- suckanucka, on 06/12/2008, -7/+69If I already have brain cancer, which phone should I use for radiation treatment?
- WVUChrisF, on 06/12/2008, -12/+6333 diggs to make the front page? Strange.
Direct link to the data instead of the blog spam: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6602_7-5020355-1.html ... - Fordi, on 06/12/2008, -2/+42I'll put it this way:
My phone has a 3.7v, 850mAH battery. That's a sum of 3.145 watthours.
I can talk continuously on this phone for about an hour and a half. That means, ignoring losses due to the phone's other components and 100% battery efficiency, the maximum possible output for the phone is about 2 watts.
Assuming the point source of this radiation is about 1cm from my head, that means that not only am I getting less than half of it, the bulk of it is spread over an area of about 40 cm^2 by the time my head has anything to do with it - a radiological impact of about 0.05 watts / cm^2.
Cell phone radiation is in the frequency range of 800-2600MHz
Organic tissue absorbs less than 1% of radio waves in the 800-2.6GHz range. In all, your radiological absorbtion is pretty low: only about 0.0005 watts per square centimeter.
In short: no you're not going to hurt yourself with a cellphone. You get more exposure - by a couple orders of magnitude - from cosmic rays from going outside on a sunny day. - wontstoptalking, on 06/12/2008, -2/+27Wait, you do not need radiation treatment. I think curing brain cancer is something they added to the iPhone 3G. So just get that.
- nickert0n, on 06/12/2008, -1/+20Good thing.
- Ramble, on 06/12/2008, -0/+15If you shielded your phone you'd get no signal.
- thebza451, on 06/12/2008, -1/+15wow.. that was amazing (not being sarcastic!)
- Ramble, on 06/12/2008, -2/+16I'm staring at my screen, not my computer.
- petrograd, on 06/12/2008, -6/+19"Gentlemen, practice these words in front of the mirror: Although we are constantly exploring the subject, currently there is no direct evidence that links cell phone usage to brain cancer"

- jwprox, on 06/12/2008, -11/+21All I know is that before I used cellphones I only had 2 testicles.
- mrmacky, on 06/12/2008, -1/+11I'm confused, doesn't it say that to pass FCC certification it must be less than 1.6?
Last time I checked the FCC is very specific in their wording, and 1.6 is not /less/ than 1.6... so is that rounded up from a much safer 1.59? - inactive, on 06/12/2008, -0/+9Yep, one of the few reasons why I keep coming to digg is for eventual "really smart" comments like this.
- chuckDontSurf, on 06/12/2008, -3/+12I have a flat panel, jackass.
- suckanucka, on 06/12/2008, -4/+13Thats racist.
- Fordi, on 06/12/2008, -0/+9Even the study strikes me as kind of stupid; given battery capacity and talk time per charge, you can figure out the absolute maximum output a phone can have; mine is around 2 Watts (over an hour and a half).
I'm sorry, but you can not hurt yourself with 2 watts, no matter how long you hold the phone to your head. Maybe if it were a point source, embeeded *in* your head, you may be able to damage *a* cell - but not much else. - nruegger, on 06/12/2008, -1/+10What would YOU do for a Klondike bar?
- Alethinos, on 06/12/2008, -0/+8Did you just troll about trolls?
This is not 4chan. - meruru, on 06/12/2008, -4/+12No, actually if it's not dangerous then it doesn't matter
- bgrah449, on 06/12/2008, -0/+7Dude, get a life. Digg them down like the rest of us and let it go.
- djdole, on 06/12/2008, -0/+6Contrary to popular belief, microwaves cook from the outside in and really only penetrate at most half an inch into flesh, (and cook by exciting the water molecules in the food) the rest is conductive heating via the heated water.
And pretty much all waves below x-ray have a VERY hard time penetrating bone. (So skull = no brain tumors) If the hysteria was true then LIFE itself wouldn't be able to exist.
But whether or not microwaves can penetrate the skin is a moot point.
It's the damage to dna & rna that causes tumors, and radio waves at and below the visible spectrum are just TOO LONG to cause the type of damage required to cause a tumor. - ChromaVita, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5I have a flat panel. And it's a laptop. And it's silver. And it has a big white apple on the front. And I'm better than you as a person because of it.
- nickert0n, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5Thats obvious.
- nickert0n, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5I loathe internet shat piles like you.
- seanmc303, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5That's weird because any time I put a piece of meat in the microwave it seems to be effected by the microwave, and yes; I cook all of my meat products in the microwave because I have no cooking skills. Perhaps human flesh has a special magical defense against microwaves.
- ErikHarrison, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5ball cancer
- ravage86, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4More radiation is a good thing. Maybe this explains why my iPhone gets ***** reception in some areas. Don't be afraid of something just because they call it "radiation"... our cell phones are supposed to radiate radio waves, the more the better.
- Dimbleby, on 06/12/2008, -3/+7Makes you look like a douche! ;)
- Pic0, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5radio waves pass through your body all day, there is nothing to worry about them
don't be retarded and believe that popcorn ***** - smspence, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4Actually, Motorola is an American company. Check the link below, and look at the timeline starting at the year 1930:
http://www.motorola.com/content.jsp?globalObjectId ...
Where in the hell did you ever hear that Motorola is a Japanese company? Congratulations wontstoptalking, you win the award for most ignorant hate-monger of the day. - hokie47, on 06/12/2008, -7/+11I keep my cell phone in my pocket all day. Meaning that my cell phone is just a few inches from my balls for over 12 hours each day. ***** the fact that my occasional drinking and cigar smoking is much more likely to harm me, because my balls are top priority over everything else.
- Fordi, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3Heh. Yeah, math is awesome once you find the practical uses for it.
- BenKenobi88, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Wow, there's some real douches burying everyone who doesn't automatically agree that cell phones are that bad.
- diggopolous, on 06/12/2008, -3/+6OK, I'll replace my current mantra from Big Tobacco's Senate Hearings:
"Nicotine is not addicting and pose no health Risk" - 9bpm9, on 06/12/2008, -2/+5Microwaves are harmful to humans, as only if you were an idiot would you stay in the same room as the microwave when you turned it on back in the times where they weren't sealed as tightly as they are today.
- bacon_skoda, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3I would eat a Klondike Bar.
- GRTWHT, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3I don't think so.
I was wondering why digg has completely gone to ***** in the last week or so (random burying of every comment on a post, huge diggs for irrelevant, stupid comments and a general ***** running rampant), when it suddently dawned on me that many US schools just let out for the summer.... - brkhobowriter, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4You also need the video conferencing accessory for the cure to be activated.
- Bloodybathwater, on 06/12/2008, -2/+5Racist?
Black humor has NOTHING to do with black people.
"Black comedy, also known as black humour or dark comedy, is a sub-genre of comedy and satire where topics and events that are usually treated seriously (death, mass murder, suicide, domestic violence, disease, insanity, fear, drug abuse, rape, war, terrorism, etc.) are treated in a humorous or satirical manner."

Yet right wingers and theists think I'm a babbling idiot. Go fig. - TheWindBlows, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Until you start getting tumors from talking on it.
- Fordi, on 06/12/2008, -1/+3I bet you're wrong.
- ChromaVita, on 06/12/2008, -1/+3Yea, good thing japan doesn't have to worry about getting any radiation from using cell phones...
- ace144, on 06/12/2008, -4/+6luckily, my tinfoil hat will screen some of that radiation.
- Typhoon2009, on 06/12/2008, -2/+4I still don't understand the rationale behind a bluetooth headset equating to douchebaggery. They're nothing like popped collars and 'bro' and ***** like that. In fact, I'd imagine a lot of bluetooth headset users to be the opposite of your generic popped-collar guido. Also, one can argue that by displaying your phone to everyone around you (especially if it's an expensive thing like the iPhone), you're just as much of a douche ;)
- Seth024, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Try to find one with a negative W/kg number.
- Bloodybathwater, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2My comment wasn't directed to you, it was directed to the people who actually believed you, and buried him.
- erichw1504, on 06/12/2008, -1/+3kill a man
- Yage2006, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Ok now compare that with the SUN and with TV and radio stations and see how much it does not matter in the real world.
