- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -4/+46Always been an AMD fan, for price and features. To me, AMD is like Adidas and Intel is like Nike. Intel gets little boys in China to make boards for them for 12 cents a day. Just kidding Intel. Not kidding Nike!
- louiebaur, on 09/03/2008, -2/+30Oh yeah, AMD is back in the game just when you thought they were dead
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -2/+21AMD is pretty cool :) I'll stick with Intel for now though.
- GrandmaSheila, on 09/03/2008, -12/+30Been a satisfied AMD user since 2001 with a K6-2 500mhz. Then Durons, Semprons and the latest PC is running a dual core Athlon 64 bit processor. Intels are overpriced and overstated.
- tnerd, on 09/03/2008, -3/+17AMD rocks!
This msg is not just for the heck of it.. but I really mean it.. AMD ROCKS!~ - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+14I have always been nervous to go with AMD....Intel has brainwashed me. I need to reevaluate.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+12I had the 700 - those things were beasts.
- aksn1p3r, on 09/04/2008, -1/+11Oh yea, AMD COME BACK BABY!
- fani, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10Longtime AMD fan. However, now use Intel Core2 Duo and Q6000. Still have my last AMD purchase - AMD 3700+. So I guess Intel fan as well. Today, intel makes the best chips.
And to be really honest, I don't really care who makes the chip as long as I get the best bang for my buck. - MacBookForMe, on 09/03/2008, -1/+10Business competition could be very healthy for our wallet :)
- jcorn1, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10AMD....yesssss!
- stk198323, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6Thank you sir for the chance of burying you twice!
- jstem1994, on 09/04/2008, -1/+5I got into AMD when they were the easy $$ choice vs features. K6-2 350mhz, then an Athlon XP 1800+ for years (till last year really), and now a gently used AMD64 754 from eBay. Someday I'll afford the newest pimpest dual/quad/whatever cores...
Still own stock too. Bought it just before the AMD64 first came out, made a little $ off of that, thanks AMD! - paraforce, on 09/04/2008, -1/+5Better battery life on laptops with the Intel though.
- TechCF, on 09/04/2008, -2/+6Kinda AMD fan too, although the Slot A CPU's where crap (often poor chipsets). I loved the Durons, and the X2 processors. Now I like them for the crossfire technology and for having the memory controller in the processor. I think both solutions are great for the consumer and help you get a more efficient system.
Although I agree the performance sometimes is a bit behind Intel, which is kinda like NVIDIA which just makes bigger and fatter chips. (Think electric cars vs. v8 cars) - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+5I have to agree, I have the E4400 and it's been running at 3GHz (from 2.0) since the day I got it. That's a 1GHz or 50% gain, for nothing. The best thing is the performance scales very well with the frequency, so a 1GHz gain is truly a big improvement.
I've got AMD at home, I've got Intel at home. The x2 BE-2350 powers the HTPC and it works well because it's a cheap solution with a neat motherboard that does everything I need. The Intel C2D is the real powerhouse though, and with the E8xxx series there would be no reason to buy an AMD if you're an enthusiast.
I'm really hoping AMD can bounce back, for competition and innovations sake. But the OP saying that Intel are overpriced and overstated is just wrong, they are extremely cost effective and even the low end parts like the Pentium dual-core's have a lot of potential bottled up inside of them. - Darksoul, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Your a moron nvida would not have lowered all the prices on their cards for no reason all the people moving from nvida to ati would suggest that I suggest next time you open your mouth check your stats.
- homer4199, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4Only thing looking good for AMD is there GPU line. If i7 is as good as they say it is AMD will have to pull something really nice and cheap out of their ass.
- ReidFleming, on 09/04/2008, -2/+5This may be a simplistic reason but I have an easier time with AMD's heatsink/fan installation and I stick with what's least complicated. Lame, I know.
- Spuy767, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4Short answer: Probably not beat, but it may keep them in the game, which is good for our pocketbooks.
- Darksoul, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3How can you not follow what happens on the desktop but follow whats on the laptop seeing everything that ends up on a desk top goes to the laptop..... Anyway what ever floats your boat but you have no idea what you are missing.
- Darksoul, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Then your a fan-boy plain and simple people like you really bug me there is no reason to stick with only one brand you go where you get the most bang for your buck at the time when AMD released the XP line it was with them now with Core 2 Duo's its not shifted to Intel if you stick to one brand just because some insane logic of loyality then your a moron plain and simple.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Sheila you are high off your ass.
The ENTIRE AMD line right now is getting destroyed by intels that offer far more power for the same amount of money.
On the high end AMD has absolutely nothing. At all. The Q6600 keeps up with every single Phenom at stock speeds! And I've got mine clocked to 3.4!
There's literally no reason to be buying AMD right now. The people who are? Fanboys, all of them. You have no idea how many people I talk to every day parroting the same old AMD *****, that was 100% true from the turn of the century up until the last couple years. The fact of the matter is AMD is no longer cheaper nor better, and ANYONE actively involved in the market knows this. - Darksoul, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Nothing in the freaking article says its going to do anything special ***** seriously what makes the new core 2 duo's great is the pricing and the performance last time I checked the FX processors cost-ed alot of ***** money. Don't get me wrong I am no Intel fan-boy ***** I am still using my amd 3700+ but the FX line was always so freaking expensive unless they plan on bringing down the price it wont work.
- kernel16, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3Yes fanboy, sad. Love my FX-60.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2Not entirely lame. I've successfully damaged two Intel heatsink/fans because of the stupid push-pin mechanism. It causes the boards to flex way too much, not to mention once they're in, there's crap all chance of getting them out safely. I know some people who agree and some who disagree, but putting together an AMD build is heavenly, just because of the HSF locks.
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/04/2008, -3/+5Overpriced and overstated? First of all I am not saying this as a fanboy but as an enthusiast which is now becoming a big part of the market. Nothing will ever compare to the affordability of Intel. Considering they are now getting standard 1 Ghz+ overclocks on their sub-$175 Wolfdale processors and the aged Q6600 is still pulling its own weight against the rival Phenom. Even as far back as the Celeron 300a , you could get that juiced by 150 Mhz, atleast! Those were the days...
I bought a lowly E4300 processor on my last PC upgrade due to the potential it had for this reason. Before that, I always had AMD processors. In about 6 minutes I took it from 1.8 Ghz to 3.15 Ghz and that's pretty damn exciting for a (then) $140 processor which I still use today.
Again, speaking as an enthusiast but with AMD you were always very limited in the overclock potential. Even the Black series yields after minor tweaks while the Q6600 has a "OC to 3ghz for free" kind of deal. The E8400 Wolfdale will blow any current Phenom out of the water unless it's used for applications which support Quadcore architecture because of its potential. I do not say that to start a fight but as someone who is just revisiting the documented facts from this perspective.
I go where I can get my moneys worth and it's priceless when you run into someone who paid oodles of cash for a top end cpu...only to hear one which costs a fraction of the price can perform the same.
Above all else though AMD put themselves in this position by sitting on their hands during the X2 days and allowed Intel to push out the Conroe with nothing to answer with. Before the Conroe, AMD was king. - Cherubim, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2AMD user here. My main box runs an X2 5600+ and my client machine uses an older Athlon XP 2200+. My notebook is a centrino chipset Core2 Duo - runs better than the Turion X2 I tested.
- waydee, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Was a big fan of AMDs back in the K6-2, Slot A Athlons and the first Athlon XP eras but since then I've just been using laptops where Intel have by far the best chips and chipsets. I gather the core 2 is pretty much the best on the desktop too these days but can't really say I follow what goes on there anymore.
Hope they can bounce back, I'd really like to see them come out with something like the original Athlon again but feel they need to put more focus on beating Intel in the mobile market. - timxpx, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3"Plus, those AM2 processors are just way easier and less prone to accident when installing compared to those wacky LGA Intel chips."
not to say that either chip company is better or worth because I've switched back and forth over the years... but LGA775 CPUs don't have pins-- i don't see how you can screw that up. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Nothing in this article indicates the new FXs will do anything special. The only information IN this article is what they'll be called.
I don't care about the name. The name is the last thing you come up with. Apparently the manager of the development team had his slides backwards and didn't want to admit he was wrong when one of his guys pointed this out.
Tell me when it comes out and show me some benchmarks. If it's better than the intel, then great. If not, I'll stick with i7. - musicsky, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Before Intel Launching Core 2, AMD was better, but now, AMD is way behind Intel. The same price brand, Intel perform much better than AMD
- phavn, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Very informative message
- Elranzer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1"Beating" Intel is impossible. AMD can only hope to maybe capture 10%-20% of Intel's market share, at best. Intel is just too established out there, especially in the market of OEM vendors.
- Elranzer, on 09/04/2008, -2/+3I've always admired Intel when they come up with new, awesome technologies. But I've never bought anything other than AMD. Just when I'm about to buy anything Intel (at NewEgg, most likely), there's an AMD equivalent there to buy for literally half the price in some cases.
Plus, those AM2 processors are just way easier and less prone to accident when installing compared to those wacky LGA Intel chips. - drgruney, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1@TechCF

What?!?! - KolosoK, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Woo! I just sold my FX-55 computer two months ago :) That thing kicked so much ass for how long it lasted.
- musicsky, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Where did you heard that in China? That's not true. 12 cents can buy nothing in China now. Totally no idea where did it come from. Seeing is believe. You'd better come to China

http://www.dirics.org/ - JonForTheWin, on 09/04/2008, -6/+2Meanwhile intel is raping AMD in the GPU market as far as any one using GNU/Linux (and big business sure ***** are, diskless workstations in the "vertical market" popping up ***** everywhere) is concerned.
RadeonHD is vaporware until AMD figures out it maybe it's a good idea to support one's own hardware. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -19/+0Then a cpu should be 30 $, haha
