- frgmstr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39I submit stories to digg that I think digg users will find informative. The article above has information that is yet to be found at any other website (at least at time of posting) the same as the AMD/ATI ariticle from Monday had.

We make sure that we do not submit any articles that we do not think are digg worthy. That of course does not mean that others do not submit them. I think I am a healthy contributor to digg, I am sorry you do not see it that way. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The vast majority of your submissions make the front page, so obviously somebody likes 'em.
- michaelothomas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20I actually tend to agree...not that HardOCP has bad content...it's just kind of obnoxious to see Kyle submitting every single story to digg every single day of the week...I'd like to think that if the article was worthwhile, someone else would post it before the site owner...
If he was posting articles from other sites that'd be different, but this is just one person using digg as their own personal traffic generation system...kinda lame imho - userundefine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Something on the future for Linux drivers would've been appreciated...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10When will you utter IDIOTS learn that most thinking ppl will completely ignore what you say when you refer to microsoft as M$!
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"while the company tries to find a way to compete now that it's standing alone."
I thought this was strange. Nvidia is better than ATI right now if you ask me. Finding a way to compete? They have a better product. I hope AMD can breathe some new life into ATI. - akkuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This article is a load of bullocks on NVIDIA! I submitted this article, http://digg.com/tech_news/NVIDIA_s_Response_to_AMD_ATi_Merger which clearly from their perspective is beneficial to them.
Honestly, I don't know how much I would trust from this article when the word from the horses mouth is that they like this deal! - UrsusMorologus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Seems to me that the fascination with ATI is completely backwards...
Vista, XGL, OS/X are all raising the bar on graphics much higher. This is going to be a huge boon to ATI and NVIDIA--they are going to be doubling sales at least within the next 18 months.
AMD needs more reliable cash flow and better growth upside, and graphics chipsets provide that.
ATI, if they had an interest here, was in getting a good deal from a hungry AMD. But they aren't the story here, not by a long shot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is great and all, but I think what the geeks are REALLY clamoring for at this point are some decent ATI Linux drivers that fully support OpenGL among other things.
- digitalsheep, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9There is no source cited in this article; bad form and no digg, regardless if the information is widely available.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Hector Ruiz, AMD's CEO, made this completely clear on the conference call that announced the merger. He stated that AMD wanted to increase choice in the market,"
Uh-huh. - carrotflower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love ATI - I have a more than a few of their video cards, but if you think this post is linking to reliable independant information you need to have your head examined. Just read the copy for god sake - it's a press release. No specifics, no details, just management speak. We'll see as we go forward whether the merger is good or bad for the company and for consumers, but frankly, the only purpose of this blog posting is to try to rally those who have put a lot of emotional stock into the ATI brand-name. We're being manipulated. And just for future reference, ATI no longer exists - it has been purchased - there is only AMD, now a CPU and GPU manufacturer - there is no such thing as ATI - it is a brand in name only.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Reads like PR speak to me.
- Drealoth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Imagine that! People only releasing games for the current OS - what is the world coming to? And there hasn't been a single Nintendo Wii title released either, so that one's definitely going to be a flop too.
- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"Nvidia has seen the writing on the wall, and doesn't like what it's saying. The PC market is a tough place to be without any friends. ATI now has all the resources of AMD behind it, and will be producing faster, more compact GPUs and reaching the channel more effectively than ever before. Nvidia's words are bravado, designed to confuse the market while the company tries to find a way to compete now that it's standing alone."
Besides the Fab capacity, AMD doesn't have much more resources than NVIDIA.
Keep posting, people will digg it if it's good. - AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope nVidia makes it out of this alright.....
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i think this is the only [h] article i've seen posted on digg that was actually useful.
- hayate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think it's the same source as the dailytech.com article, ATI's official Street News Flash.
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3524 - daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Talk about spin
"There is no truth to the rumor that Intel has pulled ATI's chipset license. We continue to ship Intel chipsets under license."
The rumor wasn't that they pulled their license it was that they will not be renewing the license. Notice how they don't say that they will develop any new chipsets for Intel platforms? - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I hope nVidia makes it out of this alright....."
I suspect they will, but I fear for the future of AMD/nVidia compatibility. Although I'm sure it'll still be possible to have an AMD CPU and nVidia GPU, what will happen as far as nForce motherboards go? - muyuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@>michaelothomas
Actually, it's for the best that the authors post them, because they get here sooner rather than later. People are not forced to digg them anyway.
The thing is, digg's #1 asset is that it gets things really soon. Other than that, digg doesn't provide much: no expert editors, no thoughtful comments (mainly because it's too darned fast). I like it this way. - josh1413, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What if AMD bought Nvidia too? :P
- michaelothomas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Indeed, this is completely PR spin if you ask me. No doubt AMD's knowledge will help ATi...but ATi also just stepped over to the AMD side only days before Intel mops the floor with them...I personally don't expect too much out of the merger...and nVidia doesn't really need anyone's help...they've been 'standing alone' since day one, and have had no problem dominating ATi for much of their history...
- jmnormand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ill agree, in the long run amd definatly gains alot more from this than ati. not only the additional revenue of ati but also a mean of really fighting back at intle in the moble market.
- pantuky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with just about everything I read there.
- GrizzlyWG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope ATI makes it out of this alright. I feel like this is a good thing for them. At least they weren't bought out by a competitor. I really liked the Voodoo cards back in the day and Aureal audio. This all brings up bad memories for some reason.
- suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well this is some good news for me as I am an ATI - Intel person.
- GlenL22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The article had nothing that was new to me. Everything in it was already covered by previous news postings.
- Brennan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nvidia will continue to support AMD cpus, it would be stupid for them not to. AMD has not taken their license away from them or anything. How would it hurt nvidia at all if they continued making AMD boards?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel it is unseemly for AMD/ATI to comment on NVidia's internal memo.
Otherwise, good article I figure. - fyrestrtr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Honestly, I didn't find anything useful in this article, nothing that dispelled any 'rumors' so no digg from me.
Sounds like somone copy pasted some marketing spin. I was expecting it to be longer and a bit more detailed. - zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Arramo
Does Intel make motherboards with integrated graphics chips? Does Nvidia make motherboards for intel that use their own integrated graphics chips, or have no integrated graphics at all?
Really, do you think Nvidia will say "Yes, we surrender this large portion of the market."? - KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Rumours are well earned, this whole process is obscure and to some extend not justifiable.
Shameless plug: http://kcorax.blogsome.com/2006/07/26/amd-ati-the-return-of-the-whole-widget/ - Jackal187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pimpin' ain't easy
- tmcdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1back before the split two gpu camps, there were several graphics cards makers all doing their own thing... and it was a race to see which company could 'one-up' the competition... eventually the small players got widdled out, and there were 3-4 serious contenders... remember Trident Video cards... ? They were a gamers wet dream back in the day...
So, for the last 8-9 years we've had two camps left... nvidia chipset, and ati chipset. For a while nvidia was the popular card, but like Intel, eventually got greedy and raised prices out of control... and eventually the cards didn't live up to the hype... but to nvidia's credit.. now that's ATI's public relations problem... I haven't upgraded anything beyond socket 754... except a 250gb hd (going on 2 years ago). Since then there have been 2 socket changes, a good dozen pci-express (oh did I forget 1 graphics bus change) cards since then.. and I STILL CAN"T FIND A REASON TO UPGRADE FROM A RADEON 9600 256mb graphics card!!! (aside from about the number of programs I can count on my fingers)
**Now, about the merger: I am very skeptical about AMD taking ATI.... it does nothing to bolster the marketplace.. it will most likely save the combined companies some money in r&d, but that's about it. We will not stop seeing graphics card prices moving through the roof (which is to say above the pricepoint of $250)
what is needed in the marketplace is a refocus on the consumer... you can't get people to buy graphics cards if there isn't an application rich need for them--sorry to reiterate this fundamental law of supply and demand but if there is no demand for a $600 video card.. they will sooner or later have to stop making them. Now, if we could just get the retarded people who buy this crap to stop buying it!!! Go buy a second plasma tv for christ sakes! - copernic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dream: I'm CEO of AMD and thinking, gpu's look good!
Hate to state it so obviously but graphics are already so good, it's irrelevant. - mc900ftjesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm glad the Digg police are out in full force. Thanks for letting us know the unofficial rules about posting your own stuff guys. You've made the Internet a safer and more friendly to your personal tastes. And shown the rest of us that you are a couple of giant douches.
- copernic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It looks exceptionally stupid, is the conventional wisdom.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7@ Brickster STFU, I digg his stories (and so do alot of people) because I l(and others) like them and they are informative.
- babbling, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3If you don't like it, don't digg it.
- sbrown123, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Thanks for putting the article out there. Yes, it is very informative. Hopefully this will put to bed some of the false rumors swirling around digg about the AMD+ATI merger.
- thegreenman66, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2I dont think Vista will impact GPU sales for at least two years, and that is only if M$ can pull it out of their a$$es. All indicators say Vista is already a flop, and OS/X is not going to drive GPU sales because there just aren't enough high end games for OS/X. High end Games drive GPU sales, and those games are being written for windows XP almost exclusively.
- Brickster, on 10/12/2007, -40/+14Pimping your own story Kyle? Sad man, sad. Really, if you want this to go anywhere you should try not posting Announcements about it on Hardforum, try letting Digg work the way it was intended; without your influence from the outside.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -41/+6Would you please stop whining. Don't like th article, do read it or post a comment. God, it is real ***** simple.
