- DirtPile, on 07/06/2009, -2/+26God, I miss SimAnt.
- strategy, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17I wiki'd the carpenter ant after I saw the picture.
"Its defensive behaviours include self-destruction by autothysis. Two oversized, poison-filled mandibular glands run the entire length of the ant's body. When combat takes a turn for the worse, the ant violently contracts its abdominal muscles to rupture its body and spray poison in all directions."

***** zerg. - Brizzyce, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17Maybe I'm just greedy, but I was sort of hoping for even more close-up, high res pics. Still cool though.
- Akairenn, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17I would pay up to and including $100 for a modern SimAnt.
Come on, Maxis, knock it off with 'The Sims'. Oh and bring back Sim Tower, k thx. - stinkybinky, on 07/06/2009, -3/+15KILL IT WITH MAGNIFIED SUNLIGHT!!!
- PityDaFool, on 07/06/2009, -3/+13They looked insanely scary, until I remembered I could smash them with my pinky.
- InvaderDem, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9Dugg for mentioning Sim Tower.
- MNorton17, on 07/06/2009, -3/+9I like looking at PICS of ants.
- DaryLintheDark, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5seeing pictures of ants always makes me want to see "Honey I Shrunk the Kids"
'ants can carry 50 times their weight'
'50 TIMES!!! that's like bench-pressing a bulldozer!!!!" - PhillyOC, on 07/06/2009, -1/+6Beautiful creatures. I wish the pics were larger so I could see some more detail.
- JFallon126, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4If you like this sort of thing I highly recommend the BBC documentary "Life in the Undergrowth". Imagine Planet Earth but focused on insects.
- Strongo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3I LIVE FOR THE SWARM
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3In before some little girl says "kill it with fire"
- Sil369, on 07/06/2009, -2/+5these PICS are awesome
- Rukusx7, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Ants are badass.
- OrangeBob, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2They should have had Star Trek battle music playing for the one labeled, "Honeypot ants engage in ritualized battle."
- npk9, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Where's my Saifu???
- durnit, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2http://alwayshadants.ytmnd.com/
- evil-doer, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2kind of cool pics, but on your average 1080p monitor that most people buy nowadays these pictures are the size of postage stamps. pretty hard to see much detail. the ants were the size of.. ants..
- novenator, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Very cool macro photos.
- rabs, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3yeah, if you weigh like 60 pounds, idiot
- OrangeBob, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building?
- Tarokun, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Ladies and gentlemen, uh, we've just lost the picture, but what we've seen speaks for itself. The Corvair spacecraft has apparently been taken over — 'conquered' if you will — by a master race of giant space ants. It's difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive earth men or merely enslave them. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

[Overlord noises here] - Expl0siv0, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I love how people look back at Abraham Lincoln and try to point him out as one thing or another.
The man had a lot of dimensions and none of us know for sure who he really was. To me it seems like Lincoln was conflicted with morals and politics and he did his best to serve the people of the US. - Cheehos, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Macroooooo!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheehos/3614012165/in ... - whorunbartertwn, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1We were in Panama recently and came across a column of army ants while hiking, coolest thing ever. I could have watched them for hours, but wife was with me.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2It's not like they have a low mortality rate. The species fulfills its purpose overall by surviving, but the individuals are ***** at most of the things they need to do.
- Sil369, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1no pics...boo

- Sil369, on 07/06/2009, -2/+3dugg for bringing up bacon on an ant page
- RatatRatR, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the tip. Sounds irresistibly creepy.
- joshefosho, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Even though those are really cool pictures, every summer my house gets invaded by ants from every crack in my house. I HATE THEM.
- RobotBuddha, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I can't think of any way to make a better show than combine ants with planet earth. Thanks!

- RobotBuddha, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1He was also a giant ant.
- Chunken, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1A couple billion of these suckers living under my house. I was trying to think of a use for them since they insist on sharing my house and they refuse to pay rent. So I decided to leave some dishes on the counter hoping they would get the hint. I checked back 3 days later and to my surprise the dishes were clean! They aren't such horrible guests after all.

- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1Well, 190Lbs * 50 = 9500 (Just shy of 5 tons)
Small dump truck could be about 9500lbs, unloaded.
What does a bulldozer weigh? About 20,000 - 35,000 Lbs, Idiot. /s - hardtoconfuse, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1Its absolutely amazing how something as big as a centimeter is equipped with all the instinct and intelligence it needs to fulfill its purpose. Why do more complex organisms even need to exist?
- anthropodeus, on 07/06/2009, -2/+2Those!*
