
Without a public fire department the free market would produce faster and more efficient firefighters. i'm sick of this god damn socialism in my country. Down with the fire department and the police and those god damn postal service employees. How are private firefighters private security people supposed to make any money if the god damn government is just going to protect people for ***** free?! - Darth_tater, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11size. the atom is a lot smaller. the 2000+ is about 3 square inches surface area, where as the atom is about 1.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11They made the price of a 280 GTX drop by $200 a week after launch through sheer intimidation. I like them.
- dcmjzero, on 08/19/2008, -1/+11i guess you didn't even bother reading the article, huh?
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -2/+12So why are they not in netbooks? i haven't seen any athlon 64 2000 in a netbook to compare battery life. It has been around a lot longer than the atom, shouldn't we of seen some amazing battery advantages by now?
- lead2thehead, on 08/19/2008, -7/+16That's the first time I've ever seen somebody get diggs for advocating a free market economy. Looks like people are learning.
- fwertz, on 08/19/2008, -5/+14Being mean on the internet makes you look cooler
...The Pi avatar helps immensely as well. - alexforcefive, on 08/19/2008, -4/+13Everyone knows that competition is good in the marketplace. Are you honestly saying you've seen people on digg argue in favour of monopolies?
It's only when the free market invades the public sector that people start to complain. Once again, I refer you all to THE SHOCK DOCTRINE by Naomi Klein - lead2thehead, on 08/19/2008, -2/+11He was being SARCASTIC! God damn, people are stupid.
- blindsided, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10OMG as an AMD fanboy I curse you for forgetting the A!!!!!!!!!!!!
- dcmjzero, on 08/19/2008, -0/+8if you ignore the chipset, yes. if you take into account the entire system, no.
- jaxontyler, on 08/19/2008, -6/+13Fanboy right here, haven't bought an intel in 8 years.
Go me :) - RadiatedAnt, on 08/19/2008, -8/+15AMD all the way baby! ;)
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+7Nope. And it's spelt "Crysis.".
- tama00, on 08/19/2008, -1/+8its smaller and lighter than your average notebook. designed to be a low performance cheap computer to do basic computer things like browse the net, instant message, emails etc
there is expected to be a huge market for these computer in upcoming years especially when they integrate 3G into it like the iphone. in other words invest now. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+7Zilog Z80! YEAH!!!
- afruff23, on 08/19/2008, -4/+10JFGI
- expert01, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7Exactly. Not like we can afford it all anyways.
Wait.
Stop.
STOP!!!
Get your cursor away from that thumbs down icon!
Face it, you're on digg, you sure as hell can't afford to buy the latest apple products, the latest Quad-Core Extreme Processors and nVidia 9000 series graphics cards (although you can afford the latest Linux), you can't vote for both Ron Paul and Obama, the newest version of the PS3 or 360, the latest SLR Canon, that expensive hard drive based camcorder - you're lucky to have that ancient hunk of junk you're looking at this post on.
Ah, screw it. Go ahead and click the red icon. It won't make the facts go away, but it might just make that ache in your heart subside. - rynvndrp, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6The Athlon they are talking about is a NEW cpu. AMD took a newer K8 and modified it to a 2000+. There has never been an Athlon 64 2000+, but there was a Athlon XP 2000. They are not on newegg yet, but probably will be under the CPU/Mobo section. Read the actual article and you would relise this as tomshardware tried to replicate a 2000+ and failed by underclocking a 2800.
- jimmytwotoes, on 08/19/2008, -0/+68086 FTW!!!!
- arlok789, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7I used to be an Intel Fanboy because the AMD fanboys would drive me nuts. It was entirely out of spite. However the last computer that I built, which is the one I am working on right now, runs a Dual Core Athlon 64 4400 plus. The reason for this is the fact that it was cheap compared to an Intel chip of the same speed at the time I bought it. I took the 20 bucks I saved and bought a Giant sack of tacos to eat while building the computer. It was awesome.
- hugolp, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7The Atom CPU does really have a very low consume, but the chipset it comes with doesnt. So alltogether the system with twiked Ahtlon has lower conusme than the sytem with Atom.
In conclusion, read the article before posting a coment. - renegadeafk, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5Not everyone overclocks dude.
- Tenoq, on 08/19/2008, -1/+6That implies it was once good.
- MikeCerm, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5When the comparisons were done, the Athlon was running fanless, and the Atom had a fan. Heat was more of a problem for Atom than Athlon because the Intel chipset is very inefficient.
In a netbook, both require a fan, because there isn't enough room for giant heatsinks. - chispito, on 08/19/2008, -3/+8That's nice, but it's still a big chip.
- jb0nd38372, on 08/19/2008, -1/+6Well why are you competing with yourself to see who gets buried first?
- YourDoom123, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5the point is that it only consumes 8 watts... that doesn't leave much in the way of heat being produced, meaning a little bit of copper over the surface to conduct the heat away is more than enough, if its needed at all.
- rynvndrp, on 08/19/2008, -0/+465nm athlon with 120 million transistors vs a 45nm atom with 50 million. Yeah that athlon is a lot larger, but I would still pick it for $40 more. And if you equate chip to mobo, AMD just has to wait for a company to start making a mini ITX board with its 780G chipset.
- estvir, on 08/19/2008, -1/+5.. because computer hardware never fails, right? I've had basically 2 or 3 console hardware related problems of the last decade or so as opposed to who knows how many PC hardware ones.
They both more or less use the same hardware anyway. - Purin, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4Where do you go for your hardware reviews?
This is a serious question, I'm not being a smartass. - zarcu, on 08/19/2008, -14/+18Good thing its quieter, those CPUs are sure noisy.
- Wilson, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4***** 8086, I'll stick with my 8088 thank you very much!
