- marix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Thank goodness its not Urelated!
Unrelated however, Thats still to be tested! - piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"(note sea water gets sucked down into the earth, so more water may cause more pressure, hence eqs)"
Fault stress is down to the massive forces which drive plate movements. Water may lubricate faults and cause them to be more likely to slip, causing an earthquake, but I highly doubt the "more water" (bearing in mind most of these subduction related faults are sitting under >4km of ocean) due to global warming has affected their frequency.
If you'd like to reference a paper about how global warming has affected earthquake frequency on the pacific rim I'd love to read it.
I believe/hope unimaxium was being sarcastic ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You've watched one too many Steven Seagal movies.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What's with the terrible spelling errors on frontpage stories nowadays..?

No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible.

- Unimaxium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7It's all because of global warming
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just be glad a big one hasn't hit LA yet.
- celeronxl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Chad: Doesn't change how amazing it is how many people submit digg stories and don't even look at what they wrote, even for a second.
- Unimaxium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"I believe/hope unimaxium was being sarcastic ;)"
Yep ;-) - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6First thing I thought when I saw the title - some idiot(s) is/(are) going to bitch about the spelling and totally ignore the content of the article. Thanks for stepping up to the plate.
- nickwebb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4HAHAHA, that's classic.. Good laugh out of that one.
We all know that Bush only hates Louisiana, with all of his swift hurricane-like might. - nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Only people who already know how to spell and want to make sure that their spelling is correct, even though they know it is.
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The scientists are probably saying that to calm everybody down. Besides, panic and riots only make their rocket escape pods and secret moon base twice as expensive to build.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Not "OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE, IT'S GLOBAL WARMING!!!" ?
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read just after the tsunami that earthquakes like that one can cause shifts in the tectonic plates which can lead to more earthquakes. Scientists said that more strong earthquakes were likely to occur as a direct result of the one that caused the tsunami. How can both be true? How can one quake cause another to happen but yet a string of quakes is unrelated? If you ask me, and I'm not expert, but it makes sense that vibrations from one quake could trigger another or make it occur quicker than it otherwise would have.
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's Global Warming you dorks!
- marix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no, its not
- portis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How many of these "experts" are usually correct? That's right.....
- Sterch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Urelated? Hmmm, maybe Unrelated? Anyone use spell check anymore?
- shogunu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me thinks you might be on to something here...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7George Bush does not like Pacific Islanders
- OropheR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Volcanic activity may be a collateral consequence of the techtonic activity of an area. Volcanic activities are local phenomena (underground) and may have hudge consequences in the atmosphere.
Earthquakes, direct consequence of the continental plates moving, are all linked/related, but we must see the whole picture using a longer time scale, not only a couple of months/years.
ps:i am not a scientist, but I like looking at maps. - Anargeek77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think somebody is testing a very nice Weapon of Mass Destruction....................hmmmmmmmm? possible right?
- shogunu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+02000 year ago (give or take 8 days and caledar shifts) the END OF THE WORLD really WAS NIGH. Thanks god Luke Skywalker was there to save the day for us all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1yeah, because LA is the cultural center of the universe... god forbid some actress spills some bong water onto her cocaine..
- the1theonly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1people are in a rush to get there stories out there and dugg, just in case someone else beats them to the punch.
which leads no time for good ole proof reading. - marix, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7metabolife, Just relax. Everything will go on as it has for millions of years. Quit stressing over ***** you can't control.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Record number of hurricanes, flash floods, higher average temperature than ever in recorded history, and increasing number of earthquakes (note sea water gets sucked down into the earth, so more water may cause more pressure, hence eqs).
I'd say you have a fine point. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4True, global warming is a problem. But does driving carbon-fueled automobiles cause earthquakes? Maybe there are too many PEOPLE in Asia and the world is just balancing itself out. :)
- Ran2004, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1In 8 days the date will be 6/6/06... The end of the world is nigh...
- marix, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2id imagine snowflakes have a tought time feeling anything. Get you POS quotes outta here and share w/ me something you really thought. All by your self i mean.
