- amprather, on 04/03/2009, -0/+17So you can fix a broken heart?
- costumemaker, on 04/03/2009, -0/+6Why would anyone think this is impossible? The heart gets bigger as you grow.
- BigManOnCampus, on 04/03/2009, -1/+6Wouldn't this mean that heart cancer is possible? yuck
- Ecochick, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5That's good to know as I have some heart disease in my family. Hopefully by the time I'm old I can just grow a new one!
- deema1, on 04/03/2009, -0/+4Holy crap! You scared me! Don't surprise me like that!
- LonesomeFighter, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3i suppose one could digg and view later when they got more time...
- chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Exactly what I was thinking, if your heart starts out the size of a golf ball and grows to the size of your fist don't you think it'd have to create new cells?
- priegog, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3It is in fact possible, altho it's VERY rare.
I think this is great news, it just means there is probably a molecule out there that can speed up that process. - solecize, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3lots of things get bigger by stretching, swelling, engorging, etc. without additional cell growth- penises for example.
- sockpuppets, on 04/03/2009, -2/+4* Ann Coulter excluded.
- frontaxle, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Of course. Remember the Grinch's? Broke the XRay.
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+265 diggs and 44 views! Way to go... Good article for those with happy clicky fingers.
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2This is truly amazing. We are truly just scratching the surface with our knowledge of science
- BigManOnCampus, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Brain cells do grow after birth.
- dazparkour, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2It says ADULT hearts - implying it stops after you are fully grown, like a lot of body parts.
- bakajojo, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1The biggest news here was that the heart does in fact contain stem cells.
- daze144, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1yeah heart cancer isn't just "possible" its already known to occur, very rare though =p.
I think the drummer from kiss died from heart cancer. - agiraffe, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1Aren't cells constantly dying and being replaced in our body? Why would this apply to the rest of our body but not our hearts?
- JeffLongoria, on 04/03/2009, -1/+2Lol +1
- Julian88888888, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1long distance running would be a dead sport if you couldn't grow new heart cells haha
- idavidtang, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1But what if I'm heartless?
- bengringo, on 04/11/2009, -0/+1Thats what....she...said?
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1That is always a possibility.
- Coottie, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1How is this new? Doctors have known for years that when a heart artery has a blockage, the body will make bypass arteries around the blockage. Arteries are made of cells aren't they?
What am I missing....besides all of the money I could be saving by switching to Geico. - donfrancisco, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1WOW This is An Excellent Breakthrough. Now we need to work on Repairing Our Organs.
- dazzy20034, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1you could be right, i dont really know but arteries are very different from cardiac muscle.
- pip182, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1I like to think my brain is a little larger than a baby's....
- kd1s, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1I'm constantly astounded by our ignorance of the human body. Studies like this along with the theories espoused by people like Aubrey De Gray give me great hope for the future of medicine and mankind.
We've been emerging from the dark ages of medicine for the last 50 years. Our emergency medicine is top notch, they can pretty much put you back together again at this point. Now the treatment of chronic conditions needs to catch up.
What I'd really love to see is a device like that used in the original Stargate movie. Wouldn't that be awesome. - mwilhelm, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1"________, a wildly ridiculous and commonly-accepted belief is proved wrong."
OhMyScience! - someguy92, on 04/03/2009, -2/+2Why would the opposite have meant that heart cancer isn't possible? Brain cells don't grow after birth, but people still suffer from brain cancer.
- JshMRsn, on 04/03/2009, -1/+1Anyone else read that as "Adolf Hitler Grows New Cells"?
- daze144, on 04/03/2009, -0/+0How many Bad Heart puns are there going to be? wow for ***** sake ppl
- Retromingent, on 04/03/2009, -0/+0Wouldn't matter for Dick Cheney anyway.
- justinjones, on 04/03/2009, -1/+0The human brain grows new cells also... think I read it on digg
