- largobargo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45I do hot yoga, the hardest part is not getting an erection during class.

And women...all y'all who do yoga know there's another kinda fart that you have to be careful of, especially when doing those sit-up-like poses. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29"Just stick to a moderate 500-calorie workout and you shouldn't pass out."
Dude, I jog for an hour and it burns 300 calories. A 500-cal workout is not "moderate", especially not early in the morning. - JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Duct tape can fix anything.

- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13If you're just looking to burn calories, you can go on the ellipsis machines--20 minutes on a moderately hard level is 250-300 calories.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Heh.. yoga and me don't mix.
But seriously, I'm not sure if I trust the list... I mean, it was all good until I read:
"Assuming you're a morning person, a smart way to lose weight is to work out before breakfast. That's because when you don't give your body carbs, more of the calories you burn will come from fat stores. Just stick to a moderate 500-calorie workout and you shouldn't pass out."
Before I started working out hardcore, I looked into this "fact" and found from a bunch of reliable health sites + a couple trainers that when you workout on an empty stomache, you really are just hurting your muscles. You're not really touching the fat. - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11From the article:
"Before upping your statins, try three unsweetened 1-1/2 tsp. servings of the venerable fiber laxative a day. A study has shown it produces the same drop in LDL as an extra statin, side effect-free."
side effect-free? he did say "fiber laxative" right? i would consider being on the pot an extra few times a day to be a side effect, don't you? - OperatorNo9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I suppose it's from the exercise you are getting from walking from the aspirin to the baby. They really ought to specify how far away the baby should be from the aspirin, though. I think they could avoid a lot of confusion.
- konkushn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I have been neutered, so no problems there.
- TheCasablancan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Instead of shelling out $2,000 for an ergonomic desk chair, try a $1 roll of paper towels."
Yeah, but you'd look really dumb with a giant wad of paper towels on your chair. - davidleeroth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9He probably means Sebastian Bach...

- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Hydrogen Peroxide looks just like water and doesn't have any scent. I don't know what your mom was putting on your, but I seriously doubt it was hydrogen peroxide... most likely alcohol. Hydrogen peroxide shouldn't sting either.

Congratulations - when was the wedding? - BurtDiggler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I wouldn't want to get teabagged...
- wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Actually, the whole thing about flights + leg blood clots is about Deep Vein Thrombosis - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Vein_Thrombosis - and if you've even been on a long international flight, you've heard about it every 30 minutes or so on the screen!
The idea is that if a clot forms in the leg, or other "deep vein" from the immobility associated with air travel (especially for us poor schlubs in coach), that a part of it could break off and travel to your lungs, heart, brain or other vital organ. And then you're screwed. I don't think it's particularly common, but it is an affliction that has been closely associated with being unable to move around. - slowth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Aspirin doesn't really thin out your blood, it just decreases the effectiveness of platelets, which in turn increases the time it takes to form a blood clot.
- gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"You may want to take that laptop off your lap. Portable computers can heat up to 158 degrees inside. After an hour, that can raise the temperature of your testes by 3.6 degrees, nearly twice what it takes to harm fertility"
Using a laptop on my lap while i read that. - krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I did not realize thats what they meant by anal probe.
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So waking up to the dog barking like crazy and the endless drone of grounds maintenance equipment might not be that great?
Who knew? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Diet Coke has caffeine. For people who hate sugar AND caffeine, they also make a caffeine-free Diet Coke, in weird, bronze-coloured cans.
- BurtDiggler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8If it's on the internet its gotta be true!

http://theinternet.org - cosmotic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It does. Caffine-free Diet coke doesnt have caffine. =P
- thepharmacist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The article you cited talks about endogenous hydrogen peroxyde during inflammatory reactions, and its effects on human fibroblasts as a cytotoxic agent. You have to take into consideration the fact that in the timeframe where wound disinfection using exogenous hydrogen peroxyde occurs (which is quite rapidly after the wound is created), fibroblasts are not yet activated. Their activation occurs when the cyto/chemokines released from the inflammatory cells (macrophages, neutrophils) reach them. I'm willing to consider your point, but that article is not readlily applicable to the situation.
And about that heart attack thing, I have yet to read a medical article linking music to decreased heart attack incidence. - MadDogTannen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5calorie-count.com has a bunch of activities and the number of calories that you burn by doing them. My personal favorite: Cleaning a Church burns 204 calories per hour.
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/activity/588.html
Cleaning a Church was also listed under Religious Activities. It just seemed funny to me. - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Apparently, according to the article, high cholesterol could help remedy that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@rasterbator:
You really won't be ***** that much more often, but the fiber does wonders for blowing cholesterol out of your colon. That's why old people and people with high cholesterol are encouraged to eat more fiber. Also, even if you do drop more bombs than usual at first, eventually your body will adjust and you'll be back on schedule. - tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nothing calms me down like some 'Tool'.
- TheCasablancan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5zeeone- "I get headaches from environments that are too hot and sweaty and slippery bodies are a total turn off."
You get headaches when you're hot and you hate sweat...
Have you ever had sex? Slipperiness is great. Sex isn't supposed to be prim, neat, and clean. - tysat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Maybe I should start doing yoga on the weekends.....
- thepharmacist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7About heart attacks: "Your heart attack risk is greatest in the AM" - The heart attack risk is at its peak at 5 AM so unless you wake up really early that's kind of pointless.
About statins: " Before upping your statins, try three unsweetened 1-1/2 tsp. servings of the venerable fiber laxative a day. A study has shown it produces the same drop in LDL as an extra statin, side effect-free". That's because the cholesterol you ate isn't absorbed since it goes out much faster. If you follow a low-cholesterol diet (which you're already supposed to do if you take statins), you won't have any cholesterol to absorb anyway. Besides, taking laxatives if you don't have constipation is dangerous if you have heart problems. Metamucil isn't as bad as some others like Senokot, but still there are side effects to Metamucil and really never take any medication without discussing it first with your pharmacist or doctor.
About aspirin: "Starting 48 hours before your next long flight, take a baby aspirin each day. It'll thin your blood just enough to prevent clots from forming in your legs." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!! This is so dumb and dangerous the guy who wrote that should be arrested. If you have any kind of disease related to your heart or your blood, never, and I repeat NEVER take aspirin without discussing it first with your doctor or your pharmacist. Aspirin is NOT appropriate for a lot of people and it should never be considered a "harmless" drug. Standing up and walking a little bit every hour or so is a much better and much safer way to prevent clots from forming.
About water: "Guzzle -- don't sip -- water: Downing big gulps cues your body to get it into the system faster." This is bull***t.
About hydrogen peroxyde: "Don't use hydrogen peroxide to clean a wound. Those bubbles are caused by a chemical reaction that kills important cells you need to heal. Instead, just opt for soap and water." Humm.... Peroxyde doesn't really kill those cells, but it's true that peroxyde is a poor wound disinfectant. - node3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@ssanders
If you have an empty stomach, and you've used up all the leftover carbs in your blood (after a night's sleep), where is the energy going to come from for the work out? Answer: fat stores. The energy has to come from somewhere, your body doesn't work on credit.
As for hurting your muscles, I can't say. As long as you eat some protein for breakfast I'd imagine that should be ok, but I'm just going on reason here, and not medical knowledge. It seems to me that if you need to lose fat, exercise on an empty stomach in the morning. If you want to get physically fit, exercise like your trainers suggest. While it's probably ideal to skip the lose weight part, doing so would leave you fat for much longer, which: a. is not what you want, and b. makes exercising harder (decreasing the likelihood you'll stick with it).
Just my 2 cents. I really don't think the point you bring up is enough to dismiss the entire list. - sogracefully, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5is that 5am greenwich mean time, or what?
- BurtDiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is everyone here a doctor? If you don't buy the medical advice from the men's health magazine, there is no chance in hell you're going to listen to suggestions from a bunch of Diggers.
Did you know that people are 65% more likely to believe something that is presented as a percentage? - tony23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Peroxide can sting, depending on the wound.
As for the "fact" being reported - it seems that it goes back to a report on the use of Peroxide as a debriding agent - "Potter and Perry, 1993" - but not a lot of luck finding the actual article.
OTOH, WebMD recommends it. Barring any further proof, I think I'll trust WebMD over Men's Journal for medical advice... - bedrock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm sure "ivillage.co.uk" is an omniscient being (taking the form of a website) that knows everything about your health...
They didn't even disprove it, they just said "it hasn't been proven".
Cold water is more satisfying anyways, what's the issue? -
