- Tolzmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'm going to speak for everyone by saying this: Top Gear NEEDS to be broadcasted in the US.
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14well, rockets are still cool
- bloqmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"The cutting edge of cocking about."
I love it. - chapt0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Direct link and longer version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCkOpfLiRcA (short version) 53 seconds. ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It [is|was] broadcast on BBC America, but very edited because of the 'politically incorrect' content, and the Star in a Car section which isn't really relevant to the US. You can get all the (unedited) Top Gear episodes (back to 1989) at www.finalgear.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's nice to see a Mini being put to good use. I wonder how fast the Stig could have gotten it around the test course...

Seriously? That's just so.... weak. I'm curious as to why the BBC feel the need to edit it for showing in the US. Do they not allow free speech on US TV? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No. Uptight Americans who would sue prevent free speech on the TV. Here in the UK, things are tightly controlled, but the British are not trigger-happy. Top Gear even got away with a very good joke about Nazis, the BBC got a lot of written complaints; but they still don't edit it out when it is re-aired.
- Nadinengland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4EDIT: Thanks!
- dkirkham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The new series starts in January
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3But still pretty cool to see again!
- festriaqua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i miss that show... i hope they get back on air soon
- b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sam0n-
-Many people may not have seen it when it was shown
-I saw it when it was shown but still enjoy watching it again
-The article adds more scientific information about the clip, which is quite interesting - mastag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These guys are funtastic :-)
TOP GEAR -- the one and only :-) - Rocketgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because the rocket propulsion supplied was 3 hybrid rocket motors. They had enough complexity of their own with the Nitrous Oxide fill systems, and the umbilical disconnects, as well as the Nomex and mylar wrapped ignition systems, without coming up with a method to remotely ignite the motors half way down the ramp.
It really was complex enough. Back in the UK, it seemed straightforward enough, but for those who went to fire the thing out in Norway, it was a pretty complex system. Although nothing compared with what came next :-) - rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The bit Popsci says about gravity is utter *****. The Mini may have 10* the mass of the skiier, but that doesn't mean a damn thing as far as acceleration is concerned. The earlier paragraph mocking the textbook definition of lift is ironic, in retrospect, since they seem to have missed the textbook definition of objects accelerate due to gravity.
- gronkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Classic minis are damn cool.
Most all of them you can have upgraded to modern engines/suspension/etc.
http://superfastminis.com/
They have a practically bolt on upgrade to install modern honda engine/tranny
front clip.
Other places do the same including at least one in Southern CA
I really would love a mini twuck like this one: http://superfastminis.com/son.htm
(with roll cage) Dunno if I would fit though as I am 6'4" or so. - EmancipatedJake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would like one of these with a even bigger hill and maybe I would start the rockets midway down the hill
- Rocketgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's better to come, as anyone who read the recent Top Gear magazine will have seen. The Mini was the first course, the main course is yet to come, and believe me, you won't be disappointed :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2An oldie but goodie. Let's see how long it takes before the indestructable Toyota Hilux episode shows up again.
- Zlatty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1as fun as it is, this was alrady on digg ... :|
- Displace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bizarre choice of music- it was Amon Tobin's "Hokkaido", which appeared on the third Splinter Cell soundtrack. Go figure.
- kill4killin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I love Top Gear...Jeremy is so funny. Great vid of the mini
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1why didn't they give it a little push and let i build up some speed on its own and *then* use the rocket boost to get it going even faster?
- alex32211, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3OLD, but further proof that top gear is the best show evah.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I didn't see it, and I thought it meant an iPod Mini. Stupid me.
- muvment256, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1they already tried it and it failed. For some reason, the US is the only market it didn't work in. i hear they're going to try it again.
its funny that car & driver on tv does just fine (and its so boring with monotone voices that just give you the stats of cars that you knew before the cars were even released) - evilelf2407, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i've been to lake placid on vacation and i watched like kids that were like 12 who were training for the olympics and they would go very very far, it was incredible. and they really were 12 which was even more amazing.
- muvment256, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i wish they'd start releasing the new ones. The hamster seemed recovered and i think they've begun shooting the new season. Can anyone confirm this?
- Ari0N, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3As above, very old video footage but amusing. Feel sorry for the guys that spent all that toime constructing the banner for such an un-impressive result. The banter between the shows presenters if probably what attracts most people to Top Gear - not keen on Clarkson's other releases (solo appearances).
- exBBoi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2OLD!!!
- Sam0n, on 10/12/2007, -23/+8This was shown last year you know
