- WriterSD, on 11/20/2008, -1/+21He's a great example. I wish there were more people who are honest like him!
- Chainheart2, on 11/21/2008, -0/+16When you've got 7 million dollars but aren't greedy enough to lose integrity in this situation, you earn my respect
- serif69, on 11/21/2008, -0/+12Stand up guy. I hope he does well enough on the Tour that he won't need to go back to Q School, but having to qualify for every tournament sucks.
- ksalminen, on 11/21/2008, -0/+12It takes balls to admit something like J.P did. Props to him for having true sportsmanship!
- gi0rgi0s, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9Bobby Jones did something similar:

- ksalminen, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6No, pun definitely intended.
- neocr0n, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5I HATE it when people cheat in sports and lets face it there is a lot of it! This makes a refreshing change.
- rlarkin0220, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4The greatest game there is.
You really think so?
Ask anybody. It's fun, it's hard...
...and you stand on the green grass, and it's just you and the ball.
There ain't nobody to beat up on but yourself.
Just like Mr. Nunan keeps hitting himself with the club when he's angry.
He's broken his toe three times on account of it.
It's the only game you can call penalty on yourself.
If you're honest, which most people are.
There just ain't no other game like it.
Legand of Bagger Vance... - J3TTY, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4"You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank"
- diamondg14, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4It takes true stones to put your moral's in front of what truly benefits you. I play frequently at "Reid Municipal" where he grew up playing and always here stories about how "normal and laid back" he is. J,P, will get what he deserves, and that will be his tour card in a year or two.
- hooah212002, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2You hate it because you suck at it. How else can you "hate" a sport? What has golf ever done to you? Oh, thats right, it made you throw your $20 K-Mart clubs in the river because you are a hack.
Opinions are like *****: yours ***** stinks. - stevenjchang, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2um,
i think the rule is RETARDED
it's completely LITERAL, i mean, come on
he used a non-sanctioned ball (but probably the same specs as a sanctioned ball). It didn't help him get a better score. He didn't do it on purpose, and he admitted to it, without being accused (unheard of in sports, saintly, almost)
He can't play for a YEAR? come on now - mmx2000, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I read this description and thought: Who the hell is JP Hayes, what does "non-conforming ball" mean, what the ***** is Q-School.
How the hell is this FP material? - hooah212002, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2followed by Clemens, right?
- Digital.Totem, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3Mark Twain said Golf is a good walk ruined. I agree with that, I hate golf I subscribe to the notion that it's called golf because all the good four letter words were taken. I could care less if he used a ping-pong ball or a super-bounce ball. That being said, I applaud him for being honest.
- WetDaddy, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2So, he called Houston and said "We have a problem"...?
Awesome. - hooah212002, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I assume you didn't get the memo that had the /s attached.
- mal1964, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2Runner up; Barry Bonds
- aherman, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Killer stanza! Try prose one of these days.
- sirket, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2This is just stupid. These rules
are meant to prevent people from
cheating and gaining an unfair
advantage. He gained nothing by using
this ball for a single hole, and in fact lost
two strokes. How does this make Golf a
better sport? This isn't honesty, it's self
flagellation. We need to stop acting like even
an honest mistake has to have dire
consequences. It was an honest mistake,
no harm was done, move on with your life. - golfguypar72, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1I have been playing golf over forty years most of it as a golf professional and it is to bad there is not more of that kind of integrity in our sports world today...he will be fine...someone I would like to have as a friend.
- mal1964, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1No its Cal Ripken, Jr.

Whatever happened to you to not have integrity and character when it comes to a game of golf. He did the right thing and it obviously takes someone better than you to see that.
- andybrowngolf, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1This one story sums up why golf is the best sport in the world. Period.
- bannonto, on 11/21/2008, -2/+1No pun intended-right?
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+1I know this guy is negative but he speaks the truth. No one is going to be damaged by this but him. And the upside? Maybe a few people will be inspired by this and hurt themselves while many more will take it as a lesson to keep their mouths shut.
- bxbomber, on 11/21/2008, -3/+2I'll say it he's an idiot, chance to better yourself and your family.
I would have kept quiet and kept it to myself - deezp1, on 11/21/2008, -4/+2If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying...
- noheadhorseman, on 11/21/2008, -11/+2OK... What sport is this again?.... (its a sport right- golf?, i see it came from yahoo sports but beyond that i am lost)
J.P. Hayes sounds like a nice guy though! - Winkleman, on 11/20/2008, -39/+6Sounds more like stupidity to me.... the only person he hurt was himself.
