- Pzycho, on 08/28/2008, -1/+11Yogi, I don't think the ranger is gonna like this...
- tinybubs, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6Translation: Since the author has shown Yellowstone is not an imminent threat he needs some impact statement at the end of the article to keep his hundreds of thousands of dollars in research grants he gets every year so he can spend the rest of his career trekking though a national park. Of course this diverts money from places that really need more geological study such as Mt. Rainier, the San Andreas Fault, and New Madrid area, but I guess these other places don't matter.
- Phearce, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6FTA: "It would be a mistake to write off Yellowstone as a 'dead' volcano."
- tinybubs, on 08/28/2008, -7/+11I guess this means mankind won’t be buried under tons of ash by an eruption of a supervolcano in the near future, but scientists said it was going to happen!
I’ll just have to wait for global warming, the bird flu, a black hole from the CERN large Hadron Collider, an asteroid collision, or the return of the dreaded disco fever to wipe humanity off the face of the Earth. - bubba9999, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Disco fever was awesome. You'll see.
The clothes were better too. - elementop, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3What kind of precautions would you recommend?
IMHO, it's better to spend time and effort worrying about things that you can affect. - thegrantman, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Disco fever isn't fatal. Painful.......but not fatal.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Ya know. They throw people like you into Volcanoes during ritual sacrifices.
- oli35, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3grow up
- vilago, on 08/28/2008, -1/+3i'll bet a volcanic eruption of that magnitude 600K years ago would have cause major global changes

Nuff said - Gimjee, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2If this thing ever blows, we're screwed. The US would be almost completely owned, then the clouds from that would block out the sun for a good long time. I wonder why no one has taken any precaution to "what if" this happened yet.
- zspitfire04, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1I believe the Discovery Channel already covered this.
- zspitfire04, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1I believe the Discovery Channel covered something like this before.
- FutureGuy, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1That takes care of one of the top 10 reasons why the world is going to end on December 21, 2012 as per on of the email I received on that matter.

- Navicerts, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Well you won't have to wait long for CERN's LHC to create a black hole! First test with colliding particles is set for October 10th 2008. I'll be in France at the time; I hope I can get a front row seat.
- Gimjee, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1I'd say trying to save lives and humanity is something we can affect... Maybe not to the extent we want, but it's not impossible. This is a real problem, and everyone just over looks it like it's nothing.
- Navicerts, on 08/28/2008, -2/+3As opposed to a volcanic eruption at some other given point in time?
- AltF3, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Buy duct tape and plastic sheets. It'll stop the pyroclastic flow.
- its2uraps, on 08/30/2008, -0/+0Could this volcano be used in a terror attack against the US. I mean if very explosive bomb could be used to trigger a reaction inside the caldera resulting in an eruption.

- londubh, on 08/28/2008, -3/+2They are trying to lull us into a false sense of security, so when it does explode and bury half the US in ash Bush can say "No one expected the volcano to explode."
- SheikYabooty, on 08/28/2008, -5/+3Dugg for the black hole created by LHC.... god damn that's scary.
- shadowman99, on 08/28/2008, -7/+2Only 87 diggs and three comments and this is on the front page.
There's more than 10 pages in "Upcoming" with more activity than this.
