- stephenhacking, on 07/17/2008, -5/+88Now thats not helping the idea of reducing overpopulation now is it?
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -4/+48Utter crap.
"Scientists" predicted all kinds of ***** that was overdue decades ago. - xrisnothing, on 07/17/2008, -4/+41It's possible that a few selfish ***** will do this, but hopefully it won't be cheap or popular. I say selfish *****, because that's the only term I can use to describe a person who'd give birth to a child when she's on death's doorstep.
- YancyFryJr, on 07/17/2008, -1/+37As cool as this sounds, I would much rather have these resources put towards Aubrey de Grey's work:

I'd like to live to a healthy 100 before I even think about reproducing at that age! - umbrellainabin, on 07/17/2008, -1/+30Am i the only one seeing an issue with TOO MANY FREAKIN PEOPLE. Sure its cool that you can cure infertility and thats not what im on about. theres almost 7 billion people in the world and it is said that the world's total capacity of habitable hand is only 10 billion. imagine how long it would take to reach that if everyone could have kids.
nice idea but isn't practical. - Jenadae, on 07/17/2008, -1/+27Yay just what we need more people in the world...
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+26I have to say it sounds bad: having a baby is not a task that ends with giving birth, you need full strength, health and forces which I doubt you can maintain until 100+.
- cambob76, on 07/18/2008, -0/+17Insta-orphan. Great idea people.
- slowmo, on 07/17/2008, -0/+15Just in case you've never heard of a "skin tear"; as we humans age, our skin loses it's "turgidity", or elasticity. It is not unusual that the elderly accidentally tear their skin. Now keep that in mind when you imagine the rapidly expanding uterus of a pregnant woman. It is possible, both, that the elderly simply lack the turgidity to facilitate a pregnancy resulting in something resembling Aliens, the movie or that the skin may never reabsorb into the body in postnatal months.
- Noodleson, on 07/17/2008, -1/+16this great news for all the 70 year old female diggers out there
- Josky, on 07/18/2008, -0/+15Yeah... but who will get them pregnant?
- masterm1nd, on 07/18/2008, -1/+13You didn't purchase one.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10It has to be said... But this is more about the fertility industry exploiting women who want babies than it is about the women. See the fertility industry wants women to think they can wait until they are old to have a baby but the reality is, the fertility clinics have a piss poor success rate, and their success rapidly declines after women pass the age of thirty five. So they float stories like this around in the media, so that women think they can wait a few more years to have a baby.
It has to be said... Urologists do the same thing to men with claims of reversible vasectomies and associated procedures, when the success rate for these procedures is something like 10%... - dcpar, on 07/18/2008, -0/+10Like I needed another reason NOT to ***** a 100-year-old woman, but getting her pregnant is lower down on the list than others i can think of.
... like her Polident not holding up during BJs - fluidfoundation, on 07/17/2008, -2/+11I think we're missing the big problem here... that means someone more than likely will be having sex with a 99/100 year old. ewwwwwwwwwww.
- bjornski, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Odds are something like this would be a tubal pregnancy.
But thanks so much for putting that image in my head.
I hate you. I really do. - Somnambulism, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8Patton Oswalt on elderly childbirth.
"Sometimes science is ***** wrong and gives us ***** we don't need...they might as well go, 'Hey, we made cancer airborne and contagious! You're welcome! We're science: we're all about coulda, not shoulda.'"
Crappy youtube link since it was all I could find.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN8xIkZz0ag - fatjoe, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7Who exactly at age 100 is thinking dam I'd love to have kid or two right about now
- musha, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7that wouldn't be really great on the child.. his mom will die in what... less than 10 years after hes born?
also knowing you were made from skin cells is a bummer. - DB365, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Why?
- moregold, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Baloney! In 3 decades (30 years) women in their '100s' will be fertile. The oldest woman to give birth a few years ago was mid 60s. So in order for 30 years from now, 'fertile' woman that are currently at least 70 would have to remain 'fertile' until they are 100, without the 'infertility' treatments in the mean time. Even if they are claiming conception for glorified clones, todays 70 years olds will have to maintain their uteruses for the next 30 years.
Sorry, but this whole story is some twisted propaganda for unnatural and unneeded medical procedures. The earth is already overpopulated, we don't need cybernetic 100 year old clone baking ovens... - firebhaal, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6I don't envy that doctor
- imapluralist, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6This is one of those articles that Diggers digg because it's a crappy idea.
- Sluglas, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5Sounds like a pretty bad idea.
- MiniCooper2007, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5Ew.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6Scientists also predicted that we'd have flying cars and live in apartments in the sky by 2000.
- riptor666, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5Women should have children from their late 20's to early 30's so they will actually live through their child's life. Nature has already decided this and it works simply. If 50 year old women let alone 100 year old women who have children society is gonna have a lot of motherless children out there. Menopause is natures way of ensuring a woman to have a child within an appropriate age. Besides there are way too many people in the world and we don't need an exponential growth.
- smitas, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5Isn't it enough without this for population and pollution problems?
- fknrat, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5Gross.
- ShadowFoxxx, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5What women would want to go into hours-long labor, given that the pain medication might be too strong for someone that age, go through the strain of contractions and the actual birthing - if I don't want to have children NOW, at age 100...? ....NO.
- KingGorilla, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I think we should refocus on the gay pile
- limoo, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Heck, if they all look like Helen Mirren at that age, I'd do it for free.
- masterm1nd, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Most estimates say can support double the current population. The problem is, in the countries that can support more people the people aren't reproducing. In the places that can't support the people they already have, the people reproduce like crazy.
- Airloss, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Id do it, for 50 bucks.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Ahh so that is their next trick.. babies out of the sleeves of wizards.
- Haoie, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Right now it's risky at less than half that age, childbirth.
If this were possible [big if there], it might profoundly change society. - Dundasbro, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3If you live to 180+ or something then it suddenly seems like a better idea.
- dvsbastard, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I see they have found a way to eradicate responsible parenting too...
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5Yeah, where's my jetpack?
- Bleahdom, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3One who's husband is in their twenties.
- anthonymcg, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Yes but who's going to want to shag a 100 year old woman?
- Lateralis1, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I thought the woman giving birth at 60 was weird. They'd be 80 by the time their kid graduates.
- xerexes1, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Highly doubtful, especially as no one predicted the current high rates of infertility in people 20-40 years of age. Besides, if you really wanted a child, I seriously doubt one would wait 100 years to have a baby.
- orlyfactor, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Don't forget long-winded posts.
- MechaFalcon, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3That man has an incredible beard.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Yes there are. They can WORK. You do not have to waste money on PENSIONS. And then you can go and TAX them some MORE.
- gilbert42989, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2that gave me bad images in my mind. thankyou for that.
- socivitus, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3I feel bad for the poor doctors who have to help through those birth processes.
- Powermac, on 07/18/2008, -2/+4In the words of Patton Oswalt...
UGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
Science just does ***** we don't need...
"HEY! We just made cancer airborne and contagious! We're SCIENCE! You're welcome." - chase001, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3That would be great but it would never happen as there aren't much profits in a healthy population.
