What, you couldn't be bothered to read the paragraph directly below the one you are quoting? - Haoie, on 10/07/2008, -5/+69Kind of misleading: When you read a title like that, you think massive destruction, ala Armageddon.

- AmyVernon, on 10/07/2008, -2/+63THE END IS NIGH!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, wait. It's not. - dampeal, on 10/07/2008, -3/+58Quick... Call Bruce Willis!
- ZeroCubed, on 10/07/2008, -2/+50Thank goodness it's tiny. I read the headline and I panicked, thinking "Why the hell isn't this front page and on TV?". Should be headlined "Tiny Meteorite Found on Collision Course with Earth". Of cours, it may not even collide - it might "burn up in the atmosphere". Too bad they can't organize a mission to go see it though - great video documentation of an actual collision! Now THAT'S something I wanna see in an imax!
So, perhaps because they missed this chance, they'll organize a crew for future chances. A crew that at any time could be deployed to document, video tape and photograph collisions. An actual, real collision. None of the computer CGI stuff. - fugeelama, on 10/07/2008, -0/+26Old news, it burned up in the atmosphere over Sudan this morning.
Also, your story is a dupe of a dupe... - HerrWolf, on 10/07/2008, -0/+25Did it destroy the Earth?
- TimmyA, on 10/07/2008, -3/+25It already hit, this morning: http://www.spaceweather.com/
- Renton, on 10/07/2008, -0/+20And if it attaches to your head, its a metroid.
- w00dyt, on 10/07/2008, -1/+18Welcome to digg
- ditster, on 10/07/2008, -0/+16haha, yeah. The titles are meant to be catchy. Would you have read the article if it was, "Insignificant and comparatively small piece of space dirt to enter Earth atmosphere soon".
- whiteknives, on 10/07/2008, -1/+16Predicted for the first time. Meaning this is the first time that we've seen it coming.
- SirWho, on 10/07/2008, -0/+15pffff! ***** it, let's go bowling
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12Great - now I've got an epic mental image of Bruce Willis being flung via catapult.
- brianjlowry, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12I doubt that there is a direct 1:1 correlation with the ability to discover things further out.
- Nidy1, on 10/07/2008, -0/+12You submitted the story hours after it hit Earth...
/facepalm - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13Send a Bruce Willis at it.
- cyrix, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11Meteoroid*
After they hit earth they're meteorites. It becomes a meteor when it's traveling through the atmosphere. The more you know *cues rainbow* - Harabeck, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11I think the title would have had some more caps and exclamation points if it was really armageddon.
- Recidivus, on 10/07/2008, -1/+12Why not just send in some oil rig workers to detonate a nuke just below it's surface? Seems like a flawless plan.
- anagoge, on 10/07/2008, -2/+12I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT A 'ROID AINT ONE
- speedk0re, on 10/07/2008, -1/+10DONT WANNA CLOSEEEE MY EYEEEEEEEES
DONT WANNNNNNNA FALL ASLEEEEEEEEP - BeatPunchbeef, on 10/07/2008, -1/+9Note to self: Do NOT rely on Digg for timely information on major, potentially death-bringing meteorites.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8I hope when its a big one they see it a little earlier and give us a bit more notice.
- ABadPerson, on 10/07/2008, -8/+15EVERYONE PANIC FOR NO REASON!!!!!!!!
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7pffff! screw A.J., send The Dude.
- Recidivus, on 10/07/2008, -2/+8Not misleadingl. It's a rock, in space, heading for Earth. It isn't their fault you're all doom n gloom.
- fluxion, on 10/07/2008, -2/+8tough crowd
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6AAAHHHH!!!!!
- SirFragsMore, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Screw that send Donny.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6I'm thinking a trebuchet... a really, really, big one.
- billbugger, on 10/07/2008, -10/+15Send a small nuke at it.
- Lith25, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5REPTAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
- philosophiste, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6That's why you shouldn't keep your entire species at the bottom of the same gravity well.
- ashwinmudigonda, on 10/07/2008, -2/+6The operative word, my dear Luddites, is "found"
Think. This is the first step towards reaching an almost 100% prediction of all the NEO's orbits. Currently, the number of people working on computing the trajectories of all potential Near Earth Objects can manage a shift at McD's. Economy schmeconomy. This is like a foreclosure notice to the whole planet. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4There have been two people say this before you. You must read every comment before commenting.... EVERY COMMENT! READ!
- adamroach, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4No.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -9/+13Are people not on edge enough with the economy that you need to post this sensationalized description?
- adamroach, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Could the title be a little more dramatic?
- Alli3388, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Oh good. Now if a giant asteroid is going to hit Earth and kill us all, we'll know a day before it happens. :-S
- odigity, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I saw this Digg article. First thing I did was read the article (imagine that), and noticed that according to the article, it would hit Tuesday morning. I then noticed this article was posted to Digg... Tuesday afternoon. After the damn thing already hit.
Next, I started scrolling down the comments looking to see if anyone had noticed this very obvious fact. Three pages down, you sir, get the prize.
For *****'s sake... the story was over before it was posted. The Digg headline should have been "tiny meteorite hit around Sudan this morning, doing nothing special". - the2989, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4This rock already hit, where's the footage?
- HerrWolf, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4And we'll read about it on Digg a few hours after the impact...
- nikedude, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I for one am glad we got like 3 hours of advanced notice
- expert01, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Don't they predict meteor showers all the time?
- shutaro, on 10/07/2008, -5/+8DOOM! Send Bruce Willis!
- angrycat, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4They don't have video cameras in Sudan.
- godofallcows, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3I bet it will collide with the Hadron and both will team up with the killer bees from mexico and y2k and kill us all in a huge blackhole/crater/stinging/computer orgy.
- BossKey, on 10/07/2008, -4/+7Old. Space rock hit the Earth in the 1970s, and I have the Yes albums to prove it.
