- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10a little late
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7of course it's a hack
- Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Until I get the site back up and a mirror of the content, here's the pictures I posted with explinations on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/18756971@N00/
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5or else they're planning ahead. nothin' like a well-planned prank.
- Djerrid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A really simple alternative would be to tape the sound element to one of the two tabs on the back that are used to tilt the keyboard up a bit. If the prank'ee likes their keyboard tilted, they will eventually flip it open and start it up.
Downside: It's easy to find. - thydzik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3surely something like that could be hidden inside the keyboard considering it is so thin.
would it work if instead of using a transistor, the power to the music circuit was added in parallel to the led's power, or would it draw too much.
anyways, was a really nice idea. - skoobisnaxs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8hack? i think not.
- Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ha ha, ok so I labeld it wrong.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A tad late, and I don't know about you guys, but I never use the caps lock key unless it's required in a game..
- thydzik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what about removing the caps lock led altogether?, would make it a lot more simpler,
I hate working with transistors and deciphering what leg is what. - Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What are you talking about? How am I spaming digg? Plus I don't have any ad sense ads on my blog? Did you even read the blog entry? You're a dork.
- ontic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why do keyboards even have a caps lock key anymore? Seriously, as long as they do, caps lock should administer a gradually less tiny shock the longer it's been on.
- Dirtydog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Caps lock key? Why? Shift is your friend.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WP-Cache really helps here.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yeah a touch late guys
- retard098, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wordpress sucks for anyone who gets dugg
- imafish2002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Should have used one of those create your own message cards for that added custom effect :P
- sert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2april fools hack? is that like a prank except for uber 1337 hax0rz?
- hah456, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mirror: http://www.duggmirror.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think they still have CAPSLOCK so that they have simething to pu on the 3 line of letters to make it clean
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.flickr.com/photos/18756971@N00/100220027/
:D - Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a Coral mirror with images: http://blog.mozmonkey.com.nyud.net:8090/2006/april_fools_hack/?mirror
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think they mean to put it somewhere that isn't used very often, so people might not realize what's causing it right away
- roadies, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3that's awesome!
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This trick should be played on all those digg users who think that putting five exclamation marks at the end of their story title is a good idea. (With the thing should be somehow wired to the exclamation mark rather than capslock obviously.)
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not wordpress - it's MySQL... Read the error message. Wordpress is functioning fine - but having a problem connecting to a hammered MySQL server.
It's the result of a bad configuration of MySQL. - frank3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i did something like this once except it was a small gunpowder charge instead of a singing card
possibly the most laughter i've gotten at someone's expense yet - TwizzleNicole, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Buffys Swearing Keyboard is worse and your victim will be left very red faced.
- doublej42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A hack is anything that is an intelligent and creative solution to a problem that is not the normal way. It's only post Internet that the word really changed. Long live the old school hacker.
- TwizzleNicole, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Check out Buffys Swearing keyboard, a friend played a trick on me at uni, so embarrassing
- JiMiThInG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe the guy should have labeled the story a bit differently. However I don't think that makes the post not worthy. I think its a pretty funny prank. I have always been a sucker for gags like this though.
- zen.state, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1uhhh.. april fools is on april 1st which was a month ago...
- zimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
screwing with someones hardware is a good way to bring problems to your life. - vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1i know what you're saying but it's usually wordpress blogs which fail under high traffic.
i thinks its more a case of too many queries. - Cine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, where I to try this, the prank would eventually become that the owner of the keyboard now had a non-functioning one.
Really nice prank, though. Would be hilarious to watch. - Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I tried that first, and the problem was that there's not enough power going to the LED to power both, so the sound quality really sucked.
- brandonphillips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am so doing this to my father's keyboard! Last time I just changed the mapping to dvorak and watched the fun unfold.
- Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And a couple more Coral mirrors, if needed:
http://blog.mozmonkey.com.nyud.net:8090/2006/april_fools_hack/?mirror2
http://blog.mozmonkey.com.nyud.net:8090/2006/april_fools_hack/?mirror3 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Error establishing a database connection
that didn't take long - library.ninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This actually reminds me of a prank a friend and I pulled on someone. We took apart a talking simpsons watch (the Krusty the Clown one) and wired the chip and speaker in a Gamecube controller that I gave to my friend (the victim) for his birthday. It took him a couple of weeks to figure out where the "Whoo-hoo huh-huh Hi-ya kids!" was coming from everytime he turned his Gamecube on.
- Mozmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True, you could do that too and it will work adequately enough for the prank. The nice thing with this project is I tried the outer transistor pins in both positions and it worked the same; so it's not overly technical.
- bryant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Heh. Neat.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0IF you are going to SPAM digg with links to your blog, make sure that it can handle the traffic.
Aslo...Rememeber diggers...when a digg whore rears it ugly head, click on every ad sense link over and over again to get hte whore's account terminated for click fraud! - Cbeck527, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2WORDPRESS NEVER WORKS.....
I LIKE TO ABUSE THE CAPS LOCK KEY, LOL - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -38/+7i dropped a hammer on my nuts once
