- tbredofsin, on 10/22/2008, -4/+15I have little desire for an Eee, personally. It seems Asus has popularized the idea of a netbook, and I'll give them credit for that, but I'd rather get one of the new Dells (Ubuntu), an Acer Aspire One, or an MSI Wind. They all seem like better machines based on limited firsthand experience and lots of reviews.
- kenvsryu, on 10/22/2008, -0/+8definitely can't wait for atom dual core 2.
- twigboy, on 10/22/2008, -0/+8When you're Russian for food, theres no time for Stalin
- kenvsryu, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9love my AAO.
- expert01, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7It's no wonder you had problems with XP if your installations were 200 gigabytes!
- Beastmasta, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7We need those Atom 330 dual cores!
- JeffH, on 10/22/2008, -0/+6Right now the Eee seems to be setting itself up as the powerhouse netbook. The Eee 1000 is pretty spendy for a netbook, but the Mini 9 doesn't even give the option for more than 16GB integrated storage space.
But if I were to get a netbook I would go for the Mini 9 in a split second. It's the only netbook that doesn't look like a childrens toy. - jimrooney, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5They're not for everyone, but for those of us that they are for... they rock.
I absolutely love my eee. It's small, light and boots insanely fast. I travel a lot, so it's a dream machine. I have a much more powerful laptop, but it's been relegated to collecting dust. I just don't need that much horsepower on a day to day basis and far less when I'm traveling. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/22/2008, -3/+7Dugg down for inaccurate "opinion only" description (re: "the clear leader" hyperbole).
- distrachi, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4no, 200 megabytes != 200 gigabits.
- chudgoo, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4I use my Acer Aspire One as a portable MAME/emulator box mostly.
I'm using a PS3 Sixaxis controller (wireless/bluetooth) thanks to the instructions here :

Rocking some NeoGeo and Genesis in the woods is awesome. - Schmich, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4Weird, I like Asus way more than MSI, Dell and Acer as company and quality of products.
- jerkychew, on 10/22/2008, -1/+5FTA:
"Several skus of the Eee PC give customers numerous choices and allow them to find the Eee PC that best fits their needs."
That's the understatement of the WEEK. Asus has diluted the Eee brand so quickly that it's already used on netbooks, laptops, desktops and even monitors! I'm waiting for the Eee sub-toaster oven to be released! There are so many rediculous SKUs out there that it's almost impossible to know which number belongs to what spec. I believe that it's even more shaky with the 90x series because there's overlap that doesn't make any freaking sense.
Don't just take my word for it, go to the Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eee_pc, scroll down to the table(s) of specs, and try not to claw your eyes out in amazement. - collution, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4They even do this 2yr old ***** at 4chan.
- m0zzie, on 10/22/2008, -2/+5*****!
- borninda818, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4I have an Eee PC 901 and I love it. Stock OS was *****. Ubuntu was fast but a little too buggy for my taste when i got the Eee 3 months ago. XP was sluggish. Then I found a version of XP someone had slimmed down to under 200 GBs and it did the trick. I love my Eee because it has everything I could want from a normal laptop in a miniature, light, and power efficient case. I use it all the time and have since gotten used to typing with 4 fingers. Really, for the feature-set, it's the machine to have. webcam, awesome touchpad, wireless-N support, 1 GB RAM, and expandability. It has space for any average 1.8 inch laptop hdd (dead ipod off ebay). The screen is bright, battery is big, the underclocking feature is a lifesaver for a full day at school with no charger. And at it's new $500 price tag (opposed to 600) I think it's quite a bargain too. And to top it off, I've dropped it a few times (once on bricks) while it was on. Picked it up and continued working.
Sorry if i sound like I'm getting paid to say this. I just love my Eee PC. - krahzee, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3not even, I just have that as one of the things that drives me nuts. I clean the monitor, tv screens etc.. every week or so.
yes, I'm slightly OCD. LOL - 1hrSleep, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3I use it to take to class to take notes with and to browse when I'm in between things. Best of all, it's so easy to carry. I tried to carry around a full sized notebook and that got to be a chore. Then again, I carry around a 25lb folding bike so I'm a little crazy.
- chudgoo, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4The Acer Aspire One is still the best bang for the buck. First to market doesn't mean best.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3I got the asus eee pc 1000H and loved it, wireless N, and the battery life is amazing. The Atom processor, at first i was worried it would be like the celeron, but i was surprised to see that its speedy , i am very pleased.
- expert01, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4Office depot is now carrying the Acer One for $349 (the 3-cell battery version). XP Home, Atom processor, 1GB RAM (up to 1.5GB), 160GB storage space, VGA, 3 usb, ethernet, wireless, dial-up, card reader, webcam, microphone... pretty neat little system.
- jerkychew, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Really? I don't recall seeing Apple's Macbook-branded desktop or Dell's Lattitude-branded monitors.
- berfmurret, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2dell has pretty recently released a 12" multitouch tablet.. pretty nice LED display but the specs are seriously anemic and a middle of the run model goes for over $2k. i've kinda been jonesing for a multitouch tablet but i think i'll wait it out until the technology gets more commonplace and i can have my pick of the litter.
- krahzee, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Touch screen is a cool concept that would drive me nuts on a notebook.
Look, an iphone is one thing, you only use it for a few minutes 90% of the time, and wiping it clean of prints before watching a longer video is quick given the small size. A full size screen that I am going to sit and watch the way I do my monitor on my computer would drive me nuts though. - inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Hope its osx86 compatible =)
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Agreed. I don't understand this touch screen fad. While it's kinda cool, it's easier to type on a keyboard or move a mouse...I just don't get it.
- borninda818, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2200 megabytes...typo
- passedoutghost, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2You mean 200 mbs right?
- LastDitchHero, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2We don't do that here......
- chad9477, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2I'm writing this on my EEE, which has been my primary computer for about six months. The story above was an embarrassing PR piece, but the computers themselves are terrific if (and perhaps only if) you've got limited needs like mine: Web surfing, writing, and email along with a minimum of other bells and whistles, like an mp3 player. Four gigs of memory, 2.5 of which are taken up by the Linux OS, is not gonna please everybody. I've adjusted to the little keyboard with no problem. My stepdad, who has lumberjack fingers, wouldn't have it so easy.
- krahzee, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2certain applications in commercial industries make some sense (ATM Machines, self-check, etc), but for normal computer use, it just doesn't seem to be something I would want ofer the way it is now
- rockon4life45, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1I bought a 15.4" Asus Laptop and it is definitely the best laptop on the market for it's performance and performance to price ratio.
check it out:

OH YEAH! - mrsteveman1, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1What is?
- Elranzer, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1I didn't know they spoke Russian in Taiwan.
- arunforce, on 10/22/2008, -2/+3My bro got an 17" ASUS laptop last month from NewEgg. It's a pretty decent laptop. Has finger scanner (it works pretty well, but it's faster to type password IMO) and a face scanner (VERY BITCHY).
It's a pretty good laptop, except has a 3 hour lifespan with the battery they gave.
These small factor Laptops seem more like toys, you couldn't do any medium sized load if you wanted to. - Sylenus, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1same
- dig1x, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1You have a problem with choice?
- MattBD, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1I think Asus came out with the right product at the right time, and they're really making waves with it. Netbooks are ideal for students because they're so portable, and they're ideal for business people who don't want to carry around a full-sized laptop just to read email and edit a report or spreadsheet. The price makes them recession-friendly, and people love them.
The Linux-based ones also shred the old "Linux is too hard" thing because they come with it preinstalled. After all, how many people have had to edit their xorg.conf to get something working on it, or have compiled a new kernel? Only people who like tinkering with them.
I think Asus's other Eee products are also quite revolutionary, like the small form factor Eee Box and the touchscreen one. The Eee Box is probably ideal as a cheap second computer, or for Grandma. - southeastbeast, on 10/22/2008, -6/+7Do want! Been wanting a EEE since it's release.... I hate being a broke student. rofl. But that posting of the EEE's birthday and dropping the 9" version to $299 may seal the deal if I can sell my PS3. Now I have to figure out EEE vs Android (using BBpearl atm, and no current laptop =(
- Tenoq, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1One of the Dells would be alright, but no way I'd buy an Acer or MSI. Acer has pathetic warranty support (in Aus) and generally their laptops seem to be cheap crap. I have to fix far too many. MSI lost the plot years ago... back around the K8 era. No, Asus is the only one who provides decent warranty support and has a fairly polished little unit.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1krahzee, agreed, but why are touch screens showing up for home COMPUTER use? It's great on a fridge, or on a dish washer or washing machine, but a home PC?
akimbo WTF!!??? How is typing on a screen with your hands easier than using a keyboard? - TVarmy, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Someone installed Leopard on a Wind, but the applications were too big to fit on the screen. Snow Leopard is also rumored to have apps that better scale to different window sizes, so netbook bootlegging of OSX may become more popular.
- wondertwins, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1How do u actually say ASUS correctly?
- FuzzyCat, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1
"ASUS UK request the pleasure of your company for the UK launch of their ground-breaking Bamboo Notebook and Touch-screen Eee Top PC at the Stuff Live Consumer Electronics show." - john2kx, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Asses.
- john2kx, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1ooh, it's cold! That kind of feels good.. Wait, why did my nose just fall off?
- SteveMax, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1What, 200 milibits? Is that even possible‽
- arunforce, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1He got the 17" one of this one.
