66 fans in one PC cabinet
gizmodise.com — It's definitely one of the most weirdest PC mod I have ever seen. As you can see the case is made entirely out of cooling fans. Weird ahh? The PC case makes use of 66 normal fans which keeps the machine ice cold - (over exaggerating it). I'm sure the designer will have couple of ear plugs to avoid the noise that will be generated when all the 66

- iofthestorm, on 11/26/2007, -1/+4Not necessarily, if they are all on low speeds it might not be that loud. Also they might not all be on or plugged in to the power supply, just there for show.
- Twoodge, on 11/26/2007, -3/+43Still not as loud as my 360.
- humanabyss1, on 11/26/2007, -14/+2NO!, "THIS, IS, SPARTAAA!

- Techtalkz, on 11/26/2007, -3/+3yeah... I wonder how much will be the noise ratio... 60 db ? or more
- ferrariman60, on 11/26/2007, -2/+2What's a noise ratio? If you mean total volume of 60db, the dell my family owns (NOT the computer this is being typed on) had a fan in the back that is rated to make ~63 db at full volume, which it was doing a lot of the time, since the mobo is probably shot. I replaced it with 2 80mm fans, much better- point is, I doubt even that many fans could put out 60 db. That's a lot not noise.
- TheMidnight, on 11/26/2007, -1/+7What?
- HardwareWeenie, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1ferrariman60 you left out "SPL" at the end of your dB measurements. Without a suffix a dB number is always a ratio of two numbers. When you add Sound Pressure Level (SPL) you clarify your units. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_pressure 60 dB SPL is equivalent to the upper end of Normal talking at 1 m.

- etsa, on 11/26/2007, -5/+2How much the power consumption.. those are big fans... WOOOOooooooooooo
- mhearne, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Probably a 1000 to 1200 Watt server supply. That's another thing he'd have to fit in there; where does the mobo go?
- Maddjonesy, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0It says the power consumption on the page! Try reading it next time...
"power consumption (1.25 * 66 ) = 82.5 watts"

- StickWST, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Fans go WOO WOOOOOOO!
- DefaultGen, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1I was thinking that myself.

- Flummoxer, on 11/26/2007, -10/+4The air won't even circulate well.
- Techtalkz, on 11/26/2007, -0/+11Well it depends on how the fans are connected,
Say if right side pannel fans are acting as air remover (exhaust) and left side pannel fans are acting as air blowers ( bringing air inside ) then there is great advantage of air circulation
- Techtalkz, on 11/26/2007, -0/+11Well it depends on how the fans are connected,
- mattewood, on 11/26/2007, -2/+37"The PC case makes use of 66 normal fans which keeps the machine ice cold - (over exaggerating it)."
Funny.. though the best it could ever do is bring the hardware down to room temperature.. although that's almost impossible.

- Techtalkz, on 11/26/2007, -2/+7yeah power consumption will be another issue,
considering one fan consumes 1.25 watt then 66 will take 82.5 watt, which is more than a normal graphic card- mhearne, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1Don't forget that he'll also need 66 power resistors for voltage distribution.
- bassgoonist, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Well, high performance graphics cards are starting to get into the 200 watt range.
He could easily do multiple power supplies.
- bassgoonist, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Well, high performance graphics cards are starting to get into the 200 watt range.
- Firehed, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Uhh... high-end graphics cards are pulling in over 150w these days. Which is nicely countered by the fact that most 120mm fans (as those appeared to be) draw generally 4-6w, putting the fans at around the 250w mark if they're all at full power.
It doesn't matter though... for the cost of all those fans, you could put together a REALLY nice watercooling system, or maybe even phase change (which, while ugly as hell, gets sub-zero temperatures).
- mhearne, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1Don't forget that he'll also need 66 power resistors for voltage distribution.

- marsbar, on 11/26/2007, -1/+0Funny thing is that this setup may not provide much cooling at all. If all the fans blow out there will be very low pressure inside the case but not much air flow. Cooling happens when there is air flow (warm air gets replaced with cooler air). The only thing this will do is create a low pressure zone in the case but it will still get hot. Think of it this way, if you have a paper towel roll with a fan blowing air in at one end and another fan blowing air out at the other end you get great air flow and cooling. If you have the same roll but with both fans blowing in (high pressure inside) or both fans blowing out (low pressure inside) you get no air flow and no heat transfer. Depending on how the fans are configured on this case it may look crappy and work crappy too.

No, that's a totally incorrect assumption, and I'm amazed someone didn't point it out.
Rather than argue the thermal engineering, I suggest you open up one of those Wegan car food coolers for a graphic demonstration; it's nothing but a fan and heatsink thermally coupled to a metal tub, and it definitely gets the contents below ambient temperature. - LavaWarrior, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0Perfect! Airlines are too dangerous anyways, and this will be way cheaper, plug it in, and you're off.
- PhaseSix, on 11/30/2007, -0/+0Wow, I bet the temps are pretty good, but jeez i pitty the person who has to sit there for more than 30 mins, without a headphone. The only possible way you could make it quiet is if you get quality fans, and not the cheap get-me-by fans.
