- sandburn, on 06/16/2008, -5/+33Man, I thought that the all-electric car couldn't get any better!
- LoudMusic, on 06/16/2008, -3/+21Hrm, by the title I was hoping for a second generation Tesla Roadster. That would have been cooler to me.
- Civil, on 06/16/2008, -0/+13Peter Norton's software can easily use any amount of processing power. In fact, one of these is probably required hardware for Norton 2009.
- Rikkochet, on 06/16/2008, -0/+13Because he was setting up another tired Crysis joke and nobody's biting.
- leerayIG88, on 06/16/2008, -2/+13Because he said so.
- teddyrux, on 06/16/2008, -0/+9Can it blend?! Can it blend?! It's "Will it blend?" If you're going to be inane, at least do so correctly.
- superjunaid, on 06/16/2008, -1/+9Why won't we be able to use this performance?
- 404NF, on 06/16/2008, -4/+8no idea what this means.
I'm going to reset the time on my mom's VCR so I can feel 'technical' again... - Lososaurus, on 06/16/2008, -0/+4More everything....except for outputs.
- PeterNorton, on 06/16/2008, -4/+7If we only could use this performance?
- magamiako, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2Yodajones:
There has to be a deeper technical reason as to why we're just not replacing Intel's CPUs with Nvidia's GPUs. Granted, there isn't really much out there for CUDA development and the idea of "GPGPU" is a VERY new thing, but with the numbers off the charts like these I can't imagine why more and more software development isn't getting invested into using them over the internal general purpose CPU.
There has to be a reason that unfortunately unless you're a CPU Engineer (or just that much of a bookworm), you wouldn't be able to catch. - Zemnexx, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2Nvidia kicks ass noob.
- RandyGandy, on 06/16/2008, -1/+3i just think of command and conquer: red alert
- WolverineBlue, on 06/16/2008, -1/+3Well, I know that digg isn't really the place to get a question like this answered anymore, but just what are the architectural differences between the new teslas and the gtx 280 that warrant over $1000 difference in price tags? They both have a peak of about 1 TFLOP and are based on the same design so it seems that they hardly could've made enough changes to get over double the performance of the consumer GT200 core.
- MarkusX, on 06/16/2008, -1/+3The numbers are very impressing, but is it possible to put one of these in my home computer??
It probably only makes sense in a super computer in some university or the like! - Giga, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2This isn't all that useful to gamers...
- warpbackspin, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Because the last time someone tried something similar (Intel's i860 in 1989) it was a complete disaster.
- YodaJones, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I remember the Intel i860. Hauppauge was one of the few companies who made a motherboard for it. It is a shame that this chip never took off it was a monster.
Most kids here on Digg are too young to know that when the Pentium series started the floating point processor was a separate chip and motherboards had a socket for it. The i286 had the floating point companion i287 as did the i386 with it's i387. I believe this practice was discontinued around the Pentium 2 series.
Interestingly, the Next computer had a DSP chip on the motherboard. It is a pity that this practice never caught on because DSP's are able to perform many types of calculations and the ability to mimic various types of add-in cards such as modems and voice recognition. - colto, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1It's because while GPUs are very powerful in the processing sector, most of these operational speeds are limited to floating point computation. Should we see this type of speed available for general computing then you can bet your life AMD and ATI are going to be racing to be the first one selling them.
- YodaJones, on 06/16/2008, -1/+2I applaud Nvidea for doing this development. Intel's proposal of video on the CPU is weak and would dumb down computing. Nvidea's solutions lend themselves to replacing today's CPUs with more powerful processors.
- Zemnexx, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1This card may not be targeted at gamers but its based off the new GTX series of card so its gonna kick ass either way.
- YodaJones, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I believe that this may be a compiler issue. Also mainstream operating systems and programs may need some rewriting to accommodate these GPUs as CPUs.
- KMartSheriff, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1Digg cared, before it turned into a giant political/4chan orgy.
*sigh* Those were the good days. - Elizar, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1Nerdgasm!!
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+1right, that's what she said
- Giga, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0Probably mainly firmware tweaks and different target markets...
- Giga, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0That would be the worst thing they could do. With the lack of competition the technology would stagnate and prices would go up.
- Zemnexx, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1I care, computer enthusiasts, and Gamers care.
- aserer511, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1cmon put the nail in ATI's coffin already!
- cathpah, on 06/16/2008, -2/+1Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs.
blockin up the scenery
breaking my mind
do this
don't do that
can't you read the siiiigns?!
(sorry...when i read "tesla" that damn song popped right into my head) - iJessicaRabbit, on 06/16/2008, -2/+1Same. I was hoping for: Second Gen Tesla: 1/2 the price of first gen. without loosing the sexiness and amazing performance :)
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1[Token Crysis Performance Joke]
- Giga, on 06/17/2008, -1/+0How many PS3's do you think you can buy for the price of one Tesla 10? My guess is more than 5. It is still a decent processor for it's price.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -4/+2folding@home performance

lol @ you nubs who think the cell is some sort of processing powerhouse. - ezran, on 06/16/2008, -6/+4ATI and AMD just made it to front page too....
Hmm... Too much GPU-that-I-cannot-afford story in a day... - chibimmy, on 06/16/2008, -5/+2The real question is; Will it blend?
- Dylson, on 06/16/2008, -4/+1Who cares?
- rileyhallwood, on 06/16/2008, -5/+1nary a dude was exchanged.
- winmywii, on 06/16/2008, -6/+1You can bury me, LoudMusic already covered this.
- choppa1890, on 06/16/2008, -9/+1The most important question is: Can it blend?
- goeric, on 06/16/2008, -12/+4But can it run Crysis?
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -11/+0NVIDIA just sucks.

What is Digg?
